What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)
I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.
Brag: Shot 80 today on my home course (par 72) - I'm a 12 hand
Taking my 22 round sub-100 streak on the road for a tough test - Pasatiempo at noon on Saturday. LFG!
Welp! Will be taking a 0 round sub-100 streak to my next round, but Pasa was truly sublime. What a fantastic golf course. Great walk, but it is a hilly B, got some shin cramps last night afterward!
Drove down to Monterey and saw Pebble today, watched people tee off like 20 yards from me, saw the cliffside holes from across the cove and saw Cypress Point also.
Fun trip!
good luck with breaking 100, but i think you're going to love it either way...please share a trip report with pics if you're so inclinedwonderful Alister MacKenzie course, which he claimed was his favorite layout (he also designed Cypress Point, Augusta National, Royal Melbourne, and Lahinch among many others)one of the guys in my Bandon group is a member and lives just west of
Will give a detailed report and pics when I get home. And ohhhh he is rich rich ahaha.
Played 9 yesterday on 3100 yards, 34.3/124 - 46 +10. 3 doubles, 4 single bogies, 2 pars.
Ball striking was quite good, had no duffs on full swings. Only really bad strike was a partial wedge third shot on a par 5, hit it thin and over the green into hazard from 70 yards leading to one of the doubles. Driver very solid all day. Made a few putts, lost some shots around the greens.
Differential 22.6; moves GHIN from 21.6 to 21.4.
Wasn't going to play today, but the weather is beautiful and I wanted to wash the terrible taste from yesterday out of my mouth.Got paired with a good golfer just getting back into it. He shot 80 with a triple and 2 doubles.Played this course twice so far this year and shot +19 both times. 6200yards 70.3/124+13 85 (44/41) 6/14 fairways. 10/18 greens1 birdie, 7 pars, 7 bogey
Back to where I shot the brutal +29 a few days ago. +18, +19, +25, +21 at this course before that.
+19 (43/47) 4 pars, 9 bogeys and 5 doubles. 8/14 fairways. 4/18 greens. 37 putts. 3 3-putts, 2 1-putts. Driving it very well. Putting is a bit better. Not leaving everything way short now. Ruined several drives with poor approach shots.
Pasatiempo trip report!
Had to go to Santa Cruz for my daughter’s roller derby tourney. Had heard excellent things but the price was exorbitant. Lucky for me, right after the Western Intercollegiate they close the course for four days for maintenance. After that, they offer a significant discount for the next 13 days. I paid $220 to walk and rent a push cart, normally would be $425. The GM assured me it would be very playable and it was indeed! Was cart path only as the main difference, which I didn’t care about. Greens had a light top dressing but rolled plenty pure.

View from 1 tee with the bay in the background. Only a 440y par 4! Hit a decent drive but overdrew and had to punch under trees. Got down in 3 after that for a solid bogey.

3 tee. No prob just a par 3 playing 200+ uphill and into a breeze, surrounded by bunkers with flag tucked on a shelf in the very back. Hit driver and was just left and short of the left bunker. Hit a solid pitch that didn’t quite make the top shelf, came back down to 35 feet and sadly 3 putted.

8 tee with 9 and clubhouse in background. Good: made a sick up and down from the short left bunker. Bad: it was for double. Did have an easy par on 9, the only one of the day ooooof.

15 tee. Apparently McKenzie viewed this and 12 at Augusta as analogues. Came up in fried egg in short leftmost bunker. Hit an excellent out to 9 feet but missed.

View from facing and beside 16 green, one of the most amazing and severe I’ve ever played. Would love to just chip and putt around on this for days.

