USA Goes to War Against Iran

Time for a dedicated thread to the war.

How long will it last and what will be the probable outcome?

weird thing to say when your peeps opened the war by double tapping a girls school. every accusation...

ya man, Im not a pacifist. smoking Imperialist stormtroopers that slaughter schoolchildren is fine with me. even if those stormtroopers are just doing it to buy a Dodge Charger and get through College.

What you consider to be an imperialist stormtrooper would pretty much be any American or Israeli.

Baby killers.

Thousands in Iran Attend Burial of Child...

There were students attending classes at the time that the school was destroyed. Some 175 people were killed by the attack on the girls’ elementary school.

I dunno, they look like soldiers to me

Does that mean that you would be against American citizens and Israeli citizens being killed? Because you were pretty in favor of Oct 7.

Israel should not have killed their own citizens on Oct 7th. I have always been very against the Hannibal doctrine.

Where's the line between that along with the rest you stated and a conspiracy theory?

Occam's razor tells me this is just state interests at play. Not saying there aren’t a bunch of correlates that factor in, but they’re not the primary cause of our involvement.

If you get rid of them, then who will defend you from all the people out there that will kill you for a whole host of reasons? I assume you'd have your own soldiers.

Ah so the evil American Zionists are actually Christians who are mind controlled by the Jews. Well when you put it that way it doesn’t sound antisemitic at all.

The thought is that they aren't brainwashed but wanting to return to Jerusalem for the Rapture

Its probably just trumps interests

The conspiracy is that Republicans in the government are largely evangelical Christians who think Trump is some vehicle for the Rapture, which may or may not mean hes the anti christ

This, and the fact that the AIPAC donates tons of money to both sides, makes it appear like Israel has an oversized influence over our government. Which they probably do. I assume this works out very well for them, which also plays into the trope.

Bro, that was an Iranian missile that fell out of the sky.

I wasn't going to follow much of the news about it, but the schoolgirl thing can't be tuned out. I haven't heard much detail about it -- errant missile or bad intel I presume? -- but my first reaction was that's the end of the hope for peace for about 100 years. It seemingly has to ignite another round of peak hatred in the populous, and everything that brings with it. Just tragedy with no upside.

But Hamas kidnapping a 4 year old and 9 month old, nothing to say, right?

I didn't say anything about mind control by Jews.

Wait are you saying that I'm saying because Jesus was a Jew and the Christian Zionists are mind controlled by Jesus that Christian Zionists are therefore mind controlled by Jews?

I wouldn't presume it was a mistake. Doesn't matter much if I missed it, but I haven't heard an apology. I think this is the Epstein class reasserting itself, killing kids. Killing kids is a big thing for them.

I think Israel and their dog, the U.S., wanted to send a message up front that they are not playing by anything remotely like rules. They are reminding the Iranians of their moral limitations, like their religious edict against nuclear weapons or their refusal to retaliate in kind when Iraq used chemical weapons against them once upon a time. And why wouldn't they feel empowered to be as evil as they want to be? We've committed a genocide and no one is being punished or even criticized in the media for it. This is us now until someone stops us. We are the U.S. and we kill children and go on with our day like it didn't happen.

I agree they have an oversized influence over our government. But so too does Ukraine or Britain in ww2., etc. The US has a lot of guns and money. So if they're in a war or hot zone of course they would want our support, who wouldn't.

But your hypothesis is testable. I'm thinking this will wind down sooner rather than later because that makes the most geopolitical sense to me. So if it keeps escalating until Jesus comes back, I'll know I missed something. On the other hand, if it winds down we'll know the Rapture crowd or Israel doesn't have much sway over Trump. Could get interesting between Trump and the former if he tries to block the Second Coming by establishing peace in the ME.

The school was 500m from the IRGC base and the building used to be part of it before it was converted to a school -- 500m from a high value military target. Not too hard to figure out.

This is the one instant where Trump is doing something he thinks is right? I don't think "men in women's sports" goes against his stated beliefs, or ICE in the streets or immigration or crime? He's obviously going to pander to his base when he can, more so when he's constrained by the need to please voters for a reelection but he can just frame it as what he thinks is right ra

Yes, but in those instances, what he thinks is right polls well.

Why, in this one specific instance, is he he doing something for moral reasons that polls terribly?

by Rococo m

No country really cares about international law, but I suspect that you are correct on this point.

And it's debatable (and in fact is debated among political science academics) whether or not 'international law' is even a valid concept.

by Rococo m

Also, I didn't need to watch a viral video to know that sort of thing was going on. There have been Israeli settlers pushing into the West Bank for as long as I can remember, and it has always been morally objectionable imo.I don't have anything against John Oliver or people who watch his show. The clips I have seen are funny. Some of them are very funny. I just don't watch

I enjoy and Maher and sometimes Jon Stewart. Colbert I used to like. I enjoyed Rachel Maddow when she interviewed Peter Tork.

Norm MacDonald had an hysterical joke about The View, but Crossnerd [strike]might temp-ban me[/strike] will for sure perma me if I quote it.

Tariffs didn't poll well.

by coordi m

John Stewart is (was?) leagues above any of the other people mentioned

Maher > Stewart imo.

by John21 m

I think the sole reason Trump ran as Rep instead of Dem is because he thought that was his best shot at winning.

THIS!!!

by checkraisdraw m

What about walking your dog in the middle of the street?

It's okay as long as the cars have ditches to swerve into.

by geezerchess m

Maher > Stewart imo.

Some would maybe say this is a hot take but it's just terrible
