he's not though. He only took this dealer job after 3 years of a pathetic win rate at baby stakes nl when even he couldn't cut expenses any further.
If he was still making even 14 dollars an hour at these games he never would have taken the Orleans gig.

As prev said, he IS making it work in his own way. He is making it work by dealing during a portion of the year to supplement his income, and then being a nomad the rest of the year. That is doing it HIS way. Is this a referendum on how well he plays poker, or how he funds his lifestyle? You seem to be confusing the two.

Would you like people you don't know, or even worse, people you DO know (friends and relatives), telling you how to live your life, what you can and can't do? I don't think you would. Does that basic tenet of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness go out the window when you're in the public eye? If so, why?

by iwasbanned k

Darn close to impossible to pay your bills at $1/3.
Rice saw the handwriting on the wall, and got a job.
From here on out, Rice's number one source of income will be dealing, followed closely by his six figure dividend portfolio, of course.

I think the problem is volume and not necessarily the hourly. I would assume he's making around $20-30 at his new job, that is do-able in 1/3 but not alot of ppl can sustain playing poker 40 hours a week and still play their best. Even worse when you're on a downswing and the only way to ride it out is to keep playing. Not alot of people can play their A game playing 40 hours a week and when things arent going their way.

Now I agree that $20-30 an hour is almost impossible to pay your bills assuming you are living a conventional life with a family and regular expenses but is do-able for a single person renting out a room and with minimal expenses like think blue.

Winning $20-30 in poker assuming you're a winning player of course, which we don't know if he even is. And assuming you have a big enough bankroll to sustain a downswing, which we don't know either.

It's interesting how people study so much poker stuff, looking at solvers, watching youtube video, getting coaches, yet basic things like bankroll and tilt management goes out the window. It seems like people greatly inflate their ability to be a winning player without ever seeing results and assume their lack of results is due to bad luck rather than atrributing it to their lack of skill.

I don't have a public vlog where I smugly declare myself to be a pro at something I'm terrible at.

People did the same thing with Trooper. These guys VOLUNTARILY put these vlogs out calling themselves poker pros when they're disasters at it. Yet dispite the fact they do it publicly people can't comment on it? That's silly. Nobody is going around following random grinders in 1/2 nl ,telling them they suck and commenting about them on the Internet.

He can do whatever he wants. He can sit at Harrah's all week and watch 16 hours a day of king of queens if he wants that's his right. Nobody disputes that.

You're right about tilt management and that's a huge issue with trying to make a living at low stakes poker. You will run bad at some point. It's hard to live off of it and save any money up in the process so what happens when you run bad? You're broke.

It's fine for a profitable hobby. It's fine as something you're gonna take a shot at with the plan to move up as fast as possible. But as something to do for years on end it's a disaster.

100% . 1 cooler, 1 bad play, 1 hand played on tilt can make you unprofitable for the week at low stakes. Compound any of that and its pert near impossible to make reliable money and next thing you know you're in the bathroom of your comped hotel room mixing up anchovy slurry in your rice cooker wondering where it all went wrong.

Rooms are sky high over $500 this weekend. 30,000 computer hackers are coming to town and driving rates up to the detriment of nomads. Worse than F1.

Someone check the MLB schedule and see where our hero’s next exotic getaway is happening!

Phillies @ Dbacks or Braves @ Rockies this weekend.

Or maybe Tigers @ Giants.

can't be that high. I play a lot but getting comped Bellagio and aria for the weekend means it's not that crazy

Prev said he's doing it his way, and you said no he isn't. Isn't that the issue in debate? How is what he's doing NOT doing it his way? Seems like a pretty simple point of fact. Him working part of the year and then living a nomadic lifestyle the rest of the year seems like he's doing life his way, not what society expects as far as living a normal life of a full-time job and living in one place.

Your projection onto El Diesel Rice-a-Roni is there for the picking. Has he said "I'm a pro poker player" or "I'm crushing poker"? He merely plays for money to get by; you're simply giving him those labels and then expecting him to live up to those expectations. Does the fact that he chooses to be in the public eye make it okay for others to project their expectations onto others to fill their own needs? I mean, I can find other fulfilling ways to spend my life than inferring genuine smiles when telling stories as "smugness".

I played a good bit of cash this summer at Orleans and given this thread I eventually asked the cash dealers what they think the tourney people walk away with weekly. One of them said that the NLHE tourneys pays the least and if you can deal anything beyond it would be more, I think roughly $15/$20 for each down + hourly. So if you assume the minimum hourly for pit dealers is 11ish. You can pull close to 40-50/hr pretax dealing that series.

I was never at his table.

Righteous bucks

These low limit vloggers are not winning $20-$30 an hour in Vegas 1-3 games. They don’t even like to play in the rooms with a $500 max buy-in and prefer rooms with a $300 max.

When he first started El Diesel said his records showed him winning $11 an hour in Vegas games and it seems like he didn’t do great in the last year so that number could be lower now. And that winrate is a million times better than I’ve seen from other vloggers playing lower stakes.

Sklansky and Malmuth even have a new book out specifically for players like El Diesel, Trooper, Bike King, etc. Will a single one of them read it? Nope.

by Lionelhuttz k

Diesel’s YouTube cheer squad that consists of only gas station people that couldn’t fog a mirror are not doing him any favors, huge echo chamber of nitwits.

Sounds like Trooper’s nitwits found a new home.

Also sounds like the group Pman wishes he had.

Oh thank goodness for today's vlog. I've been so worried Diesel would get shorted at Orleans on his paycheck.

Spoiler alert. He did not. Everyone can relax now.

Yes he's not smug at all. He just thinks he's the best at everything he does despite failing massively over and over again. Anyone who questions his piss poor win rate or mentions he plays way too tight (hence his small swings which he thinks are a brag) is a miserable idiot. This is a guy who genuinely thinks hes a better drive than professional race car drivers. Yup,not smug in the least.

I mean if you want to say his way is getting to a point where he can cut expenses any further and had to get a job for a couple of months that's fine. I just don't agree. That wasn't part of his plan at all and I don't think it was "his way". It was an act of sheep desperation.

We need to get this guy to review one of the El D 5 course meal videos:

Not sure he’s ever made a more pointless video. The only numbers he shares is any micro differences between his record of hours worked and his employer’s record. He finally cracked the code on how to not double count OT hours and acts like it’s a grand accomplishment.

I think that diesel is just a dumb guy. Many dumb people think they are geniuses.

What I want to know is, where is Rice's unsanctioned airport trip going, and what is he going to do when he gets there?

If he shot that footage yesterday, it has to be Denver for the Mets/Rockies game today at 1:10 pm Mountain time. Only question is if he’s able to stay past the 7th inning stretch before catching the return flight.

He should just camp out at the airport for a Sunday return flight in order to get the best room rates. Hopefully ELD can check out the sleeping room at the airport gym I think it is around $50 way better than the sky high room rates.
