Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
Guys.
Stop. Browser is doing the best he can here. Let him be.
It's funny you mention AI moderation. After testing it was recently rolled out for detecting and deleting and banning those mass spammers that hit the site with hundreds of spam threads without human mod intervention. It's amazing.
Unless it was the AI which removed the war in Ukraine thread, which seems likely to me (as a guess based on recent timing).
Luciom has been temp banned for one week for equating transgender with mental illness. The post has been deleted
that policy is absurd
it's genuinely no different from stating that jews or muslims aren't allowed to post here - absolutely bunk policy where people are not allowed to express opinions
yeah, such a wild and hateful stance for someone to believe that a woman with a penis is not suffering from mental health issues

This issue was discussed both within the forum and in the mod forum before the policy was finalized. We are not going to rehash that now. And if you attempt to make the case in this thread that all transgender people suffer from mental illness under the guise of discussing a policy you will be in violation of that policy and face appropriate mod action.
This policy is not open for reconsideration. Any posts attempting to do so will be deleted.
oh yeah, the old, tow the line or we'll ban you threats back in action
you're crushing it man, best mod since rapini

Yeah, funny thing about forum posting rules. You follow them or eventually get banned. That's kind of the entire point of having posting rules and moderators in the first place.
you're a mod of a discussion forum who is forbidding discussion... great job you're doing

Certain discussion, yes. If you want an unmoderated forum Im sure you can find one somewhere on the internet. This, obviously isnt one of them. So you can either come to grips with that fact, or leave and post elsewhere. I would hate to see you go, but if you feel the inability to call all transgender people mentally ill is an unbearable restriction to your freedom of speech, then Im afraid you will never be satisfied here.
I do not see why my comment was deleted. It was a view on moderation.
It asked no question about a moderation issue. You simply compared one mod to another. That's not what this thread is for.
Fair enough
Why is it you issue a warning to me publicly for saying Go fxxk yourself but another post who posts your fxxxing pathetic gets a private warning and you delete the post?
I am fine with the warning but be consistent in your actions .
I think moderation should posting warnings that were given . You post who gets a time out why not who gets a warning that we know your being fair as certain individuals here seem to get repeated passes for constant insults and folks know their reported posts are taken seriously

Because every situation is different, context is different and every posters mod action history is different. One poster may just get a deletion for the same post that another would get a two week ban. So it is impossible for other members to assess fairness absent knowledge of all those factors. And mods arent going to take the time to go into a detailed explanation of each action, nor then deal with a back and forth about whether one member thinks it was fair or another doesnt.
And as is clear from the post reports, there is a wide range of comments that people consider insults. So one poster may be adamant that a comment deserves a ban while another would think the comment is totally acceptable. I get that people are curious, but it is just not workable from a mod perspective to debate every mod decision, esp since there will never be agreemet in the forum as to what is "fair".

Than why even list whom is banned? It seems clear that if your conservative your more likely to be banned than if your Liberal

My announcing bans was actually a compromise I agreed to after feedback from members who felt it was helpful to know the length of bans or whether someone was permabanned. But I do that only with the understanding that it will not be followed by a discussion or justification of why a ban or why one length versus another.
It is not true that we take into account whether a poster is liberal or conservative in deciding mod actions.
But you weren't banned for making the most extreme comment I have every seen here, as you just mentioned.
luciom was banned for espousing a mainstream viewpoint that the majority of americans believe in and is only considered controversial among the extreme left who are pushing an agenda
i'm not even a conservative but it's pretty clear to see that "rule" for what it is

This has been discussed in the mod thread here before, and I posted about it in the trans thread, and it was discussed in the mod forum. At this point, the discussion is over. You don't have to agree with it, but it's not changing. People posting that being transgender is mental illness is not allowed because:
1) It isn't true based on those who define mental illness. It's not a leftist view, it's the mainstream view amongst psychologists and psychiatrists. Sure, those groups skew left, but they also know more about mental illness than any other group of people.
2) It is generally done to demean those who are transgender. This make those posts offensive to transgender people and is just mean.
3) It isn't really possible to have a productive conversation about transgender issues if every discussion just devolves back into an argument as to whether someone can truly be transgender.
I deleted several posts between posters comparing each others bans and insults. This isnt the thread for that. Please stop it.

Though its OK to call conservatives mentally ill and in no way demeans them or just mean?
Some of us would like some consistency here not just ban the conservative opinions
