The AEW Thread
Kinda surprised that more people are not talking about this here. With the announcement that they will have weekly tv on TNT + the solid roster + the funds + how trash WWE has been, it seems like this is a huge deal for the wrestling world. Are you guys just super jaded with wrestling now, or not really into the potential new company?

All In was phenomenal.
Wasn't the best AEW ppv but AEW has set the bar extremely high for themselves.
Bryan/Swerve was great
MJF/Will was really good. Unfortunately, a very predictable ending
Mariah/Anna was one of the best women's matches AEW's ever had
and **** me, the gauntlet match was one of the best on the card. The pop for Nigel was out of this world. Hearing his old ROH music had me marking before he stepped foot into the arena. I hope he can stay around to actually wrestle but I doubt that's happening. Could've been the best without the flat ending
Yeah, that was a really fun time. Love this ****.
I assume the Nigel return was partially to throw more names into "who can win this match?" and partially to test the waters on if he/management think a match with Danielson can happen.
He looked rusty but not terrible and can still work a crowd so I'm guessing he will be a Danielson opponent on the title run, maybe winning another gauntlet match or battle royal to get his shot since a full time run is probably not in the cards.
I'm not terribly upset with the Christian win but it would've been better without another fake Luchasauras face turn. They'll make the program work, Christian doesn't miss when given the tv time. Probably going to lead to Copelands return as well. Hangman winning would not have worked imo, he needs to go even more unhinged and finish the blood feud with Swerve and they don't need the belt or title shot for that.
Mercedes/Britt and Hook/Jericho were the only low points of the show for me and they were still somewhat entertaining. I rarely watch WWE PPVs live anymore but the AEW method of just going match to match with maybe a short lead-in video is so much better than 15 minutes of Snickers and Peacock commercials between each match.
Attending All Out tonight, really looking forward to it. This is definitely a card for the sickos.
Enjoy! Card looks great. I see 0 guaranteed stinkers like Jericho and the Britt Baker matches at All In.
Enjoy, jish.
Can't wait for Swerve/Hangman. It'll be near impossible but I hope it tops the texas death match.
Osoreay/Pac gonna be all kinds of fun too.
Swerve/Hangman was pretty good but nowhere close to the TDM. The ref spot with the chair was so silly. idk how these guys thought it was a good idea. The needle spot was beyond absurd, stupid, and bad. I think the cage was a bad idea as well. These guys being able to even go to the outside and aisleway was needed.
Ospreay/Pac MOTN for sure. I didn't even feel like they gave everything, either. Looking forward to another match. I think we'll get a Will/Pac/Ricochet 3-way pretty soon too
Statlander/Willow was the women's match of 2024 so far. Just greatness from those two. Not too surprised, either. Kris has been good in no dq matches and Willow's a great underrated worker
Sasha is ****ing god awful and should be fired. Worst match of the night for sure.
Bryan/Jack was just boring, esp for a Bryan match.
Will Mox "retire" Bryan? I don't think so but lots seem to think he will.
First half of All Out: 8.5/10
Second half of All Out: 5/10
Show was very, very good, but lacked that truly great match that might have elevated it over the top AEW shows.
I guess Mercedes is quickly fading into "guaranteed mediocre match" territory. On top of that her entrance got very little pop so seems like the fans are already over her. I hate the piped in C-E-O chants in her entrance and her finisher looks ridiculous and is seemingly never performed well. Even if it were, I don't think it looks particularly cool and is a bad fit for a smaller wrestler anyway.
It was a beautiful night of attempted murder
What the hell happened to her? I'm not imagining things in thinking that she was one of the best women's wrestlers in North America like 7-10 years ago, right? That match was absolutely horrible.
And yeah, if there's a worse finisher in wrestling right now than the Moneymaker, I'd love to see it. I've seen her do that move about a dozen times and it's looked good once. Surely the news that it looks like **** has to have reached her. Isn't there anyone in the back with enough pull to say "Girl, your finisher looks like ass. Please do something else."?
Also, I know that chair wasn't like an old school chair from the late 90s, but I have to question the wisdom of doing completely unprotected chair shots to the head.
Wonder if her ankle isn't 100% healed. Or maybe she's just hesitant with it.
Her ankle is probably sore from how heavy her massive ego is
C! E! O! C! E! O!
For those wondering if Meltzer is still broken, he gave a 4.75 to Danielson/Perry.
Apparently Danielson has only had 10 matches in his career better than that.
My brother snapped this shot. MJF delivering a panama sunrise.
The Jaguars absolutely suck, but Meltzer gave them 5 starts so, Tony doesn't realize it.
New deal with WBD sounds huge. $555million over 3 years with an option for a 4th. Dynamite and Collision will stream live on Max as well as continuing to air on TBS/TNT. PPVs will also be on Max, but AEW retains the rights and revenue. Rampage wasn’t mentioned and it’s assumed they’ll be killing that show off.
Additionally, a brand new show is in the works to air on FOX called Shockwave.
TK has been a busy boy!
Thought I read that PPVs would be an additional fee to watch on MAX
PPVs will be additional fee to watch.
If Tony had kept HoB hot (and heel), they would have been a great choice to come "save" AEW from the BCC.
As much as I liked OC's promo a couple of weeks back more than anything he's ever done, I'm hoping this isn't a vehicle to get him over, but rather a long term storyline where he's just the first victim. Though Tony's history of booking scares me.
Tony always inserts a random person as the first challenger for a newly won world title. I have confidence that OC's just a victim here.
Such a weird dynamic in a number of programs now where the babyfaces outnumber the heels:
Everyone (although all mid-carders) vs The Death Riders
The Bang Bang Gang vs Hangman Page
Undisputed vs MJF (such a convoluted story that I can't buy into)
The Conglomeration (four or five people) vs The Learning Tree
Of course the heels deserve a beatdown, but occasionally creating too much heel sympathy.
Honestly, Full Gear is a great PPV thus far. I’m kinda surprised because it’s been a lackluster build.
