There's an a6 shadowfax which probably gets it if they know it, but I kinda doubt they will.

A9 might be best? Still a long shot but it has a chance.

If you have anything that could actually get them to guess this then it’s worth a shot, even if likely shadowfax

I'm actually liking a9 the more I think about it. Gets in the vicinity and they should know what it is at least.

Shadowfax a6 is in the first paragraph of the wiki page, so you can tell me if you think it's worth going for.

Sounds like it could be the name of Gandalf's watering can

Aubergine is eggplant, but it obviously can’t be that straightforward.

Eggplant is a nightshade, and this clue “gets us in the vicinity.” Tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers are also nightshades.

We’ve had pepper before, so it can’t be that.

So far the only a6 coming to mind that could fit is acidic, but that wouldn’t be a shadowfax to get tomato, just a word that could describe a tomato.

Will keep thinking.

side note: i was thinking the A9 was gonna be asparagus. close!
