Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX Area Poker

Between Christmas and New Years I wanted to play PLO at TCH Las Colinas, but I never ended up doing it. I watched the games on Poker Atlas, and it was usually 2 tables of 2/2 and 1 or 2 tables of 2/5, but always with a long waiting list (12 to 15 names).

One day I put myself on both lists and showed up about 45 minutes later. There is not a big sign; it looks like they are trying to keep a low profile. I ask the brush and she confirms that I am still about 10th on both lists, and that the people on the lists are mostly real people who will probably take seats, not just people who reserved seats on Poker Atlas and are not actually there.

I was thinking about milling around and watching the games for an hour on the off chance that I did get a seat, but the brush told me I had to buy a membership or leave. I didn't feel like paying for a membership since I probably would not actually get to play, so I left.

You can tell who's on the poker atlas app with the chip logo, I really doubt you would of had to wait long if you signed in 45 minutes before.

The Fort had a 20/40 LHE w/half kill today. They’re expecting it to run every Tuesday. Am I the only one who misses LHE?

I was primarily a Limit O8 player back in the day, but always found 2-card poker kinda boring.

i know this is a long shot, but......

i'm looking for 1 or more players who may be driving to/from WSOP 2024 from texas and wanting to stay around 2 weeks or so. i am driving out there due to fear of flying & medical issues, and need another person(s) to drive with. i (42m) will be staying with a buddy of mine (25m), at horseshoe. we are chill, no partying on the strip, no slots/pits, just focus on poker during trip like real poker junkies. we have gone for a few years now and really enjoy the series, look forward to it every year. we are mostly cash players, with some tournaments mixed in. my friend is flying in. if you want to room with us, that would make it cheaper for everyone (if not, that's cool).

i have made the drive for many years now. it is a 2-day drive, solo, ~10 hours per day. but maybe can make it a super long 1-day drive with myself and one or two more people to split driving. obviously we would need to meet as a group beforehand, make sure we get along, can stand each other for long drive. also, will be using my vehicle (roomy, nice 4-door truck). i will eat most gas expenses, since this would primarily be accommodating me.

right now, looking at May 29-June 12 timeframe. but i can be flexible to adjust to everyone's schedule.

Can anyone drop me some information about TCH Dallas v. TCH Las Colonias? General word I'm hearing is Colonias is in a much nicer neighborhood, but stacks play smaller. I've never been to Texas but we will be there for about 4 days and don't have plans (until I go broke) to do much else.

I'll be in Fort Worth in October. Where should I go to player poker? Driving up to 45 minutes from the convention center is fine.

I typically play $2/$5 or $5/$10. There's no faq in the main post and there's tons of options on Poker Atlas. Any opinions / info would be welcome! Thanks!

The bigger games in Dallas will be at TCH Social. The Fort will be the closest, it’s on the west side of Fort Worth. You’ll pretty much only see 1/3 as the biggest nlhe at the fort but it plays much bigger than a typical 1/3, more like a 2/5 game, maybe even 5/10. I would just keep an eye on those 2 on poker atlas.

What about the places south of Fort Worth - Texas Double Deuce, Poker House Fort Worth, and 5220 Social?

I haven’t been to any of those rooms. They have much less traffic, at least according to Poker Atlas, than the Fort does. The pictures I’ve seen make them look like really nice rooms, but I rarely see more than one table at a time running.

All the 2-5s in Texas play bigger than the average game else where. At Dallas generally one game only, but uncapped. Social has the bigger games and gets plenty of 2-5. I have not played at the 3 smaller rooms you mentioned. The Fort is a fun experience, and definitely different, they got an odd 2/5 game going and that was one of the biggest 2/5s if not biggest I've ever played due to one player. Anyways playing there over 20 hours, there 1/3 is a good size game, but it can't hold a candle to 2/5 at the other locations in terms of size. Games like everywhere vary greatly, but at least you have plenty of selection at Social. I will say the Fort gets ROE 5/5 a decent amount of the time, if you can handle that game I would assume it's good. It's weird how much 2/5 runs and not much above it, just the 2/5 is so big. Have to imagine the 5/10 plus have to be tough games unless private.

I played all three, with the exception of no cash at Dallas. The games play stupid there.

WinStar was garbage. End of story. Bad beat after bad beat and the community/players all are obnoxious.

TCH Social is hands down one of the best poker rooms I've ever set foot into. It's comparable to rake and actually I think it's less than what a rake costs. That place is a decent poker player's dream. The action is absurd, 1/2 plays like 2/5 and 2/5 plays like 5/10+. You will get coolered more than you think but if you get it in good, you'll get paid. Players don't like to fold. With the straddles and what not, it's pretty common to see first action raise to $25 or $30 in the 1/2 game.

