New York City Area Hype Discussion
Did a quick check but apologies if this already exists, also might be a little premature either way but- given the movement towards online sports betting getting the nod, and the prospect of downstate casinos looming on the horizon would it make sense to create this thread for news on these potential future games?
What prompted me to make thread is the Ignition move out of NY- does this mean licensed regulated sites are on the way sooner rather than later?
They expect to award licenses by the end of the year, then we would still be a couple years away from an opening, even though NYC is the biggest betting market in the country (if only it was run by people who realized this).
So assuming the one that opens has a poker room, that would make it a 7 year hype thread which should be a record.

If RW and/or EC get the license it wouldn’t necessarily be years until they open, unless they have to make the actual infrastructure investments before opening?

Isn’t there a required large capital investment as part of getting a license?
Any infrastructure changes will be structured to get slots up first, then tables with poker a much lagging third. IOW, poker would be the last thing added to e siting facilities.
New facilities would likely open with poker, if they intend to have it, but these would likely be two yrs from license grant to finslmfacility opening. Now might have a temp facility but that might not have poker.
Imo this process is not almost over. Lots of hurdles that will slow things down. Those who don’t want it are going to lose but they can keep fighting.

I’m not positive they have to complete the capital investment upgrades before opening though. Could definitely be wrong but I can imagine RW/EC getting the license and being able to open while construction on the overall resorts are still under way.
I also understand the conventional wisdom that poker is an after thought, but a big part of the possibility of no poker is usually a conversation about space, which isn’t an issue at any of the proposals. They’re all basically slated to be among the biggest in the country if they get green lighted .
Your last point is my biggest concern, general corruption and communities (justifiably) dragging their feet.
Still hopelessly optimistic cards hit the felt next summer

My point is that sure these will be large casinos but given the costs they have to generate lots of revenue. So while they are expanding the space will be optimized for that. Poker will wind up in the expanded space not the initial space.
