That's right. I didn't get this song from the (brief) intro, though.Saw a good documentary on Woodstock the other day. Lucky there wasn't some mass electrocution during the storm.

Should always immediately be followed by.

So I am a ballcapaholic. Probably not a real word πŸ˜€ But being folically challenged (ie bald) I wear a lot of ball caps. My collection is probably 300+. Anyway since it is football season I have starting dipping into my Bears collection. Today I grabbed a 2005 NFC North Championship hat. And I thought to myself DAMN! Thats 20 years ago and the last time they made it to the Superbowl. Then I thought hey, before that the only other Superbowl was the triumphant 1985 Bears.

Hmmmm? That means every 20 year the Bears go to the Superbowl! And guess what year this is πŸ˜€ It's practically a lock! Even if you go back to 1965 they didn't have a Superbowl yet but the Bears were 9-5 that year which would have put them in the playoffs where they easily would have advanced to the Superbowl had it and playoff football been invented.

Happy Friday and happy football season may all our rooting interests, bets, futures and fantasy players give us some enjoyment this season!

You count by the year in which the season started?

Yes. It goes by season.

A good trivia question is what’s the earliest a Super Bowl was played. Without looking IIRC it was

XI Raiders-Vikings.

I was born in 1965 and mentioned the last non SB seasons in the birth year thread. Bears had the fourth best record but got hosed due to the wacky geography; Baltimore in the West, Dallas in the East.

The last old school season, 14 games, 14 teams, every one playing in muddy ballparks or college bowls. Not a glamorous year historically, but definitely the last head in the sand/ fingers in your ears year for the John Wayne generation.

I remember watching the first superbowl (1967) KC vs GB. Stram vs. Lombardi. Dawson vs. Starr. That was football. A normal noon Sunday game with no pre game hoopla. It was wonderful! A shame to see what it has become.

Every year I love watching the NFL Films of the Super Bowls through Steelers-Rams. If the Namath finger signaled the beginning of a new era, the Bradshaw rainbow to Stallworth was the perfect cap on the first period of it.

When I teach Romantic Comedy, I tell my students that The Kinsey Report on female sexuality is published as is Playboy. Everest was conquered by Hillary and Norgay. And I was born.

How these events are related I leave up to them.

Marcus Lattimore

one of the best to EVER tote a footbawl in his palm

Ha! Neither, thankfully. Just not online much these days.

Wtf happened to the strat sections? Oof, sad.

I have maybe the oddest writing class ever with two trans students, a former professional ballerina, and a Russian woman who told me she might intimidate other students.

I'm looking forward to reading their papers.

Apology for Old Clothes

Cerulean tweed jacket, twenty years old, that blueprints
the pitch of my shoulders...Cardigan out at the elbows-
comfortable, unkempt,
familiar as memory's attic after fifty years of collecting...
I wear a shabby house,
as the lazy turtle does, disreputable and easy, dozing
in mud all winter.

surreal description of being classified somewhere between draughtsman for hire and dropcloth
your desk barely forward of the nasally amonia jolt persistantly burping from the blueprint machine
propped up all day on your elbows mindlessly tracing rectanglular templates with circular lead

I missed that first Super Bowl because I was visiting the jungles of South Vietam trying to kill the VC before they killed me.

Looks like I won!

those diazo machines used to drive me crazy

one early job in an actual office setting included replicating multiple sets of what we called squats
imagine how a mascot might do a push up for every point the football team scores
bruh, now reproduce and convert that reflexive brain movement into the number of six square feet each sheets of paper waved from your wrists
then sorted and bound several times over to achieve the quantities required by your local authority having jurisdiction
and the only horizontal surface large enough to fit it all was the floor

My colleagues are planning a retirement party for a long time member of the English Department. They told me it's going to be on Dec. 9 for dinner and then going to see Earth, Wind, and Fire.

Every year I send an email to the entire department to remind them that "Dancing in September" is the official English Department theme song. (Yeah, they're used to me.)

I told them I couldn't go because my daughter had already bought tickets to go a couple months ago.

You know if you're going to have a daughter, have one like mine. I love that kid.
