The Poker Zoo Podcast
The Poker Zoo Podcast, by Dean Martin and me, is nearing 100 episodes. I thought I would drop in some recent highlights here after all these years.
Originally the pod was created to serve the small poker community I founded, and so most of the episodes featured recreational players and aspiring pros, rather than celebrities or known players. There were many exceptions of course, and of late, we've been focusing on important ideas and people in the poker space.
Here's a few episodes students of the game won't want to miss:
Twoplustwo Publishing's own Mason Malmuth comes on the Zoo for the second time, here to talk specifically about his Gambling Theory essays and revised edition book. Mason mentioned he felt this was his finest interview, and the subject material I think is overlooked and important to poker players.
Hungry Horse's Marc Goone is interviewed about his now well known $100 an hour 5/5 NL challenge. We go over how and why he's going to succeed.
Abe comes on again, in between bans, to lay down the law for the umpteenth time. Always fun to hear from him.
There are many other highlight episodes, including interviews with Uri Peleg, Thomas Pinnock, Alvin Lau, Christian Soto and other poker instructors and creators. Today we're releasing a new one with Greg Vail, the Big O and PLO8 expert who is author of the Scoop! series, probably the best body of work on big bet split pot games ever written.
Lastly, Dean, who has done much of the production for us, deserves thanks for helping me bring so much slightly off the beaten track poker content to our listeners.

I am a new listener to the podcast and I really enjoy it. I listened to the Marc Goone episode when it came out and then went back and listened to several more past episodes. Been keeping up since then. Good stuff!
To be honest I think it's a little ****ed up that you keep having Alvin Lau on and even listing it as a highlight since he's basically a psycho and a habitual abuser of women and laundering it as "well he's rude to his students sometimes"
It seems like you have no trouble getting decent people on, you don't need to increase the profile of terrible people in poker

I find Alvin to be an interesting character and very good at poker, so if I point out that his main professional, self-admitted flaw is being rude to students, I don't think I'm really being particularly unreasonable.
More deeply, I'm not the morality police and the Poker Zoo is going to air poker players, not people who fit my ideal behavioral standards. I don't believe in "deplatforming, " period. As poker players, we sit and exchange money and time and conversation with people who do and have done all sorts of things. So, his ledger of student complaints is interesting but not prohibitive. As for other, more serious faults, I don't know of any evidence, never mind mere accusations.
I appreciate your passion on this subject, but I'd rather not say more here because this is a thread about the Poker Zoo, not Alvin. I'm happy to take this conversation elsewhere.