The rare closing par 3. Thinned my tee shot but jusssssst covered the bunker and released to the middle. Literally no idea how you stop it near the flag tho, had 12 feet back from front edge and couldn’t have done much better.
103, 7 fairways, 2 GIR, 38 putts. Currently have it as my #3 all time course. It was a SOB of a hilly walk, my app said I covered 32 flights. Had cramping on front of my leg just above my ankle that night. I can’t really justify $400+ anywhere but I’d drive a few hours just to play it again at $225 for sure.
awesome report Aces
47-49 = 96 at Fossil Trace GC (69.0/131) from the blue tees at 6200 yards = differential 24.2 yesterday
Course is one of my favorites, started out really strong with a GIR par on the opening par 5, and a GIR 3-putt on the second, short par 4. Third hole, hit a greenside bunker pin high, up and 2 putts for a bogie. 4th hole on this course is a nemisis of mine, with a very challenging tee shot, dead left, large tree on the right side. Hit a drive OB and had to struggle to make a 7. 5th hole is a 100 yard par 3, I pushed a wedge pin high to the fringe and sadly 3-putted from there.
6th hole is a simple uphill par 4. I hit a drive in the hazard, 2nd drive was fine, PW short of green, 3 down from there for a 7.
7th hole is one of my favorites, a short par 4 with a diabolical bunker that is 100 yards long up the hill to the green. Pulled drive, completely topped a 6i 10 yards, hit a 7i which I thought was good but came up just short in the bunker, a bunker shot to a green that's 15 feet above the ball from there, and 2 putts for 6.
8th hole pushed a drive to the fescue which hasn't come in yet this season, ball rolled down to the cartpath, took relief, hit a wedge pin high to a collection area below the green on the left. Hit a ticklish little flop shot with my 46 degree wedge to 4 feet and made the putt. Opponent refused a good/good offer on his 4 footer and missed it.
9th hole is a long par 5, hit fairway, hybrid to right rough, 9i right of green, chip and 2 putts for a simple bogie.
10th hole is a risk reward hole with water on the right of the green that requires 250 to carry. Not feeling it, hit hybrid to fairway, pull/draw PW to hazard over the green, found ball, chipped up, 2 putts, bogie. 11th hole par 3, chunked a 8iron to fescue, found ball, wedge to 10 feet, 2 putts bogie.
12th hole is the signature hole, a par 5 which requires some navigation of rocks in the fairway. I hit fairway with drive but it was a short heely one, hit a 8i short of the main rock, had to play a 6i over the rock and just cleared it greenside, had a 40 yard pitch with pitching wedge, rolled out to 8 feet, 2 putts bogie.
13 is a downhill par 4, hit a 6i off the tee, chunked first approach shot, hit second approach shot to the back fringe, chip and 2 putts is a 6.
14 uphill par 3 playing 170, hit a pure 7i to just left of the green, putter chip and 2 putts = 4
15 par 5, hit a fairway but short drive, absolutely smashed hybrid leaving me 140 yards. Green has a huge collection area off to the right, so I aimed left, it bounced off the hill and rolled all the way accross the green to right fringe, putter chip and 1 putt for par.
16 par 3, completely smother hooked a 9i out of play, 2nd 9i to center of green, 3 putts 6 ugh
17 Par 4, hit a decent drive but it leaked just into the hazard, found ball, hit a wedge but it was short, had to play a flop over a greenside bunker to shortsided about 30 yards. Opened up my 50 and hit what seemed like a good shot but it came up just short in the rough (but over the bunker). Poor chip, 2 putts = 6
18 is a short par 5 with water all down the right side, hit a decent drive in the fairway, decided not to go for green (230 carry over water from there), hit hybrid all the way to the left side and left the face wide open. Ball landed on the fairway 100 yards to pin. Proceeded to hit two chunked 54* wedges directly in the water. Up and down on third wedge for 8.
Overall pretty happy with shot selection. Driver abandoned me, and some low hanging fruit out on the course I didnt pick. Putter rolled nicely and avoided most three putts.
86 (47-39), 6,481 yds, 70.2/124 yesterday for the season opener.
Didn't make a par until 14, at which point I par'd out. Was mostly just happy to be out there and lacked a bunch of focus on the front. Greens were woefully slow, didn't adjust until later.
Played that 73.3/145 course from 7000 yards again today, ball striking was bad. Shot a 123. Differential 36.4. Lost 10 balls. Tough day
46-46-92. No birdies, 5 double bogeys, 1 triple. 69.0/122/6006 yards
Complete and utter ass. No ball striking at all. Had a handful of good pitches but that's about it. Hit about one green in regulation.
Back to where I shot the brutal +29 a few days ago. +18, +19, +25, +21 at this course before that.
+19 43/47) 4 pars, 9 bogeys and 5 doubles. 8/14 fairways. 4/18 greens. 37 putts. 3 3-putts, 2 1-putts. Driving it very well. Putting is a bit better. Not leaving everything way short now. Ruined several drives with poor approach shots.
New course. Par 72 (70.1, 126, 6200 yards)
+27 99 (48/51)
6/14 fairways, 6/18 greens.
3 pars.
Hit 2 drives on par 5s into hazards.
Had 2 whiffs.
0 1-putts
11 3-putts for 47 putts.
Terrible.

