2.5 BB and above average stack haha....GLIR

Congrats on making the final table. Crazy blind increases.

I probably would have shoved the A-T suited from late position. That was on the stone bubble? What was the min-cash?

Congrats on making the money! Very happy to hear Trey McBride was cool. Big fan and he won me my fantasy football league! Did you ever figure out who the random celeb you helped out with the flush was?

go go go

so from a few pages ago, Leon posted this

"80 runners, all at the final table get paid, 1st is 250k and 10th is 10k".

Guessing the add ons and rebuys didn't increase the prize pool, so guessing something like.....250, 150, 110, 83, 63, 46, 32, 20, 10, 10?? although given it was funded by Wynn, maybe 2nd to 8th are shallower than that and it's all near the top?

Final table with no one having >5BBs. If that wasn't suboptimal enough, you're against people to whom the prize money likely matters little to not at all, and who are not smart enough to know when to make correct decisions, so there probably are no "scared money" players to abuse. I can think of as many positives as negatives. My hope remains that Leon would not prolong this as much as he has if it didn't turn out well.

The A10 hand was with 12? players left. Final table was the bubble, nothing for 11th.

The paytable was- 10-7th = 10k, 6th 15k, 5th 20k, 4th 30k, 3rd 50k, 2nd 100 and 1st 250k. Since everyone was so short the bubble was definitely going to burst at any point (I was actually surprised it lasted as long as it did). I figured since both the SB and BB could really hurt me if I called and lost, but picking up 150k chips would have only added 1.5BB, there was zero point in raising with the A10. I would have gone from 8BB to 9.5. Definitely a weird spot that probably never comes up in a real tournament bubble- there were literally no healthy stacks relative to the blinds, and half the field had about 1BB. Thanks for the comments though.

The random celeb was the C-something O of 8AM golf which sponsored the event. So he's a businessman but treated like a celeb for the purposes of the tourney πŸ˜€

A bit of googling led to some answers to these questions guys.

For those that can't wait for leon's excellently written updates, the event is called the 8 AM Invitational.

Yes it should be obv but if I could somehow play against this field with a decent blind structure it would have been the best set up in existence. My one regret is that it was a given the final table was always going to be a luck/shovefest. As I was trying to explain to my mom, when a bad player and you would make the same decisions, it all comes down to luck.

Funny I saw the post on Instagram randomly but didn’t realise it was that tourney.

Spoiler alert do not click if you don’t want to see results:

I will not be spoiled.
But hurry up Leon!

The suspense is killing me. So much fun to follow along. Thanks, leon!

Refuse to be spoiled.

Riding the TR raw and uncut!

I'm also resisting the urge to click on the results, but temptation is growing by the second! In the meantime, can someone remind me what the prize structure was? I know Leon said it was "500k tournament" but how many were paid, and how much?

Leon said it a few replies up:

10-7th: 10k
6th: 15k
5th: 20k
4th: 30k
3rd: 50k
2nd: 100k
1st: 250k

I have 2.5BB LOL. I actually think I have an above avg stack and there isn't a stack above 5BB. Let the shovefest commence!

Final table coming soon...

This made me laugh. What a hilarious structure!

I'm enjoying this report very much, and I cannot wait for the next part. Go get 'em, Past Leon!

Final table

Blinds are 200/400k. There are two NFL guys as far as I can tell, Phelps' wife, and I think the rest of the players are just regular folk like me. I've got 500k and several other players don't even have 1BB! Case in point, Phelps' wife with 10k lol.

We draw for the button...

I'm the button!!!!

Absolutely, amazingly huge for me. The SB is a donk, BB is too from what I could see. I played with SB quite a bit at my last table- he's not entirely clueless in that he knew to tank as we got close to the bubble, but ALSO tanked even after we were hand for hand. There was nothing about his play that made me think he's anything better than mediocre. BB was all in with the worst hand on the other table, but drew out. None of the tabled hands were quality and I don't know the action so who knows what happened. Of course, this is going to be a (very short) card catching contest so it's anyone's game.

First hand- SB can't even cover the SB. Folds around and BB busts him. Down to 9!

Second hand- Massive hand here. Guy next to me moves all in, SB calls, BB (covers both) calls!

Flop- KJx. Bet, call.
Turn- KJx A. Check check.
River- KJxA 10. Bet all in, call all in!

