View: It is the time to switch to 4 Color Deck for Live Poker

In my humble opinion it is a bit archaic to continue with:

Red for both hearts and diamonds
Black for both spades and clubs

I advocate that we should make diamonds Blue and clubs Green.

1. It will make seeing the cards easier and surely speed up action.
2. New players who have cut their poker teeth online, while using 4 color decks, will have a more easier transition to live.
3. It will help minimize dealer errors (like the very costly one that recently happened at a WSOP event).

I know this breaks with "tradition" but poker has evolved over the years with different games, formats, and even some rules. Heck, check-raising used to be not allowed!

Let's make live poker great again with a 4 color deck!

Can someone explain to me why the blue and green seem faded on most sites? I've always hated this. Can they not find a better blue and green??? lol

I'm talking about the deck on the bottom pic

They may have worked on it. Actually dug up my old four color deck, and the blue was so dark it looked like spades.

Nah people just need to pay more attention. Rake keeps going up but WSOP doesn’t improve. Bullshit careless mistakes and errors seem to only plague WSOP. You don’t see any of this amateur crap from other companies like WPT.

WSOP has such a stranglehold on the poker world they just don’t give a ****.

Where are the WSOP floors in any of these situations? Players using solvers on the rail of the ME finalntable, dealers turbo mucking the winning hand at a final table. These things could easily be avoided if the floors weren’t checked out. WSOP should at the very least take some accountability but they won’t because who cares?

I’d prefer it if all four suits were black.

love 4 color decks also

Does people play PLO5/PLO6 live with 2 color decks ? must be insane.

Why was it a massive fail? I’ve used four color decks in all my home games for more than a decade, and never heard a complaint.

4 color deck
It’s mystical

The English Opening is arguably the best white opening if you need to win.

This is silly. Four-color decks is just something helpful if you're playing multiple tables online. And obviously that's not a concern with B+M

You're reaching now Mcsuckin.

But you almost won me back with mystical...

Because it's mystical.

Yeah pretty much this.

If people started playing poker with a 4-color decks, how many do you think would be suggesting moving to a 2-color deck?

no one liked it

we have a few older players who were thrown off by the colors (and a colorblind player who wasn't present but with 100% certainty wouldn't be able to distinguish blue from green)

sure, if you introduce 4 color decks from the beginning and give people no choice then everyone will adjust eventually but I just don't buy the argument that they are better, it's simply a matter of preference

Then he is among a tiny minority. Nearly all color blindness is red green

I know this break

It will also help those players who attempt to look at the cards of someone sitting next to them.

Maybe the greatest obstacle is possible flashing. Now if something red/black flashes it's not filled with so much information.

Jumbo index cards are in use at my casino, that's good progress. Standard red-black color though.

Jumbo index cards have the same problem. They make it easier for someone to determine what cards someone sitting next to them holds.

Poker rooms should be conscious of never doing things which might benefit an unscrupulous player.

Great point, MM.

I see flashed cards almost every time I play, sometimes from other players, sometimes from the dealer, sometimes both.
I've even seen burn cards from sloppy dealers or the back card of the deck when they don't hold the deck level. I say something when I see a card (and usually it's something like "red face card" nor the exact card) but I don't trust a lot of people to do the same.

I probably misread my suits a couple of times a year, and that's playing plo. And of those times it might cost me mone

If you pay attention, you'll see flashed cards much more than you think is possible. Many players, especially in hold 'em, are very careless with how they look at their cards. This is especially true if they're not going to play the hand (and just knowing dead cards is an advantage to a skilled player.)

I remember years ago when this came up with the argument that it would make it easier for players to read their hands (and this included the board cards). I pointed out that in our books we used a one color deck and never had a complaint.

Absolutely. I always tell people to be careful when I see their cards. Some still don't listen.

Someone who really wants to try to see cards as a sloppy dealer pitches them can especially if they're short.

It's actually aggravating how sloppy some poker dealers are. You'll see them do stuff you'd never see even the worst blackjack dealers doing.

there's been countless times i've folded pocket pairs in spots where i shouldn't have normally because i was flashed one of my outs
