Folding Big Pocket Pair Pre-Flop

Hello,

I am a winning live cash player in the long run, but never cashed in a live tournament ever. However, I only play one tourney every summer, where I play with no pressure, with essentially 'play money chips,' just to have fun.

However, one hand I played this summer really stuck with. Every player told I made the wrong fold, so I assume it was.

The blinds were 1,000/2,000, early into the tournament. I am in early position with QQ, I have 132,000 and made it 6,000. Middle position makes it 15,000, then one of the blinds makes it 60,000. I was thinking between jam or fold, as I didn't think there was room for much of a post-flop play. One player has a little less than me, the 4-better in the blind is a big stack, covers me. I ended up deciding ot fold.

There was an all-in and a call after, then i told everyone what I folded. Middle position had AQ and the blind had AK. There was also the last remaining Queen on the flop...

Was all-in the correct play from me?

Stack of 4bet guy was below or above 200k?

In a normal tournament I jam. In a senior tournament I fold.

It's read dependent. I'd usually go with it but if the 4 bettor in particular is tight folding is viable too.

I played this hand a while back, so I'm not too sure. I made some quick notes after I got back home. My guess is over 200K.

we're indifferent between jamming and folding QQ

when MP has as many 3betfolds as below (even though he appears to have 3betcalled AQ, I still think he's 3betting less and ofc wouldn't call our jam)

aaand, much more crucial, when BB has as many 4betfolds as below (which he's not going to have) and 4betcalls like JJ and TT that we dominate, but I doubt he's going to 4bet TT.

hence it becomes a clear fold in a more general situation - add on top of that BB's massive 4betsizing and it's even more so.

good fold.

you can go with AA and KK and I think AKs is also ok.

With no reads I’m jamming QQ there almost always. Only way I’d ever fold is if the 4-bettor is a super nit who only shows up with KK+. In most spots it’s too strong to let go, especially that deep.

if you wanted to make a case for jamming queens,

instead of lining out what is the opposite in above solution:

the 4bettor does have 4betfolds and 4betcalls beyond AA and KK,

you may have leaned on something like

"that massive 4betsizing is often AK"

or

"the 3bettor may join the party with JJ" and so on

It is kind of a close spot. For a cash player, in a 2/5 game, or even more at lower stakes than that, there isn't so much 3-betting, and a cold 4-bet tends to be AA/KK. It is different in tournaments.

It's a population play but download PPT and play around with equities. For example QQ vs JJ+,AK is 47%, take away JJ and now you're 40%. QQ vs AK,QQ+,AQ you're still only 46% as there's not many aq combos. I think this is a clear fold - you'd need him 4betting 99/TT to get this in and that's prob not realistic. With your stack I'm not looking to take marginal ev spots.