SB- KQ, BB JQ, guy next to me 1010!!!!

Wow. So SB and BB end up chopping, we're down to 8.

Third hand- Phelps' wife is all in in the BB. Button calls, SB calls.

Flop- Jxx. Check bet fold. SB has 1010, Phelps' wife has AA!

Turn- 10! Twice this guy has completely caught up with one of the two remaining 10s in the deck. River is no help and Phelps' wife is out. SB has a massive stack now. We're down to 7.

4th hand- can't remember the action specifically, but we lost two more players. The only people picking up chips are the two guys to my left. At least we've survived two pay jumps! So sick- I'm just getting dealt rags but we literally are losing a player every hand.

I'm in the BB now- I have to post 400k out of a 500k stack. Honestly I don't even have to look at my cards, but I still do (I have to give D a sweat as well). Paint... that's good... K... 10 offsuit. Could be way worse, I suppose.

Guy just to my left (one of the chip leaders) raises. Folds to me... I stick it in. We table our hands. He's got-

KJo. Uh oh.

Man I need some help. I'm acutely aware I've run good to even make it to this point, I've outlasted 5 people at this table simply by virtue of a good button draw. Can I get just a little more??!

Flop is no help, no draw for me either. Turn- a soul-crushing jack. The MC is giving us a play-by-play, but he doesn't really understand the game bc he says "Leon needs a 10 on the river..." while I'm already picking up my stuff. Drawing dead is drawing dead, even if most of the people don't even know what that is.

Sigh.

OK, handshakes all around. I sign what I assume will be a picture-frame for the winner and they ask me how I want to be paid, freeplay credit or chips. I did really want the chips, it would have been fun to play craps with D and bet the chips, maybe go on a run. Unfortunately, they couldn't tell me what the denom would be (the last time I won 8k in free chips, they gave me a 5k and 3 1k chips WTF. I returned them for free credit bc just too much chance I don't get enough play out of those) so I just took the free credit as usual.

D and I walked out, and we overheard on the very next hand both 4th and 3rd busted. Man... so close. If I could have just survived my BB...

I'm definitely really happy with the result, all things considered. I recognize how lucky it (always) is to make it that far, no matter how soft the field. I certainly won my fair share of coin flips, had a decent amount of premiums dealt at the right time, and got a great button draw... just need that last little bit of luck. So I'm sure you all understand how I was also disappointed. As I said before, I don't know how I got an invite to this thing in the first place, and you could run this scenario 100 times and I may never get this far again. Argh! So close.

Overall of course, I'm very happy with the result, and I'm glad I came. It was a very well-done event and hanging out and playing with the celebs was actually very cool. And of course, there's this-

With the 5k addon, I'm STILL stuck for the trip! Plus, I owe my friend J who came in for a piece. So I'm ALMOST even, but not quite. Still a lot better than before this tournament. Can't believe how cold the machines and tables continue to be.

The eventual winner is this guy-

Kyle Juszczyk. This was posted on X, apparently. He's the guy that got bailed out by a 10 twice. The fanboys are all "The rich get richer!". I'm just sitting here, could I catch a 10 one time?

I'm so amped up from the tourney. Wide awake and it's almost 1am. You know what that means...

More coming soon...

Oooof. Not just the cooler, but the fact that you just missed laddering up. When you said you had the button I was sure you'd crush it. But not getting a hand in seven tries, plus others picking up cards, is tough to beat. Thanks for the suspense.

Nice run, thanks for sharing. Of all the NFL celebrities, he is probably the least wealthy (at least from an NFL contract standpoint).

Well done! I’m really curious to read about how you converted the 20k, what game and what the result was

Nice job! It's hard to go deep, no matter what. Even when it's all a luck fest at the end. But sure would've been nice to win one hand and possibly get 2nd+ locked up.

I really hope the trip turns around on this cash

Nice hit, Juice probably needs to supplement the retirement fund as 34 is pretty long in the tooth for NFL players, and FBs don't garner the big contracts (he does have the Harvard education and the wife's clothing line to fall back on, I guess lol)

I'll be fairly certain he'll be just fine financially. He's earned a good amount and those San Francisco guys are getting access to all kinds of early stage investment opportunities from Silicon Valley.
