British Politics
Been on holiday for a few weeks, surprised to find no general discussion of British politics so though I'd kick one off.
Tory leadership contest is quickly turning into farce. Trump has backed Boris, which should be reason enough for anyone with half a brain to exclude him.
Of the other candidates Rory Stewart looks the best of the outsiders. Surprised to see Cleverly and Javid not further up the betting, but not sure the Tory membership are ready for a brown PM.

Regarding the LD leadership contest, Jo Swinson is miles ahead of any other candidate (and indeed any of the Tory lot). Should be a shoe in.
Finally, it's Groundhog Day in Labour - the more serious the anti-Semitism claims get, the more Corbyn's cronies write their own obituary by blaming it on outlandish conspiracy theories - this week, it's apparently the Jewish Embassy's fault...
Depends if Galloway gets returned at the GE when there will presumably be an official Labour candidate. There is an issue as to whether Labour has forfeited its support in Muslim constituencies, which it has tended to take for granted (and Labour has been busily alienating the largely socially-conservative Muslim vote for years by pursuing certain weird white-elite agendas like the No Outsiders programme in schools), but there isn't a clear contender to capitalise on that across multiple seats.
No Outsiders enables children to recognise and embrace the diversity around them in preparation for global citizenship. The ethos teaches that ‘there are no outsiders here because everyone is welcome’.
How terrible.
Tax is high by historic standards. The problem is we've given everything away to the private sector
Just about everythign we are ruining used to be socialised. It's not a coincidence
Starmer's Labour is a sick party.
Rumours (and only rumours) going around that if the Tories' poll ratings don't improve they'll consider something in their election manifesto about rejoining the EU, trying to wrong foot Labour.
Would be a hard sell for Breixteer Sunak.

They'd lose even more of their vote share to Reform if they went down that route. Can't see it.
Sure, I don't see it either, but they may calculate that they'd gain more in critical constituencies from Remainers otherwise defecting to other parties, and their Red Wall seats are gone anyway.
If they stay with status quo there's almost no difference between their most high profile MPs and Reform, with Reform having the advantage of not having been in power and ruined the country for the last 14 years. So if the Tories felt they needed to put "clear blue sky" between them and Reform, it's one way of doing that while blaming Brexit on Farage/Reform as much as possible.
Has to be a joke. Not a sick joke like this one:
His Labour counterpart Ms Reeves has admitted it will force her to tweak her own plans.
Speaking to the BBC, she said Labour would now "go through every pound" in the government's spending plans to fund the policies.
"But we will find that money, because it is a national priority, and its is a Labour priority," she added.
Labour had planned to raise an extra £2bn compared to the government by replacing "non-dom" rules for UK residents based overseas for tax purposes.
It had earmarked £365m from this to fund free school breakfast clubs for all primary school pupils in England, if it wins the next general election.
It had also set aside £1.6bn to pay for more appointments in NHS hospitals, new CT scanners, and extra dentist appointments.
However, the chancellor has now stolen the policy to partially fund a further 2p in the pound cut to National Insurance, a payroll tax, which Labour has said it supports.

They should try a policy of renationising water/post office/buses/etc. Might even be popular with reform voters as well.
Make britain great again

It was quite a clever budget. The Tories know they are trying to hit a 1 outer at this point, so this budget was clearly designed to hamstring Labour as much as possible for when the Tories are in opposition. The only way Labour can now spend anything is by raising taxes, giving the Tories some leverage in opposition.

trains and buses would be really great, given you can really focus on reducing carbon footprint by making them workable for commuters again while using electric vehicles.
Yes. The same short-sighted fools ^^ who voted to privatise those services voted for Brexit.

labour set themselves up. It's 'clever' politcs because labour only have this one revenue raising policy and were going to mention it every time anythign to do with spending was brought up.
Unless they get very lucky with world growth/interest rates labour are just going to be implementing austerity and right wing policies. Tories will get levererage as you say and most of right will simply be okay with it.

What's the green plan fiscally for the UK ? More taxes or more deficit? Both?
pooorer people and less industry means less energy usage?
No enough but the cobtinued rise of reneable energy, electric vehicals etc is unstoppable
No plan is the plan.
They are following the plan with great determination
I'm impressed there still something left to prune
Is Labour about to prune its plan to boost workers’ rights?
Fears grow party is poised for another U-turn akin to ditching of £28bn green pledge as business groups call for pragmatism
