NCAA Basketball Thread 2024-2025
Quick OP here just to get us up and running
Things to watch for this year:
1. Can UConn 3-peat? Hurley won back to back championships with Clingan, Tristen Newton, and company. Can he make it a third with only one returning starter?
2. Who will be this years national player of the year? Zach Edey was the best player I've seen play college basketball in my lifetime. People throw the term generational talent around alot and Edey was truly a generational talent winning back to back national player of the year awards. But, now he's gone. So who can win the award?
- the 5th year guards in Mark Sears(Alabama) and RJ Davis(UNC) are a good spot to start. Both elite shooters and engines of an offense, they should lead two really good teams.
- the 5th year centers in Hunter Dickinson(Kansas) and Ryan Kallbrenner(Creighton) are also viable options. They'll be the anchors to what should be two really good teams.
- The phenoms: Cooper Flagg(Duke), Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper(Rutgers), VJ Edgecombe(Baylor), and Tre Johnson(Texas) lead a loaded freshman class.
3. Who are the contenders?

Guy hasnt won a tournament game or ever finished top 50 KenPom but yeah BOOM welcome to Indiana.

If you modify that to add "meaningful", I accept your premise.
Since Tucker was injured this year, I wonder if he has another year of eligibility, and will follow dad to IU.

Most everyone is out except Seth and Ian. Would like to see them, along with JWash hit the bench too. But no starters in.

Auburn having aTm as the #4 seed on their side of the bracket is a terrible, terrible draw for Auburn. Auburn split with aTm this year but got absolutely punked on the boards both games. That game is a complete toss up.

NC State hires Will Wade. Probably instantly becomes the best coach in the acc.
What? If that was true, he wouldn't be going to NC State. They're not exactly a flagship school for basketball.
What has he actually accomplished? He had one good season at LSU, got bounced due to NCAA issues, and had some decent success at a few mid majors. He has one S16 appearance. He couldn't even bother to wait until his team had finished the NCAAT before it was officially announced, though I know it's been rumored for a while. The guy doesn't seem to have much integrity. He'll be perfect for State.

SDSU was absolute garbage last night. Worst game I've seen them play in years (loss to Syracuse in the 1st round a few years back comes to mind) but I have to give UNC credit. Tarheels defense was excellent and their shooting was amazing. Normally the Aztec D will keep them in a game even when their offense stinks (which happens a lot) but the UNC guards were too quick and when they drove and kicked out the 3's were raining down. It would have been nice to have Lamont Butler this year but NIL is what it is and mid majors are going to have to figure out how to deal with it. Rumor is 7' Gwath is going to seek greener pastures. It sucks watching a freshman develop and then leave but I think it's the new normal.
Perennially underrated.
ACC does seem to really over perform every year in March lately. NC State making a final four last year was really the icing on that wtf cake
UVA is as close as the B1G has come to winning a ship in 25 years.
I guess if a team that just played #1 to the buzzer is in the First Four, it's bad news for the other three. Let's file that for safe keeping.
