What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.

very impressive!

Had a 41 (par 35) last night, 1 birdie, 1 double bogey.

Chipped in once and lipped out my next chip, that was fun.

got a sim session tomorrow morning, then walking a tournament round Saturday morning to finalize my bag choice for Ireland at the end of next month. That tourney round will be the first of 9 in 10 days, lots of golf, LGLG!

Feeling pretty good. Followed up my new best score with another sub-90 round. 88(42/46) Finished with a triple bogey (ugh) but all in all I'm pretty happy.

For sure! This upcoming stretch of 9 rounds in 10 days doesn’t have anything overly exciting. A tourney, 2 rounds on a work trip, then a long golf weekend for a buddy’s 50th.

Ireland is def very exciting but I have no hyperbole of the golf I will play there. The experience itself will be transcendent, I have no doubt, regardless of strike quality.

Sim session today started awful, and I was able to dig in and fix it, which is a huge thing I’ve improved upon.

what courses will you be playing?

Portmarnock (Old)
Royal Dublin
County Louth
Ardglass (Northern Ireland)
The Island
Jameson Links at Portmarnock

portmarnock is a wild wiki read
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portmarnoc...

as for royal dublin yelp only aggregates as 4.8
seems lacking for a course of such old trophy statues

40-38-78. 2 birdies, no double bogeys, 1 triple bogey. 70.8/134/6328

Was not really expecting my best round of the season and if you'd asked me to predict my score after I made a sloppy, ugly triple bogey on the first hole I probably would not have guessed any number under 100.

Instead I made one minor adjustment to my swing on #2, hit a couple solid shots and it was off to the races. Hit more greens than usual and putted well above average. Just an all around fun day.

Very interesting for sure! Glad they seem to be moving the correct direction.

Tourney went well yesterday. Walked and carried in 90-94 degrees with humidity and didn’t lose energy. Doubled 3 and 4 dude to tee shots, one bad swing and one bad break. Played 5-17 with only pars and bogeys. Made a bad decision and then a bad swing on 18 which is a very tough hole. Ended up making triple but luckily had a 4-shot lead going into it haha. Won my flight and tied for low net across all flights. Shot 88 and putted great, +2 handicap putting per Arccos.

solid stuff Booker

41-44-85. No birdies, 1 double bogey. 70.3/133/6121

Not as sharp today, driver was not my friend. Did a good job of containing the failures to just bogeys.

Birdie on the first hole might have spelled doom for me. Or maybe it was trying to walk in the oppressive heat. Or possibly the nightmarish swarms of mosquitos. Whatever it was, my swing was gone. 97(48/49) I really struggled with everything.

I doused myself with mosquito repellent but it seemed to attract even more. It was like a horror movie. Not a pleasant round of golf.

On another note, I've been trying to work on my lag swing. I've watched a ton of videos and I just can't make it happen. I played with a guy today that really got the club moving fast. I don't know. Maybe I should be happy that (not including today) I've been hitting it pretty straight.

43 (par 36). No birdies, 2 double bogeys.

Hot and very windy, the wind got me twice leading to the double bogeys. One ball to the junk, one to the water.

90(46/44) I felt like I played horribly, but somehow eked out a decent score. I guess I just avoided disaster holes. Lost 3 balls but managed bogey on all three.

Most of my bad shots today were mental errors. Not slowing my backswing, bringing my head up. Missing short putts. The usual.

Some old guy gave me a swing tip. It was solicited, though. He's probably pushing 80 years old and drives it consistently 270/280. I asked him how he gets that kind of distance. His first reply was "I just try to hit it hard." Hehehe. But, he showed me a drill with my left hand only. It felt good. We'll see if it works on the range tomorrow.

Mixed results. I got it to work with my 5 iron. It's normally my 150-155 club. I was getting about 170-175 with it today. Felt good.

I had less success with driver, though. Mostly because I was a little too loosey-goosey and didn't make good contact. Sprayed it everywhere.

I'm encouraged, though.

curious the drill?

by REDeYeS00 m

curious the drill?

He had me just swing with my left hand only, focusing on the club acceleration at the bottom. Then, use that feel with two hands.

I'm extremely right hand dominant and I tend to push and guide with my right hand instead of swinging the club. I've had a 'handsy' swing since I started.

Help! I suck at golf and can't get any better.

Started this Jan and have been taking lessons every other week + playing/practicing 5x a week. There's a serious case to be made that I'm the worst golfer on the planet to have played 100 rounds this year. I broke 100 once and mostly shoot between 103-120 with max double par scores. I feel like I'm putting in a lot of time into this and still not seeing results. On the positive side, at least it's enjoyable, and I'm getting a lot of steps.

What else can I do to improve my game?

You're exactly where I was about 10 months ago. Like, every part of what you said. I feel your pain.

It took me several months to break 100, just like you. Feel free to go back in this thread and see how I've progressed.

I don't have any secret sauce. Just keep grinding. If you are like me, your progress will be incremental. You'll 'discover' things in your swing, or your chipping, or whatever that moves you forward. Actually, you'll be like that frog trying to get out of the well, 3' up, 2' back down. But, you will see progress if you stick with it.

Also, if you have questions about anything, post it here. The guys here are very helpful.

easy to see how that may help
the proper way to move the hands and wrists is in many ways diametrically opposite to bat swinging techniques

92(44/48)

2 triples
6 doubles
3 bogeys
6 pars
1 birdie

Everything felt pretty good. Just a few miscues here and there. Some bad lies. Driver wasn't great, putter getting better. Just need to clean things up.

Still working on distance. Got that lag to work a couple times but not consistent yet.

41-46-87. No birdies, a couple doubles and a smooth closing triple.

Nothing good to report. Try again tomorrow.
