MTT Low Stakes Grind Journal
Hey everyone!
I've been grinding low stakes MTTs recently, trying to improve on my game, and I thought it would be a goo
No luck in the Weekender today, still got another ticket so will give Day 1 a spin on Saturday probably
BR standing: $2, 953.99
Daily change: +$49.88
Nice little profit day, essentially break even. A few Hypers near the end of the day helped to push my slightly up. Generally pleased with how I played today again, however tomorrow I will spend some time analysing hands that I've starred on PokerCraft as I've got quite a few logged.
BR standing: $2, 728.48

Relatively low volume day today, stopped at around 4pm as the heat today was a bit unbearable lol. Only 2 min cashes today, hence the shite result.
Will be taking tomorrow off, but hoping to have a big day on Sunday with the GGMasters tourney I've signed up for, and hopefully getting into the Weekender day 2.
I'm back!
Haven't posted in a while since I think the forum was down for a couple days. Haven't had much to report over the past days anyway, just general slightly low / break even days.
BR is currently sitting at $2, 470.62 and I'm hoping to try and spin it back up soon.
I've also bought a subscription to Hand2Note using $18 from my BR, and I've only managed to upload my last 3 months of data from it. I'll continue to import my hands and I'll post some stats from it here in the future!
Interesting and important spot to analyse!

15bb effective, LJ (villain) raises 2bb, BB (hero) calls.
Flop comes AsAc6c, hero checks and villain bets 1.1bb. What am I supposed to do?
Essentially, either raise (20%) or fold! What do I get to raise? Essentially all Ax, all club flush draws, and pairs of 6s IF they have a backdoor flush draw (e.g. 6h5c or 6s5s).
The reason I'm highlighting this hand is because I would've called with any pair of 6 in this spot.

Decent day today! Although the BR is essentially break even, I managed to qualify for Day 2 of the Weekender for this Sunday which is great! I'll only be starting with a pretty small stack but obviously I will be trying my best to spin it up.
Only FT of the day was the final tournament I played, managing a nice 3rd place in the Daily Turbo $10!

Finishing early on a slightly negative day. I think the heat is getting me a bit frustrated lol.
Happy with how I've played again - I seem to be continuously having deep runs in the Hyper tourneys, and I'm hoping that I can get a really solid finish in one of them soon. I'm always seemingly missing out on just the final hurdle.
I also had a deepish run in the $5.50 Fifty Stack tourney but got busted out around 20th.
I think the heat will be getting better in the coming days (I'm begging it does).

Another pretty wank day. Decent volume, but only managed a single min cash in a $2 tourney and then this result from my last tourney of the day:

Got unlucky jamming KTo into AQo at the end. I keep on getting so close in these Hyper tournaments, and it's so frustrating not being able to get over that final hurdle. I'll keep at em though, since I think I've got a pretty strong edge in them.

Only FT from today. 3rd is good but I just can't hide my frustration - KK (h) vs AJo and they river a straight. I feel like I've been losing so many big all ins as a favourite when they matter the most, and it's really starting to get to me.
Currently playing in the Weekender but once that's done, I'm going to finish for today.

Another disappointing day. I don't think I'm making major mistakes, maybe minor ones? But to be honest, it just feels like things having been going my way recently.
Had the good result in the Daily Turbo Deepstack, and only min cashed the Weekender for around $90.
And what better way to end the day than with another win!

This is probably my most insane win to date and here's why - from being gifted 2nd place against 2 massive stacks and another shorty:

To having my biggest comeback of all time heads up to win as a 10x underdog - starting with 10bb against 97bb:

I'm especially happy with how I played heads up. I recently looked into a bit of heads up theory, particularly how wide of an opening range I should have, since I've never really played much heads up poker. I exploited my opponent well, by min raising 90% of my hands from the button as my opponent was overfolding. Winning lots of small pots, and hitting top set in the final hand helped to secure my victory.

A very solid day, thanks to two 1st place finishes in small sized tourneys. Happy to be back with a substantial profit, and hoping to keep the positive results coming.
BR standing: $2, 540.26
Daily change: +$31.73
Slightly profitable day today and nothing crazy to report. A couple FTs and min cashes but tbh, didn't really play all that much. Thought I played well and I feel like I'm making less mistakes in general - e.g. calling down with marginal hands against players who literally are never bluffing.
Spot just happened from my in-person tourney:
Effective stack 20bb
HJ limps
SB calls
Hero BB with KQs raises to 3.5bb
HJ jams
SB folds
I haven't really looked into how to deal with limpers when short-ish stacked, so this is a reminder for myself to look into this further 😀

Once again, chip leader shoves 88, I call TT, and rivers an 8.
Also frustrated because GG's system of determining who is the first person to min cash has been confusing me - I've been waiting to see if a person busts out on the same hand as me on a different table on the stone bubble, and then going all in afterwards. For whatever reason, I then bust and don't get min cash. I'm just gonna start folding until it's confirmed I'm ITM because it's happened twice now.

Seems bad. Vs loose live players, that raise isn't accomplishing anything except getting you to the flop, maybe, with a 2:1 SPR, out of position, vs an effectively uncapped range. Vs players who are super loose and aren't paying attention, just play tight and aggressive and capitalize on their massive mistakes.

Are you talking about hand for hand? If multiple people bust during hand for hand, the person with the lowest chip stack to start the hand gets the lowest position.

That's fair enough - I ran the spot through GTOW and it suggests that I should just be shoving in that spot to steal the blinds which is pretty reasonable. The reason I went for a raise as opposed to a shove is due to the fact my hand was suited and would have better playability post flop - if I had KQo I think I would've been more inclined to just jam myself.

Yeah I was talking about hand for hand - now that you put it as 'hand to hand' that makes more sense. I assumed that whoever makes it ITM would be the last person to bust, like how pay jumps happen after the bubble has burst but there's still multiple tables. Thanks for clarifying!
