Caesars Virginia
Temporary casino opens May 15, 2023. Will it have poker?
Just read there’s a delay with their opening until Dec. 17th
Looks like Dennis Rodman will be the master of ceremonies, should be a good time.
Well that sucks, no way I can be there Dec. 17, I’m flying to Vegas that day!
Yeah, I just learned this also. Still hoping to host a dealer's choice game, 10-20 limit, but now on 12/17. If you already let me know you want to be on the initial list for the game, please contact me again and re-confirm you still want a seat on the 17th, or tell me you can't make it (already saw your post NickMPK, bummer). If you couldn't make it before, but can now, and want a seat, please let me know. You can contact me at greg@fossilmanpoker.com. Thanks!
As per their website, they are opening on December 17th !!
See tables running now (12/14, Saturday) on Bravo app…. Is this place already running?!!?
I happened to look on Bravo also and saw the games listed. Tried to call, however the number for Caesars Virginia isn't working. In fact, they've never had a direct number to the temp casino, everything was routed to the generic call centers which had no information other than the slight bits that they released on facebook and through media outlets.
I finally just called Harrah's Cherokee poker room where the staff was nice enough to investigate. Their info says it was only a test and that games indeed will not be running until at least 12PM noon on Tuesday.
Nothing has changed on the list (including tables, waiting, etc.) in over an hour, so I'm guessing the answer from Cherokee is correct.
Pretty awesome that the best way to get information is to call an unlisted number at a casino almost 5 hours away.

What part of they will be opening noon on the 17th did you not understand? How dare they test the bravo before.

Sheesh.
First off, why would you think I was unable to comprehend that they would be doing testing on the Bravo app prior to the open of a major casino poker room?
Secondly, I don't think I ever implied in my post that testing the Bravo app was in any way unacceptable.
If you'd like to talk ****, you might want to work on improving your ability at doing so based on the information at hand.
Lastly, the irritation that you correctly derived from my post was regarding the inability to get information directly from a casino that has been in operation (even if temporary) for over a year and a half. Moreover, it does in fact irritate me that during this period of operation, they have yet to provide a working local number for patrons and the numbers that have been provided ring through to offsite premises operators with no direct knowledge of the local operations, and they have no ability to contact the casino directly.
i emailed George, the poker room manager, last night with some general questions about the room, rake, etc. the only info on bravo is "rake: $7 and $2" which is pretty vague.
he responded to almost all of them this morning. so for anyone like me from central NC that refuses to play shady home games and finally will have regulated casino poker close by for the first time ever, it's pretty exciting and i wanted to know how things will be run. here's what was said:
- are any of the higher stakes games time raked? ($5/$10+) if so what's the rate?
5/10 and up we take$8 time per half hour
- how are the drops done specifically... is it 10% up to $7? is there a flat amount taken on the flop and then additional amounts on turn/river? (i.e., some casinos will do $1 pre, $4 on flop, $1 on turn and $1 on river)
10% of pot up to $7 and promotion $2. $1 per $10 in pot.
- do you rake for pots that don't go to a flop and/or if players chop the blinds? if so how much?
No flop no drop
- do rake amounts vary based on number of players currently at the table?
(no response but i can only assume that will be the case)
- are all games 9 handed max or 8?
NL is 9 handed...and 8 handed for Omaha or mix games
- for the $2 promo drop, how is that calculated per pot and what exactly are the promos it's going towards? daily high hand, bad beat jackpot, etc? will there be special promos that run occasionally, or is it all just bad beat jackpot?
Promotional $2 will fund Bad beat Jackpot and any High Hands we will run in future.
- regarding the last question, if there is a BBJ, what's the structure for that? minimum qualifying hand, percentage paid out to winning hand, losing, hand, and players, and minimum amount in the jackpot once it resets?
Quad eights 50% Loser 25% winner 25% table share
- how much do players earn per hour in comps while playing? $1/hr? $2/hr?
$1
- lastly, is there a list anywhere of restaurants or shops in the casino that the comps earned from poker can be redeemed at?
I do not have that info will let you know in future
Yes, by far. Will be about 1.5 hours drive, compared to 3 hours to Portsmouth, 5.5 hours to MD casinos, and 6 hours to Cherokee.
still around the Wakefield area, Greg? I'm from Raleigh - random story, a few years ago my sister came home telling me "i just met this nice woman, Cheryl, at a bar i was at... she's married to a poker champ, you know of him?" i guess they had a few drinks and talked for a bit. i got a good chuckle from that as your ME win was the first televised poker me and my friends watched. I'm in the N. Raleigh area myself and can't wait to have regulated action this close... totally sick of the drive to MD live, Cherokee, etc, and i avoid home games at all costs after two i used to play at got robbed (one of them made the WRAL news) ....hope to see ya there 👍
Interesting post on the Ceasars Virginia FB page. They are holding a VIP night prior to the grand opening tomorrow. The poker tables have “side bets” on them?

