Why give in real time when you can give after?

Is VAR the same as hockey/football where its call on the field stands unless clear and uncontroversial?

yea and the VAR decision stands unless your president is Trump

Spaces are quite big, this should be a fun one

We might have got full lift off if Brazil had scored that pen, hopefully there's a goal soon.

I wish I could see the stats, but given the critical value of a penalty - it is crazy to me that so many of those penalties given are originally non-calls only for the VAR to overturn it. Not exactly glorious for the image of referees nor the fairness of the games pre-VAR

People tend to forget how bad it was pre-var

Yea that miss didnt help the game
Already seems like the tempo is declining

Yep there was so much bs pre var and people seem to think it was a football utopia.

Problem is VAR hasn't stopped the bs, it's just changed the type of bs.

The rare occasions it's implemented correctly by high quality refs its great, but unfortunately that really is a rarity.

Even goal line tech was a game changer. There were many goals we could easily see via replay, but were called no goal on the field.

Ohh odegaard got lucky there

by Cinarocket m

and I suppose all those saying it's not a red are not regular football watchers because these have always been consistently given as red once VAR'd (except Messi cause we can't suspend our superstar)

In league play, I would tend to agree, but the threshold for getting sent off for foul play in this WC has generally been very high

In order to safeguard the legitimate rights of all participating teams and to protect the fundamental principles of fair play in our sport, both at this FIFA World Cup and at future editions of the tournament, the RBFA is investigating all potential options.”

lol, you're going to do absolutely nothing

Agreed. What "options" do they have?

Sorloth as RW looks kinda funny but not in a good way

by 72off m

yeah this is what i'm talking about, this chuck norris i am the goat **** was super played-out cringe like 20 years ago. you never scored in a wc, the pinnacle of your career was scoring a hattrick in a friendly. stfu

Not sure if serious. Guy was a top-5 striker for a decade, league top scorer 5 times in Italy and France, won the league nearly every year, and got as high as 4th in Balon d'Or voting.

You really think the hat-trick vs England is his pinnacle?

They could do an interview with Piers Morgan

They could do an interview with Piers Morgan

LOL. That would teach FIFA a lesson.

What a horrendous penalty from Bruno.

Stop stutter stepping if you're not Neymar. Can't just stop 3 feet early and telegraph that you're stutter stepping. Kills all your momentum for no benefit.

league top scorer 5 times in Italy and France [...] got as high as 4th in Balon d'Or voting.

lol french league, lol peaking at 4th for all the **** he talks in the 3rd person

which guys are even good at generating power on the stutter-step pens? think lewa is, probably a few others ... kind of drawing a blank. most can't though. or do the thing where they read the keeper and pass it where he aint. most guys **** that up too. pretty dumb stuff overall

Who was the first to do this stutter bs? Pogba was doing it 10 years ago at Old Trafford and I think that was around the start of it becoming common.

Either way this meta is annoying cos loads of them do it. Solid lol when it gets punished though.

And can we get an early goal in the 2nd half please. Game needs it. Can't have them deciding to settle for 0-0 to take it to ET at the hydration break.

Yeah Lewa, he kind of does a last second hop without stopping completely.

Hazard was doing it a lot but he was legit eyeing the goalkeeper and waited for him to pick a side before putting it in the other side without looking at the ball, that was the original point

but the idiots now replicate it even though the keepers are not committing - i believe they call it aurafarming in gen z slang

I think Neymar and Hazard, who were really good at it. Then guys like Sergio Ramos, Jorginho, Lewandowski, and Bruno Fernandes. Messi also started doing it, when he joined Neymar at PSG.

Pogba wasn't stutter stepping, he was just slow the entire way.

He won like 20 major trophies and was nominated for the ballon d'ors a hatful of times, that was absolutely not the pinnacle of his career lol

Jorginho always did it as well

I just heard this is the first penalty brazil has missed in a WC game (not shootout) in 40 years
Im pretty sure those went in mostly without any stuttering
