My point is if Elon doesn’t know this stuff it’s really weird for him to care enough to pretend. Like if he cared enough about people thinking he’s a genius to pay mathematicians or physicists to add him as a coauthor on papers, I’d expect him to at least read and be able to regurgitate the abstract of the paper he supposedly coauthored. Because if you’re so uninterested you can’t do that, why bother even trying to fake it?

He just thought PoE would be very similar to that, it's like someone who is actually good at say trading bonds going into equity options and making a disaster because he has no clue about options but he thought "well it's just trading".

This is more about arrogance and being and attention whore than about being "desperate at being liked". The latter isn't very credible especially when it's about someone who makes a lot of people very angry very often with his claims on political stuff, and he does that on purpose.

But nope, nada, you can't admit there is heavy debate and no humble acceptance of whatever Musk says within the right, you have to paint the objectively false picture of people being zombies waiting for orders on the right.
When that's actually what routinely happens on the left instead, when orders come to change language for example all leftists comply.
The right is what the left was many decades ago, a big very diverse tent with very different priorities, and while almost everyone on the right is thankful to Musk for basically having allowed this election to go how it went, they didn't give him a blank check AT ALL.
Well coordi Musk was in bed with actual democrats for longer that he has been in bed with republicans so even if the "both sides" thing is usually overblown, in this particular case it is absolutely appropriate.
You are right Musk can be problematic, that's true of everyone who was very friendly with democrats and schemed with them for long times. True for Trump as well.

Yeah, I wonder too. I feel like in the past there was some sort of baseline of truth out there. The right and left fought, but everything they fought about was sort of agreed upon. Now with the maga twitterverse they take a stand that has no basis in reality. So, they pick a guy that tells them it's just fine to do this.
I dunno where we're going but it isn't looking good right now. Maybe the magaverse runs out of other people to blame for every little thing. Doubtful.
My bigger concern is that the Overton window has moved so much that even post-MAGA, that baseline is gone. But often things look worse than they are when you're living in the moment, so hopefully this will end up being just a moment in time.

Yeah, between this and already rolling back his big "DOGE" numbers, the only explanation that makes sense to me is that his sycophant army has empowered him to let his inner 16 year old self come out and he just spews whatever braggadocio/trash talk he feels like saying - probably couldn't do that as a nerdy 16 year old, so he's getting his chance now.

And to be clear, I don't think the flaw is that he's not a free speech absolutist, it's that he made the ridiculous claim that he would be one. None of the social media platforms are, they don't need to be, and they shouldn't be. And to take your statement a little further, we shouldn't believe *any* social media platform that says they will be. You have social media ownership/management with their own biases and motivations to steer things a certain way, and even those with no bias or desire to censor things in the beginning, they won't end up being free speech absolutists. Even if they were to manage being 100% politically neutral, people will push the envelope to a point where they are forced to act. It's an unacheivable goal in the long term.
