AR5 and Bruce making progressTLaw was trash before getting blown up

How are Stafford and AR5 in the top 5? They were both average at best this week.

Russell not in top 5? He goes 29/38 414 yards, 3 tds 1 INT in a divisional win.

Bad defense? Probably, but also probably best QB performance of the week.

Having a coach who knows all of the rules is an edge.

or a coach who knows TOs should be spent on end of half/game clock management decisions, not YOLO challenging results of chunk yardage plays with the hope of binking a three outer on the river

Thankfully that coach is no longer in charge of decisions.

I thought Russ should be in there.

I was also wondering how Tua wasn't in the top 5. Sure they lost, but so did Burrow and Bryce. Tua also put up awesome numbers (minus getting sacked 5 times) against a solid defense in sub 30 degree weather.

it's where stats can be misleading. 240+ yards were after the catch. Russ didn't play badly but it was their line and scheme that were the heroes

65.2% of the passing yds were YAC

he also had a pick-6

Russ played great

however, based on an EPA per dropback basis, he isn't in this week's top 5

i'm not sure exactly how it works, but i believe YAC has something to do with it

i'm sure you know but just in case, weather and winning or losing the game has zero impact on EPA

It’s the 21st straight season in Pittsburgh without a sub-.500 record, tying the Tom Landry-era Cowboys for the longest such streak in NFL history.

Including Week 13, Barkley’s average distance for his past seven TDs is 37 yards. None have been closer than 19. The fact that he has just one red zone rushing TD since October (and barely one at that) is incredible.

Tarheeb Still, CB, Los Angeles Chargers --
Just a monster day for a fifth-round rookie who has been having a heck of a year. He picked off Kirk Cousins twice and returned one of those interceptions for a 61-yard touchdown. He also recorded a critical pass breakup against Drake London on the Chargers' penultimate defensive play in their 17-13 win over Atlanta. Still now has allowed -27 EPA as the nearest defender this season, best among all cornerbacks, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

Josh Allen is the first player in NFL history to get engaged to a movie star a week before breaking his franchise’s total TDs record held by the city’s living legend on a play in which he both threw AND caught a TD for his signature MVP moment on a Sunday night in a blizzard

Mike Sando makes the argument that LJack is the MVP thru Week 13

The best MVP candidates are quarterbacks who carry their teams to victories despite poor support from their defenses and special teams. This is when the most valuable players (quarterbacks) are truly most valuable.

With kicker Justin Tucker slumping and the defense still finding its footing, the Ravens rank 29th in combined EPA on defense and special teams, one spot ahead of Cincinnati. They are nonetheless 8-5 and projected to finish 11-6, per The Athletic’s model, because their offense ranks first in EPA overall and per play.

Jackson’s 13-game Betrayal Index figure this season ranks third over the past decade among all QBs whose teams were at least three games above .500 at this point (see table below), per TruMedia.

The other QBs in the top five — Mahomes in 2018 and 2022, Aaron Rodgers in 2020 and Matt Ryan in 2016 — all won MVP honors in those seasons. Whether MVP voters knew it or not, they were rewarding the quarterbacks whose brilliance helped overcome weaker support from their defenses and special teams. That is Jackson this season.

Offense obviously isn't the problem for the Ravens. Definitely enduring the worst 3-game stretch of the season, but no reason to think it will stay like this.

Even at 24-19, remove the garbage time Ravens drive and they essentially were even with the Eagles in ypp. A lot would have said Eagles solidly won but Ravens held their own. Definitely some fumble luck.

Tucker is an issue.

Lamar still very much in MVP race if they boatrace the last 4 including the Steelers.

The thing those other QBs have in common is they all won their division.

If the Steelers hold ground and win the AFCN, there's close to zero chance that Lamar wins MVP.

indeed

narratives play a key role

Imagine if Ravens miss playoffs.

Their only "gimmie" is the Giants.

Steelers, Texans, and Browns will all be challenges.

I hope you're not saying the QB has nothing to do with YAC.

And the INT was very early in the game. He was close to perfect the rest of the way.

And they won, which is kinda important. Putting Baker bottom 5 is really dumb.

Nothing against guys trying to rank performances, but they all have flaws. Just like models that use league averages to determine play calls.

MIA and CIN should swap.

Can't tell if Eagles too low or Ravens too high.

Allen feels a lock to win MVP outside injury and a few other unlikely things. Maybe barkley gets 2300 rushing yards.
