Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa

His mode with me is, “What can I do to smear his perceived social standing so I can keep him the category of someone I don’t need to treat with good faith.”
It’s just like with D2 and others here.
I agree that he has a sense of humor and can take a punch. His empathy often takes the form of "love the sinner, hate the sin," which can be very, very hard to swallow. That said, I'm sure that lagtight is capable of kindness. I seem to recall that he had some sort of dramatic religious conversion as a young adult. I don't think he grew up evangelical. I'm sure that he wou
I don't understand how anyone can really believe in Christianity and not be a street preacher or something like that. According to them our lives are short, judgement is for eternity, and you're supposed to love everyone. How can you just sit back and watch everyone go to hell (so you supposedly believe) because you have other stuff to do during this blip of life on Earth?

Who is "he"? I've never seen you interact with lagtight.
Also, none of us know anything about your social standing. You could be on the board of the NY Philharmonic for all I know.
Wtf are you even talking about? I've never even looked at politics on reddit, nevermind some infamously extreme rtard show
It's all your fault I shared the street preacher tweet BTW. Now I'm an immortal avatar for whatever objectionable views the tweeter had
My apologies. I confused you with Mongidig.

My friends call me d2. You can call me "Mr. e4".
Also, I assure you that your social standing, perceived or otherwise, doesn't need lagtight (or anyone else here, truth be told) to smear it.
That's a callback. I don't want anyone not getting my posts. Did anyone (everyone) get my Shooting an Elephant point?....ok, remind myself that hardly anyone reads my posts (or anyone else's).
Oh boy, you should google Chick Tracts, you're in for a real treat. They're all of the charming religious fundamentalism of a Lagtight post, but about 60% less focused on calling my gay/queer friends degenerate perverts. I encountered one in the wild on the pullup machine at my gym a few years ago.

I looked it up but I still didn't get the reference. Something about colonialism. Figured I was just being a bit thick and a philistine.
What's a pullup machine?
That's just a joke. I know what it is.

It's like the best essay ever written period. Please read it.
Get to why Orwell shot the elephant and my point is that I think that's very similar to why *some* mods ban people.
I would interested to see lagtight and craig in a room together. Both are religious, and both seem to have an attachment to religion that is highly personal rather than institutional, but that's where the similarities end.
See Religion subforum.
lagtight tries to support his beliefs using empirical evidence and logic. And when he gets to a point where he can't support his beliefs through empirical evidence and logic, he fills in the blanks by channeling his inner George Michael and singing "you gotta have faith!"
This is a fair representation
craig seems to embrace some highly personal variant of Christian mysticism that is barely attached at all to Western rationalism.
Your guess is as good as anybody else's. The guy has like a gazillion posts and I still can't figure him out.
You should try to understand people you disagree with, but if you never come to the conclusion that you disagree with them because they're just *******s you're just using no judgement, not good judgement.
There's no obligation to try to understand. It's just that generosity is usually required for communication.
Nothing wrong with concluding they're *********s you - I do it too but it's a conclusion that way too easy so we should be wary of it. We dont have to reach a conclusion on them to decide not to continue.

Back to wookie again I see. They (non-preaching Christians) are fully aware of what hypocrites they are which is why they react so strongly when reminded of it.

I just looked it up, and yeah, that's pretty wild. I wonder if it is more of a West coast thing.

As usual, I have no idea what you're talking about. (And I suspect nobody else does either.)

Orwell said he only shot the elephant to avoid looking a fool, because the crowd were all standing there expecting him to shoot it, even though it had calmed down and probably wasn't dangerous any more.
