Phil Ivey is the Stone Cold Nuts
official thread for all Ivey love
One of my friends played with Ivey at a WPT and told me his experience at Ivey's table.
In my experience river check raises in tournaments are real rare, more so live and especially all-in. Well apparently Ivey managed to put himself in spots 4 (four!) times in one level of a live tournament, where he check shipped the river for some massive bet in a huge ****ing pot at some table of name live pros.
Every time it was some real coordinated ass board with a dozen straights, paired cards, flushes whatever and the other player tanked for several minutes, grabbing their shoulders pulling at their hair and sweating and twitching and **** before folding, while Ivey just stared down like a gangster.
Eventually some of the players- I mean you know these live name pros, they come to respect themselves enough that they figure they can talk/kid with Phil at the table- well one of them gave him some crap jokingly about, who does he think he is?
and Ivey is just like:
my friends interpretation of Ivey's facial expression was:
Shut the **** Up.
I'm Phil Ivey.
fyi the 4th time he check shoved, he got called. You can guess what he had.
Anyone old enough to remember how this place (2+2) would be lit if Phil Ivey so much as sniffed a final table ?
Ya want one?
its so crazy how big ivey could be if he tried like 10% as much as negreanu does. But i guess when you're just that good you don't need to talk about it.

Negreanu made really good TV on those old WPT final tables, talking to people to get information, etc. He does those vlogs, which most players couldn't do so well. GG wants him for fish who don't know or care how good he really is. It also helps he is Canadian, because of restrictions on online play in the US, and it appeals better to an international market not being US.
Most poker players are introverted and are used to showing no expression and giving off no information. Ivey has some personality and is not nerdy, but he doesn't say much at the table and can't put on a show like Negreanu.
Ivey is quiet because the people around him most of the time are not worth engaging with. When you're actually sharp and funny, a lot more people suddenly become cringe and poker is chock full of people whose egos prevent them from realizing how awkward they are to be around. If you put Ivey at a table with Phua, Rui Cao, Dwan, and other gamblers at his level you'll see him joking more and willing to talk. If you put him at a table with Negreanu and Helmuth he's going to stay quiet aside from polite responses.
It's not Ivey in particular, but most top players don't have the personality DN has to make vlogs etc. marketable to fish.
He has made the money in 250k for @ least $506k, 9th or better will move him up to 11th on all time money list & 5th will move him up to 10th.

Might have a point here, remember him being very talkative in that hustler casino stream game with Alexandra Botez , Keating and others
iirc he unofficial final tabled last year.
Go Phil Ivey!!!
Ivey binks his 1 card draw in 7-2 triple draw against Ausmus in a very large pot. Now second in chips. Him vs Dnegs HU would feed Pokergo content for the rest of the year (decade?)

If Ivey and Negreanu bust all the other players the PokerGo marketing director is going to bust in his pants.
I would't mind a FT with David Benyamine in it as well. It's like we're time traveling back to 2004
Well Ivey is the coolest but takes a little bit away from his status that he ends in debt for a decade after losing to Trueteller in a crossbook match and is still making payments which should have been paid instantly after the match for sure, I bet they did not agree that loser can pay through the years, expectation probably was that the loser would be paying instantly or shortly.
Yeah the baccarat thing and some other unlucky events might have happened, but its little bit sad to see that the best player from that era has been basically broke for a decade. Yeah he can afford to play big games with backers and sponsorship money but he has not been winning big if he still is making payments from one single headsup challenge from almost a decade ago.
Just like Tom Dwan. I guess Antonius would be the GOAT from that era because it seems like hes been big winner through the years in the biggest public live cash games and he doesnt have any unsettled debts.
And yes we dont know any details of the situation butt the facts are he lost big long time ago and is still making payments from it so he was playing with a monet that he did not have by crossbooking clearly?
how do we know about the debts to trueteller?
there was also some chatter here about antonius stalling a 100k debt sometime ago lol
