Vancouver, BC
River Rock, Edgewater, Cascades, etc.
Poker room in River Rock is usually busy and my usual choice.
Any Vancouver regulars on 2+2? If there's another thread my bad but I believe it's worth it's own discussion seeing as the games here are always running.
Fav room to play at in BC? Limits?

How are the Parq PLO games? I hear they often spread 3 tables of it now. Some say live PLO now is like NLH 15 years ago when most players knew nothing, every flop was 5-way, tons of action junkies, etc. Is that true?
What you just described is about 8 years out of date too. The games can be beat, but they're generally nothing like that.
damn
Do most of the players know the basics, then, like at the local NLH tables?
Depends what you consider to be "the basics"
At this point 80% or so of the players have been regulars for 5-10 years or more.
You're making comments like you expect to see the plo games of 10 years ago. Not sure why you're so out of the loop. Do you not play? Basic errors are actually something you mostly see at the 1/3nl tables, not at the plo tables. The average amount of poker experience is much higher at the plo tables.
How often do Van casinos have greater than 2/5 nlh games going?
5/10 only at Villa on weekends
RiverRock: No need to go, only 1/3 and room closes at 3am. (24hrs on weekends)
Parq: My favourite casino to go to, Nice place and environment is pleasant. Most people hate the weekends as it’s very noisy because there’s a live band but I personally do not mind it and enjoy the loud energy.
Poker wise, it’s meh. Mostly 1/3 and one 2/5 game only (there’s a must-move for a short time) Games end early and you’ll end up playing 1/3 or drive to Villa.
(PLO at Parq is very fun though! This game runs constantly)
Villa: Reliable place as there are always games and weekends will have a 5/10 running. Usually it’s just 1/3 and couple tables of 2/5. (They recently started Omaha as well)

Thanks! I played at RR like 15-20 years ago and thought it was good, or maybe the best in Van.
I've been to Parq a few times this year after Canucks games. It's always been good.
Never been to Villa. Will need to check it out.
Any mixed games action currently in the Vancouver area casinos?
No. There's NLHE and PLO. Those are your options.
Parq adding 3 more tables for a total of 13 now.
...
Also how is Starlight Casino these days for poker? I used to play there years ago late night when I live closer to there.
Pit & dealers are good. Wait times are incredibly short by Vancouver standards, especially Friday evening through Sunday. Action is decent. High hands are much easier to win due to fewer players.
The room deserves to grow for those reasons. That growth could relieve wait times at other rooms, encouraging more recs to play all over the place. Overall, Starlight has been a good recent-ish addition to the Vancouver poker scene. More players of all types should check it out.
God I can't stand those ****ing tools who talk poker theory and GTO at the table. It is perfectly fine to learn and study of course, but to openly talk about it at a table like that just kills the fun vibe that poker is supposed to have for the recreationals and gamblers.
Maybe that is just me. I am a grinder myself, but in a live game I just prefer to present myself as a recreation who is there to have fun.
soo effing stupid, should be punishable by law, like 3 years or so ;-)))
kills the vibe, kills the action, makes the recs not feel welcome ... 100 reasons
so, read a little through the thread, seems like the reviews of poker in vancouver are kinda mixed ... so my question: whats the best place to play in canada (never been), especially for PLO? thx
Right now, I think PLO is dealt at Grand Villa and Parq only.

Why the $%@# are players are allowed to watch movies while playing online poker while also playing live poker?
These players ruin the social vibes as they're clearly not present nor focused. They lose track of the action and need to be told every few minutes that it's their turn to act - sometimes multiple times in a single hand. There's no way to know if they are communicating with other players at the same table or using poker software to help them make decisions.
And given their split attention, I wonder if they're even enjoying themselves. They're definitely not in a flow state.
Absolutely NOBODY wants to be at a table where 8 or 9 out of the 9 players are doing this. That would be Poker Hell.
But it seems like we're trending towards exactly that.
And the card rooms are just letting it happen.
I get that live poker can be boring when card dead with 3 calling stations on your left.
But if a player cannot tolerate that aspect of poker, they should commit to some other activity and give their seat to someone who really wants to play, someone who won't delay the action 15 times per hour.
CARD ROOMS: PLEASE PROHIBIT EXTENSIVE SCREEN USAGE DURING POKER GAMES.
