I didn't even know they played hockey in sweden, i care very little about most sports in general and only have some vague soccer knowledge because a minimum is required in some social groups among italian men.
But i mean i am still sometimes surprised when friends mention me the supposedly super important match for our city club is happening say tomorrow (we are in champions league which we weren't for ages), because i just don't follow sports.

hockey doesn't exist in Italy, no one i ever met ever talked about hockey, i vaguely knew it's something important for canada, i didn't even know it existed in europe at all.
Winter olympics are also almost irrelevant for italians (even if at times we are decent in those sports, and even if we hosted them recently and will again soon). Literally no one in my enlarged friends and relative circle ever cared a minute about any "winter sport". Like i know no one who even does skiing

I remembered something specific about formula72 that I looked up to confirm that I didn't have him confused with someone else. Otherwise, I'm going by memory.

Not sure why you think that "getting out more" would expose me to winter sports: i don't live in a mountainous area, and as i said people here don't talk about those sports at all.
ye really. Doesn't register at all, pretty sure if we ask 1000 italians less than 5 of them can name a single italian hockey player.
I mean we are among the best in the world in water polo yet maybe 5% of people watch a game per year. And hockey is order+ of magnitude behind that.
You think of yourself as a common sense conservative by European standards and a centrist by U.S. standards. You don't have much use for the billionaire class. But you also don't have much use for ever-changing attempts to change language to suit what you believe are the whims of groups that will never be satisfied. You are relatively isolationist, although not excessively so. One of your defining personality characteristics is crankiness.
I also get the vibe that you grew up around a lot of working class people and that you believe that you understand the struggles of everyday people better than most here.

You thought around the time that Obama was elected that we were making real progress in this country. Trump has annihilated your optimism and now you are angry.

aaahhaaa. you got some right but I'm definitely not an old school liberal. Didn't vote for Obama either time. In fact, I've voted every republican presidential candidate up until trump. He changed the entire way I look at politics.
In fact, I was really sort of "whatever" with politics in general. Just didn't care that much. No matter what happened politically there was always some semblance of stability. The huge bureaucracy ensured that things don't change all that much.
But, yeah, Trump annihilated that for sure and I am angry.
I have a 20 something niece and we are very close.
