Official Playa Del Carmen Thread

Bump mostly to say I really didn't like playa. City is fake as ****, idk how you live there long term. Fine for a few days to go hard on tourist **** and that is about it. Do not recommend.

Also the taxi mafia there is no joke. Sucks no Uber, indriver, didi etc there except for delivery.

I stayed there a few months during post pandemic times.The city is ugly and 5th ave isnÂ’t great, but living a few blocks off 5th and having a bicycle was perfectly adequate for my needs, as itÂ’s a pretty compact city. Also thereÂ’s some decent more local restaurants away from 5th. ThereÂ’s lots of activities to take part in if youÂ’d like, volleyball, pickleball, yoga, scuba diving, etc. Mostly westerners and lots of retired or semiretired boomers though. And then of course thereÂ’s lots of good day trips for cenotes, ruins, Cozumel. So all in all, I had a nice time there, even if itÂ’s a more westernized, overpriced version of Mexico. Much cheaper and better for my physical +mental health than being in the US.

they got did outside of china?

Yeah the China app is a different version than the non China app though. Tried to get delivery with it in playa and the driver must have been new as they were going to run out of battery so they couldn't compete the order and didn't know how to cancel it. 😡

Thanks for your perspective. I spent pretty much no time on fifth while I was there and did find a few decent restaurants and the cenotes etc in the area were cool. Just didn't like the vibe in that area as much as I did literally anywhere else I've been in Mexico.

I feel exactly the same you do in regards to Playa del Carmen : fun for a couple of days, but it gets old pretty fast!!! I also prefer more cultural experiences, then partying and whatnot, but for your standard poker population that goes to live in Carmen for a few months/years, they are obviously seeking other thrills and oftentimes in their 20s, so to each their own

That area went the same way as many other places, Ibiza, Goa, Koh Phangan, Sihanoukville etc. They were great a long time ago, then too many people found out about it, and that included naturally too many of the wrong people, and they ruined it for everyone