Plus, the dealers, players, and general community are all pretty cool. TCH Dallas also hosts some pretty sweet tournaments.

Winstar is soft, you want bad players, this is where the vast majority of your winning will come from. That being said Winstar even their 2 5 plays way smaller then Texas, way more passive, from what I have played.

The Fort's new owner, Wolfgang, is having a meetup game with a bunch of other vloggers on 4/6.

He's in the room quite a bit. I play a day schedule, but the games have definitely got a little splashier and even deeper. Few more grinders showing up and matching stacks are gonna have an effect.

I believe you about obnoxious players. There have always been a good # of obnoxious players at Winstar and throughout the Dallas scene. Most obnoxious player I've ever played with was at Peaks poker room right before it transitioned to Poker House. Won't go into details but pretty sure any legit poker room would have had security on him within 30 seconds of him entering the door. TCH is generally better about handling obnoxious players, although I'll never forget the player who often frequented TCH Dallas (perhaps still does?) that you could smell consistently from 2 tables over. I heard he got kicked out for it sometimes but it was still happening and I'd rather have to deal with the constantly loud obscene and obnoxious guy than that odor.

Unfortunately the 2/5 plays tiny compared to the 2/5 that used to run at TCH Dallas.

Playing against loose passives is more profitable than playing against loose aggressive players. Back in the day Winstar 2/5 was an absolute gold mine with all the loose passives playing there.

Versace got banned from TCH social about 2 weeks ago, be thankful if you never had to play with him, infamous is how I would describe him. Supposedly he's banned at hard rock Tampa as well heard other rumors of other rooms as well.

For whatever little it may or may not contribute to this thread, I have been playing at Winstar for 13 years, and after a few minutes of racking my brain, I can literally only remember one true jerk I've EVER encountered at a table. Only one. Truth be told, I play mostly 4/8LHE, but I do dabble in 1/2 and 1/3 from time to time. I usually have a GREAT time when I go up there to play.

It obviously depends on your definition of obnoxious. Saturday night there were 3 different people at the table who hadn't showered. That's just wrong on so many levels. It was the first time I'd encountered that. There's the occasional player who calls out his entire thought process on every hand, including pointing out that the person who won the pot made a mistake by entering it and got lucky (I encourage those people to clam their traps!!! Most of the time they actually listen.).

I don't want to belabor the point, I'm just stating *my* experience, and I am but one man with but one opinion.

I have a SERIOUS question that I hope people will approach with an open mind. And I promise to consider all answers with an open mind.

What would you say to somebody who is genuinely interested in playing at TCH or any of the other DFW-area cardhouses but is "paranoid" about the legality of it?

I would think that if the powers that be decide to bust them the players would face no consequences. Even when poker rooms were fully underground here, when they were busted the only ones who faced any consequences were dealers and owners. Players are typically just sent on their way. I guess you'd lose whatever your current buy in is, but that's probably it. My opinion is based on heresay though, I've never been at a place that was busted.

No they have ads up in TCH Social and on their website for it. I don't understand how it is legal.

Just àn alert to anyone looking to play in Johnson County. 5220 is now screwing over it's regulars in it's most popular game - dealer's choice. Of course playing this game is at your own risk as there are teams of players who soft play each other and squeeze out newbies. This game has been their bread and butter for the year or so I have lived in Burleson. So what does management do? Make the DC players continue to pay full time while implementing a new special for players who want to play $1/2 NL. You can spend $10 and play all day. (plus the $10 door fee). Meanwhile the DC players continue to pay $13/hr.

They changed management a few months ago (not ownership) and it is poorly run. Tournaments now have shorter blind levels after break (15 minute levels to 10) and they have increased the price of add-ons at the break to $40 for $40,000 or $80 for $80,000. Who wants to stick $125 intp a $1000 guarantee tournament? Not me.

They have maybe one or two good dealers and the rest are complete newbies (including the female floor who somehow passed her TDA test despite not knowing what the one chip rule is. Saw this first hand and just shook my head).

Anyway if you are interested in DC, Double Deuce is gonna be running a game every Tuesday night where the rules will be set and not made up at tge floor or regulars discretion. Hopefully it takes off and 5220 loses business.

Probably way more concerning things to worry about than the legality of it for players if you want to feed your anxiety. It’s been operational in the public for a substantial amount of time so typically situations like this require public notice before action is taken against participants or the police is acting in bad faith/entrapment. You can look at the Houston situation when they tried to close down prime social in Houston if you want to see how it would play out/the process they would usually take if they want to close an established business that is licensed and has been in operation for a substantial time. Texas attorney general has publicly stated multiple times he doesn’t want to rule on the legality of club poker so if a county/city has an issue with a poker room they’ll deal with the business/license side of things not charging players.
