What's the rake at the first round of commercial rooms upstate?

Is it not set by the state like in NJ?

Rivers Schenectady, Resorts World Catskills, and Turning Stone all have different rake (Rivers having a particularly unique staggered structure). Plus I haven’t seen any language that suggest uniform rake across the stake.

I just can’t imagine , particularly from MGM, they don’t go with very high rake, for all the same reasons we’re excited for the rooms. High traffic rooms in one of the wealthiest areas in the world with some of the wealthiest tourists and business travelers in the world

Way back when over 700 posts ago I took the over on all the estimates. Someone else suggested 2025. I agreed that was as earliest would happen. Wheels turn incredibly slow in NYC.

The problem is, we don't really have a choice. If you think the rake is bad at Encore, let me take you to an underground room in NYC. $20 is low.

If by " Shae" you mean Citi Field this isn't true at all. I've gone to Mets games where I park a 10-15 min walk away in residential neighborhood without going near a highway.

Rake will definitely be high.

But think about the effective rake NYers are paying now in gas tolls and hotel rooms to play poker.

there's an underground club 10 min away from me where they rake $30+$5 per hand from $1/$3NL and $5 button PLO game

the place is packed every night with sometimes 3 tables going on

the rake will probably be the highest in the country and no one will care

Honestly if the rake is anywhere between $6 - $10(not counting bonus rake), I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

Feel that unlike Encore Boston there will be competition so wouldn't be massively surprised if it wasn't $10+.

In Chicagoland there are a few rooms and the highest is actually the one furthest from the city (GVC - $7+1, maybe $7+2).

And i agree if its the highest in the country nobody will care. Might have to play higher stakes to make it more worth the while

NY has machines that aren't even legal in most states and a sky high gambling tax. Id be shocked if rake is less than 10 a hand.

Raises another question, what stakes will time start at and what will time be? If rake is 10% with $10+ cap, who’s to say they won’t make 5/10 a rake game, or make time $20/hh?

up to $30 but in these games hardly anyone folds so at least in case of PLO it's a max rake just about every hand

One of the agenda items is revising the RFA adding dates to the timeline:
• applications due 6/30/25
• CAC deadline 9/30/25
• recommendations to commission 12/1/25
• "Commission licensure consideration" 12/31/25

I guess that means Hochul has signed, or they're assuming she will. Or they just want the appearance that they're doing something. There doesn't appear to be anything about answering the second round of questions that they've been sitting on for eight months.

What a joke this state is. Only 18 months away from considering giving someone a license, then another year or two for an official opening/re-opening. Can we just assume at least by 2030 there might be table games in down state NY (and hope it includes poker)?

I’m still holding out hope that cards can hit the air summer 2026, and that it’s a near lock at least RW has poker. I have no logical defense for my hope.

Also holding out maybe panic about delayed/lost revenue from congestion pricing pushes this and the online process along but you know, probably not lol

The eventual licensees will be required (by the authorizing law) to begin gaming operations within two years of licensing. Which I imagine will be problematic for all of the bids that involve building something from scratch. (And doubly so for the Wynn proposal, which would stand on a deck over the rail yards that doesn't exist yet.)

Can they do something like what Bally's has done in Chicago and set up a "temporary casino" while the full one is being built? Would that work as a loophole here?

I'd guess they would have to. It just says they have to begin operations, not that construction has to be finished. Otherwise they'd have to get the legislature to pass an extension. And why not get some money coming in sooner rather than later.