+16 (+11/+5) [89, 47/42]
10/15 fairways, 6/18 greens.
Chipped in for birdie on 11 but neither guy I was playing with (both golf coaches) saw it.
2 1-putts. 6 3-putts. 38 putts all day. Left a birdie 1/4 roll short. Still terrible with the putter. Hit the driver brilliantly. Should have been better on the par 5s, but hit all my 2nd shot 5-woods terribly.
Back at it Monday with an old poker buddy.
45-47-92. 1 birdie, 3 double bogeys, 3 triples. 70.3/133/6131 yards.
Insanely inconsistent, but mostly bad. I think I hit every variety of bad shot known to man except for a slice and a hosel rocket. As usual there were a handful of good shots but it's hard to build on anything when you have no swing.
Walked 9 at dawn Saturday on 35.3/132, 3275 yards. Shaking off a hangover from Friday night, skipped the range and went straight to the first tee, and the first three holes were a disaster; started double/8/double, but got my sh*t together on the 4th hole and finished par-bogie-bogie-bogie-bogie-par for a 47. Differential 22.3. GHIN moves to 21.2.
Greens were recently punched and shaggy. Frustrating when a downhill putt slams on the brakes 2 feet from the pin. Obviously I need to adjust to the conditions, but they must've been rolling 8 stimp.
85 (46-39) on 6,119yds, 68.3/124.
Men's opener, started on #14 and was +1 thru 6, then made three doubles on the front. Several poor course management errors partly from an offseason of forgetfulness when playing these tees. Also 37 putts, still not adjusted well to the slower greens to start the year.
Overall extremely happy with how I'm hitting it though and my mental attitude on the course. Feel like I have some good scores around the corner.