Yes, still in Wakefield. That meetup must have been quite a while back, as my wife stopped drinking entirely over 6 years ago. See you at Danville!
The Dealer's Choice game is still on for 1pm today. When it's your turn, pick any game they are allowed to deal (but you can't pick holdem), and we play one orbit of your game. They have most of the games approved, including badacey, and a few dramaha variants. Today's game will be 10-20 limit. Future games just depend upon demand, could be as low as 4-8 limit, or as high as 400-800 limit. Whatever the players want!!
$7 + $2 is pretty high - is that the new norm going forward?
MGM is $5 + $3 and same with most other maryland casinos.
This gave me the idea to do the same with my question and I guess I wasn't as excited about the answer I got. The rake will be $7 (plus $2 for a jackpot drop) just like at Cherokee (which I admit should not have been that much of a surprise since it is the same corporation partnering with the same tribe). Reading between the lines, I got the feeling the poker manager, who was the guy that answered also thinks it is ridiculously high.
I responded by asking " Other than Cherokee and soon you gu
I live 30 minutes from National Harbor, so unless the toothless hookers there also give discounts to those of us 60+, I'll probably skip the journey.
did anyone already visit the new poker room? I'm not sure if Fossilmans meet up game went down, but in any case I'd like to hear about one specific thing i just learned about that worries me - the smoking!... it appears smoking is allowed on the floor and I'm not sure if it's also allowed in the poker room.
is there smoking in the poker section? if not, can you smell it wafting in from the pits? i have terrible sinuses that get extremely dry and completely close up if exposed to heavy smoke. this is going to be a nightmare for me if it's thick and heavy in there. maybe they'll come to their senses and ban it inside soon. until then i might have to buy some masks. hate my clothes smelling like stale smoke too....ugh. if anyone wants to start a player petition to relegate smoking to outdoors I'll be the first to sign it
I was there opening night.
The poker room is smoke free, but there is smoking on the gaming floor. There’s also ashtrays set up just outside the entrance to the poker room, and poker players tend to go there to smoke.

I didn't notice any cigarette smell during my entire visit. Heck, I didn't even notice it when I was outside the poker room to cash out and walk to the exit. I could imagine there being an issue with the tables closest to the doorway to the casino. If so, get a table change to one of the tables further back. I doubt it will be much of an issue inside the poker room.
well that's a relief to hear, thanks guys. though i wonder what it'll be like on weekend nights when traffic is heavy on the floor. guess that remains to be seen...or smelled, rather.
I guess I've gotten spoiled playing in rooms/casinos that don't allow smoking except in very restricted areas.
They are doing a $2 promotional drop without running any promotions? So it’s just a straight $9 rake right now? I’m much less likely to want to play in the room if this is the case.
Seems like it’s working for them right now though; Bravo shows a 58 people on the waitlist for 1/3 and 46 people on the waitlist for 2/5. If the room is that popular, why aren’t the running anything higher?
I was excited about this place being only an hour from me, but I'll be passing on that rake...
I assume that promotional drop goes into a bad beat jackpot, not to the house?
That is a pretty big poker room. Are they close to filling it? I guess Raleigh-Durham it a little over an hour is the nearest significant city.
