Wrestling OT/LC Thread: We'll Stop Talking About Star Wars Eventually

Since those of us in the wrestling thread have been posting together for long enough that we tend to get derailed from nonstop wrestling talk, a containment thread for everything else seems appropriate. Seems a decent chance for some community overlap with our MMA and boxing friends too.

So...this thread is sort of like a reversal of what OOT was until a couple of weeks ago. The forum is wrestling, the containment thread is OOT. VICTORY!

Have at it.

I couldn’t possibly be getting pushed harder to disown college football as a sport to spend even a second of time on.

What an absolute nightmare.

Gotta give it to the Washington coach though. He did everything he possibly could to lose that game. It's like he didn't know there was a clock.

I didn't watch. The concept of them being at this point is too unpleasant to actually visually engage with. This isn't like the Houston Astros, where I hate them to the core of my soul but still recognize their right to exist. UW used to be the object of my mere sports hate in the way that the Astros are, but it's much deeper now.

Instead of turning on football, I watched Uncut Gems for the first time. In hindsight, it's objectively funny that my strategy for anxiety avoidance was to watch that movie. It's a good movie, but ****.

Still feel this way, but I suppose I can sleep at night since six months of nothing but terrible things happening in college football did not happen to culminate in the very worst possible thing.

**** that sport.

While I think the AFC has the potential to be a bit chaotic this year (especially considering crazy weather the first weekend), I'm finding it hard to see a way out of SF/DAL in the NFC, barring injuries, bad calls and turnovers.

Cleveland/Houston might be a game to watch. The winner of that game might be able to make some noise.

The Steelers are a complete fraud who set some kind of record for winning games where they were out-gained this year and Miami was kind of a fraud before all the injuries, but the extreme weather in both those games could cause some fluky stuff, though it probably favors KC & Buffalo at home overall.

Get to the second round and Josh Allen can win games on his own, he can also lose games he's supposed to win. The Cleveland defense could be particularly troubling for him, though they've struggled on the road. Cleveland defense is also the team in the playoffs most familiar with the Baltimore offense, which causes trouble for most teams who are not used to their speed.

Houston has enough offensive firepower and a good enough defense to compete with any team, but are still young enough to be vulnerable to mistakes.

Then again, a Bal v Buf/KC AFC title game wouldn't surprise anyone, though KC really isn't the offensive squad they were in the past. Taylor Swift is like the woman from the Natural who ruined Robert Redford's career. But in all seriousness, Kelce is actually older than Gronk and the rookie WR Rice is the only other offensive skill player that showed much competence for the Chiefs this year. They dropped a ton of passes.

Early tweet of the year candidate

Walking back an incredibly impactful book death for the sake of their worst show. I'm not okay with this.

Me neither. Thankfully, they must have heard a lot of similar feedback. I only hope the way they’re reconciling it is not to bring her back to life. It’s really only okay if it’s operating in flashbacks.

Rewatching the prequels and original trilogy. There’s some excellent fan stuff out there on YouTube. Here’s a mash up of Order 66 from Episode III and Clone Wars, Obi Wan, and other series.

After you watch Clone Wars, the death of Plo Koon is the hardest hit in Order 66.

Apparently the same dude spliced together a professional level 4 hour long cut of ROTS using the film, deleted scenes, both Legends and Canon versions of Clone Wars. You have to download the torrent (which I’ve never tried) but here’s his trailer:

And here’s a meme I made a few years back after making the regrettable decision to eat at Burger King:

I've actually been revisiting ROTS and the last 4 episodes of Clone Wars recently and wishing there was a cut of it all together in the correct spots.

Thanks, I'm gonna check this out.

Greef Karga has passed away.

Seemed like one of those guys who always kept himself in such good shape that he might live forever. Never looked his age in his latter years.

****. Too late to have the baby do the magic hand thing?

So, last Sunday Dan Campbell made two controversial "go for it" decisions against kicking FGs, which may or may not have changed the outcome of the game. My friend told me he was getting destroyed on twitter, sending me screenshots of people calling him a moron or an idiot.

I told him that we must have vastly different twitter feeds because most of what I saw was some mild debate with the consensus being that both decisions were marginal at worst and even slightly leaning towards going for it.

I'm really starting to see why people act and vote the way they do and why the divide in this country is so much larger that its ever been over the last decade, not uncoincidentally with the rise and take over of social meda.

I saw the trailer posted above for the last season of Bad Batch on FB this past week and dug into the comments, expecting to see it get blasted for the reasons I stated in the post. Yet the majority of what I saw was the lamenting of the best Star Wars show ever coming to an end...WTF??

Similar to WWE's Netflix announcement. Most of the comments were praising the move.

My point is.....

So many people have opposing viewpoints to my own and rather than tolerate and try to understand, they all need to be corrected before this really gets out of hand.

Just finished BCS this week so I’m obviously excited to see them work together again.

It was a close game.

It may have been an exciting game.

But it was not a particularly well played game.

Decided by penalties, turnovers and a missed PAT.

When it’s an exciting game and ends in the result I want, I am wholly uninterested in the quality of play. Not that I disagree.

Oh, I’m happy with it too. Cashed +350 preseason ticket on Chiefs I didn’t have much faith in when the playoffs started. Was agonizing about whether to cash out for a smaller profit for the last month.

Who are your mortal enemies in other sports?

So far you're 2 for 2 this year in those teams making it to the finals and not winning.

Well, the Astros, who at least stopped making it to the World Series for one season. But it doesn't feel far removed from their last title. And of course Texas isn't a particularly preferred alternative, but that's just sort of a general baseball problem for me where I like almost nobody in the AL (but would have been happy to see Baltimore go further) and am ignorant of most NL teams.

Also the Thunder even though I mostly ignore the NBA since the theft of the Sonics in 2008. I see that they're back in decent shape now, which is unfortunate. They're in a whole other "have no right to even exist" category that goes above and beyond normal sports hate.

As a newer NHL fan I can't claim a true mortal enemy yet. Oilers tend to be my least favorite so far, but the Kraken just haven't existed that long yet. There's more actual rivalry with the Avs at this point since we knocked them out of the playoffs and there's actual bad blood between the fanbases already stemming from that series, whereas I assume we barely exist to Edmonton so far.

Niners getting to the SB and losing is a fine season to me if you assume that the Seahawks can't do it (which obviously I didn't expect; it was another "hope we can be a marginal playoff team" year, this time falling short). UW even getting to play games and be viewed as human beings is a massive loss. Them getting as far as they did was just an escalating insult to anyone with taste. Yes, it could have been even worse, but what happened was an abject horror as is. There's been no worse sports season ever. In any sport at any level. It broke my brain and made me like sports in general less.

Thankfully WSU basketball is coming out of nowhere with a very solid chance to make the NCAA Tourney for (I think) the fourth time ever. Or at least the fourth time of my lifetime for sure. It's been good medicine for my sports funk. I expected absolutely nothing out of this season. Can't help but think that someone is going to wake up and poach Kyle Smith really soon and we'll be back to the drawing board with a lesser coach, but in the meantime this has been a fun season.

I for one respect LKJ for being years ahead of the game in bashing Aaron Rodgers

That was indeed one of my finest sports victories.

Seems they keep giving us bits and pieces of what the Empire is experimenting with in each show or movie.

Isn't Omega a perfect clone of (just female) of Jango Fett and just like Boba? Doesn't that mean anything they find in her bloodwork would be in theirs? Unless she's been altered in a way we haven't been told about?
