POG Politics Thread Version 3
Come on in! Since Dustin is taking his ball and going home, it's time to start a new politics thread.
Also, the Strait is open. France just went through.
So the next thing that has to happen is Trump will close it again.
"war criminal white supremacist" is a pretty fitting desicriptor for USA as a country
the world we live in is just unbelievably insane.
most americans are patriotic and think america is a great country. it's literally founded on genocide and slavery and unapologetic about it. these constant wars are just mind blowing.
executions in the streets by masked men
kidnapping presidents to steal their oil
cops regularly murdering people
working 40 hours a week doing something you hate, and is pointless
billionaires with yachts and jets, while others starve
polluting the planet to death
having to say "thank you for your service" to war criminals. might as well be saying heil hitler
people dying cuz they can't afford healthcare, while healthcare execs literally have golden forks and spoons on their private jets
im typing out this rant on a laptop made by sweatshop labor
Trump just buried Vance.
Called him the Fraud Czar and said the bar for his success was balancing the national budget [emoji1787]
Good luck ass hole!
Well well well, look who's busy saving the planet.
People with an open field.
now listening to:
Hayek's Bastards by Quin Slobodian
exploring neoliberalism's turn to ethno-populism
kicks off with the fall of USSR and the neolib response shifting to new bogeymen: climate activism, cultural diversity, and civil rights
green is the new red (obvious color blindness quip so far not offered)
I have a very nice amount of tequila, lime and salt(and some wendy's) in me! woo hoo... that earlier rant post I made I was stone sober. probably why I was so out of my mind.
makes me think of that episode of WKRP in cincinnatti when that dj Johnny whatever is getting his reaction time tested on air as he drinks to promote sober driving, but his reaction time gets better the more he drinks
and mark! my gf said she saved us 12 dollars at wendy's. I always just let her order, otherwise I'm just ordering whatever and paying like 3x what I should
I lost Ivanhoe somewhere, somehow, right in the middle of some fun jousting
much enjoyed the Saxon protestation against Norman domination underlying the narrative
the Jewish character was precariously situated, really need to see how that pans out... no spoilers please!
anyway Amp's rec arrived just in time - Meditations on the Tarot. really enjoying so far, thanks so much! I wish I had this 15 years ago...
picked up some Kafka stories, but damn those need some spacing between
In The Penal Colony is going to simmer for a good little while
In the Penal Colony is the Kafka story I always recommend to people when they don't know what to read from him.
I never tried to read Ivanhoe but I haven't heard good things.
oh ****! i never heard of "in the penal colony"! im excited to read! well, listen... cuz i can't read cuz the internet ruined my attention span
"Your friend greets you, dear Unknown Friend from beyond the grave."
oh ****! i never heard of "in the penal colony"! im excited to read! well, listen... cuz i can't read cuz the internet ruined my attention span
it takes a good bit of willpower to bury the phone somewhere, but after a couple pages the corner becomes a nice little home
glass of water to sip after a good passage
the problem is that it turns moving world into a complete monster
anyone who votes for Dems supports genocide. well at least you're voting for politicians who do genocide
You're not allowed to follow people around and harass them for voting for Kamala please self ban for 17 minutes.
sorry eyebooger
fwiw i think highly of you. we all have our flaws. i'm clinically insane. you vote for dems.
all my favorite people are deeply flawed
I voted for W twice, so I've been put on a voting improvement plan.
why against Gore?
I was in high school when Gore ran for president, and my recollection was mostly just that he was a climate advocate, but reading now... damn, yo.
The term was initially used in 1982 for Democratic politicians' focus on investing in high tech industries over sunset industries, primarily Gary Hart, Bill Bradley, Michael Dukakis, Al Gore, Paul Tsongas, and Tim Wirth.[2] The New York Times discussed a generation gap that developed during the 1980s between older liberals who maintained an interest in traditional visions of social liberalism, and the Atari Democrats who attempted to find a middle ground. The Atari Democrats advocated for free markets, neo-liberalism, and for market forces being better able to offer solutions to environmental problems than actual regulations.
The 80's being the era of cyberpunk makes more sense now.
I read all the literature and finally got to Mises Human Action and at the heart of everything was...a tautology.
This made the whole exercise, what, analytical. Whereas it had always been presented as praxis or praxeology or whatever spell they were casting. So I lost intellectual respect.
I actually reasoned myself out of Libertarianism. Ship it!
