Six-card cribbage, one hopes.

by John Cole k

It better be unless you're playing teams. Then it's five cards.

I didn't know there is any other kind.

It was always 6-card unless his grandmother was visiting, then it was 5-card. I always thought 5-card was something she invented, but apparently it is an old variant.

More recently, when we played 3-handed Chinese poker, we would give everyone 17 cards and have them set a 4-card cribbage hand. The last card in the deck would be then turned over to play off of. I believe it was Raymer's invention.

probably better suited for the jazz thread, but summarily here we are because recent seasoning

Azar Lawrence
Summer Solstice 1975

Azar Lawrence, tenor/soprano
Ron Carter, bass
Billy Hart, drums
Albert Dailey, piano
Raul De Souza, trombone (Raul should have focused on the sousaphone)

why does Ron Carter continuously appear to be associated with every meaningful obscure jazz tune

let us all falsely continue to think coincidence and happenstance are synonymous
meanwhile instances of things occurred together but didn't when Schroeder chose to play piano for peanuts

dolly madison zinger strip the icing off the top and save for last bite

Anything goes in the LC thread. Hell, since I'm the moderator, almost anything goes anyway. (Within limits.)

I wonder if Bill James did a Jazz Extract, would Ron Carter appear as some weird outlier (a la Babe Ruth in baseball), head and shoulders above anyone else who ever touched a bass? Anyway, that's how I always picture him.

I wonder if a Jazz Extract would be an interesting problem. How could it be approached? What, exactly, would we be measuring?

When I am asked what bass players I like, I always interpret the question as: What bass players do you like ***BESIDES Ron Carter***, because Ron Carter is the given.

Tornado warning for RI, MA, and CT. So rare in New England. Let you know if I get taken to Oz.

If you're going to Oz, at least Kioshk will be there with you

I think I'd enjoy that.

Remember, the path home always resides within your heart.

let's just say for decades Ron Carter has masterfully wilted chamber lain bass finger pads upon thick strings and leave it at that

Stuck at my daughter's house pet sitting, and I was thinking of taking an Uber to see a movie tomorrow. The local cinema is showing old '70s and '80s movies throughout the summer.

Of course after the rare New England tornado warning yesterday, the movie that's playing is Twister.

I think I'll go see Mad Max instead.

Pet sitting ends tomorrow. It wouldn't be bad if I could drive. Or even had some place to walk around here. If I'm going to be isolated, I'd rather do it at home.

So I've been watching Star wars movies. Nothing too serious.

The best thing about Oz is having all those flying monkeys to do my bidding.

John Cole, you could use them to drive you around up there in Lovecraftland.

The path home is first base, second base, third base; then home. Sliding is not necessary but sometimes increases your probability for making it safely.

Have you watched Andor, John? that's good.

Rockies at White Sox series beginning tomorrow. I guess somebody will probably win.

Andor is good. That new one, The Acolyte, is terrible. Fighting is no substitute for storytelling.

Both Lovecraft and Poe walked the streets of Providence.

Looking forward to the debate and anticipating how far afield they will get from answering the actual questions.

you can always choose the shortcut from second to home across the mound
but careful not to catch a cleat and slip off the rubber

You know in the old days, a runner could steal first from second.

played a couple of those games while in my teens

I can remember when players left their gloves on the field when changing sides.