+23 (47/47) on a course I've played the most this year.
2/14 fairways, 4/18 greens. 5 1-putts, 1 3-putt. 32 putts all day.
Started triple, quadruple.
3 birdies, 1 par, 7 bogeys, 4 doubles, a triple and 2 quads. Knocked it stiff on back to back holes (3 feet, 1 foot) to make birdie, birdie. Promptly hit the next tee shot OB for the 2nd quad of the day.
Sneaking out of work early Wednesday for more.
Lost a in a 9 hole match today vs a decent player had to give me 1 shot.
Here are some of the interesting holes.
Off the 1st perfect tee shot up the left side of the fairway perfect for a back right flag. He dug hooked his. He played his 2nd and it was a bad shot. It looked to be going long right which would short side himself and basically playing for a bogey at that point, He got a unreal bounce and got to about 12 feet. I hit the green and 2 putt, same with him hole halved.
2nd hole meh tee shot. 140 PW left in. Got a stupid bounce right off a side slope that sloped left. He hit a good wedge into about 5 feet and holed the putt. 1 down.
3rd hole. He tee'ed off and this sort of necky slice which ended up being really good. Now my tee shot.....I'm not sure how I completely air balled it, Like WTF! Then for my 2nd off the tee I put it in a thick bush. I basically said if we can't find it I'll concede the hole. Looking for it in the bush I managed to bust my hand open and spent the rest of my hole using my towel to stop the blood coming out of my hand 😃
4th and 5th are Par 3's one long one short. Halved in Bogeys on 4 and halved in 3's on the 5th
6th is where I get my shot. 420 Par 4 into a north wind. He hit that little cut again. I hit a good drive about 250ish. He hits his 2nd just short of the green. I hit mine about the same but a bit left of his. He got up and down and I didn't hole halved.
7th small par 3. OB long. Tee's up meaning this hole is playing even shorter. I have the fear of going long on this hole. I take LW and come up pretty short of the pin. He hits it to about 12 feet. I hit a really good putt just didn't break. He holes his to win 3&2.
Then in typical fashion we played 8 and 9 to get back to the club house, I actually start hitting good shots and would of won the last 2.
Not to fussed about being knocked out of this comp. Not a big fan of 9 hole matches I only really played it because it didn't get filled up. What's more worrying is the fact I actually missed a ball and this happens to me now and again. I've been fiddling with my swing a little lately and I'm hitting the ball way better than I have been, So it's a even bigger surprise that I whiffed the ball.
Off note on the Sunday we played a 4 man scramble but each person is only allowed 3 clubs and the clubs on your team cannot be the same. For example only 1 person in your team is allowed a putter. I didn't want driver but ended up getting it as well as a 5 iron and my gap wedge. I drove it great that day. I hit a bomb on the 3rd par 5 and hit a good 5 iron to get pin high in the fringe. I never to get to Par 5's in 2. I really wanted the putter however one of the higher handicappers in my team insisted he wanted to use it. I don't think he holed a single putt. I am terrible with putting with a wedge tried it for a few holes but ended up de lofting the 5 iron and bit and got it rolling like a putter, Only thing was the pace was hard to judge as it would just shoot off the face. We ended up going -4 which 3 of the teams did as well but we lost on count back.
44 (par 36). No birdies, 1 double bogey.
First Tuesday night golf of the season. Moved up a set of tees, I think that's going to make it more fun. Ball striking wasn't good but it was acceptable. Chipping is a work in progress, but I may have found something that I've been looking for on bump and run chips, lol we'll see if I can remember the feel. Putting was abysmal, took a while to get used to the greens and I didn't make much of anything.
83 (40-43), 6,481 yds, 70.2/124. Insane wind, 2-3 club worth at times. Quite happy with scoring this well considering the conditions.
Slow and steady scoring improvement through three rounds. Finally cracked the birdie code this season with two yesterday: hole out from the bunker on 9 and missed a 6 foot eagle putt on 16.
Putting has been pretty poor to start the year, but greens have probably sped up from about an 8 on the stimp to 10'6 already in under two weeks. Hopefully get some more consistency there.
3rd hole. He tee'ed off and this sort of necky slice which ended up being really good. Now my tee shot.....I'm not sure how I completely air balled it, Like WTF! Sorry you lost the match but this is hilarious

Par 72 70.3/124 6200 yards.
Have shot +19, +19 and +13 here this season.
+17 89 (46/43)
4 pars, 11 bogeys, 3 doubles.
5/14 fairways, 3/18 greens.
35 putts, 4 1-putts, 3 3-putts.
Boring round. Started with a 3-putt bogey. Didn't make a par until #12.
Back at it Saturday.
42-43-85. No birdies, 1 double bogey. Not a long course, about 5,900 yards.
More of the same. Mediocre or worse ball striking. I got lots of chipping practice, it's getting there. Putting was meh.
Played this course a few times, but it's been at least 20 years.
par 72 36/36 6450 yards 71.2/130
+13 (42/43)
4/14 fairways, 9/18 greens
37 putts. 3 1-putts, 4 3-whacks
Had it going for a while at +7 thru 14, but then made back to back triples.
Holes of Note:
#2 par 4 - club selection was driver, SW, putter, SW, putter, putter (thinned my 2nd to the back fringe, putted it off the green. Made double)
#7 Par 4 - drive found the water on the right (didn't think I could hit it 280. I was wrong.) Took line of flight back to 143 yards on the fairway, stuck a 9-iron to 5 feet and made it for par.
Back at it tomorrow at another course I've never played before.
Played meh all weekend.
Played 27 today. Went out for 9 holes with my mate at 6pm was nice. The golf course is playing so firm the ball is going so far.
420ish Par 4 don't think I've ever hit anything less than a 8 iron in here. Whilst I like how far the ball is going not sure I'm a fan of this type of golf having to rely on random bounces. We need water on our greens so bad as they are so firm.
Went +1 in the 9 holes. 3 Birdies. 2 Bogey's. 1 Double
