When I go to see the in-laws, I drive past the cranberry bogs. The cranberry farmers are good guys, and they all belong to a collective, Ocean Spray.

Red Sox fan. I have experienced the ups and downs. When the Sox won the Series in 2004, many fans escaped that doom and gloom Puritan mindset.

Johnny spent his youth plowing land with mules that should have only been plowed with oxen.

and still confuses steinbrenner with steinbeck

“Well, it’s ten acres,” said George. “Got a little win’mill. Got a little shack on it, an’ a chicken run. Got a kitchen, orchard, cherries, apples, peaches, ‘cots, nuts, got a few berries. They’s a place for alfalfa and plenty water to flood it. They’s a pig pen-----------“

“An’ rabbits, George.”

“No place for rabbits now, but I could easy build a few hutches and you could feed alfalfa to the rabbits…An’ we could have a few pigs...

True. New England soil is rocky as hell, which is why farmers built fences out of rock for demarcating land ownership. And why you needed a large team of oxen to plow your fields. Also most people in New England have rocks for brains, they are almost as stupid as the Irish.

Speaking of oxen, the word for writing that goes left to right and then right to left and so on is "boustrophedon." It comes from the Greek, meaning oxen turning. So the handwriting looks like oxen plowing a field.

I'm a half Irish New Englander.

Does the other half being English ameliorate the Irish half, Zeno?

No way; just a few percentage points of the Irish gene contaminants your brain and world outlook.

How's it going for those of you out west.

Even here in RI temps have hit the 90s three days in a row. Where I live next to the water, it's foggy and in the mid 70s. I can't imagine how bad things are in Texas.

Have you heard about the pro-natalis movement?

things in Vegas are hot...but that's normal. Just gotta make sure our AC doesn't quit on us

Texas is paradise; great food, friendly people, good beer; and endless roads to nowhere!

The west coast is a paradise; especially where I live. God rents a cabin during the summer just up river from my humble abode.
