What'd You Shoot Today? (Golf BBV Thread)

I think this forum could use a BBV thread, so here it is.

Would it be ok if a hacker joins this? I'm not good at all but I'm pretty serious about trying to get better.

Shot 110 (52/58) today. Completely butchered a par 3 trying to chip over a bunch of low bushes. Would have been better just to chip around them.

Anyway, my short term goal is to break 100.

Yes, absolutely! Following along as people get better and improve different parts of their game is the best part of this thread.

thank you for showing up ‘round here bb posting your golf adventures
probably a better place for your newbie talk not clogging up you blog
as well as everything else ec said

Welcome. Your goal is a great one to set. Can't provide any swing tips but the simple and easy way to breaking into double digits is reduce big blowup holes. For the most part that means eliminating any sort of penalty strokes.

I remember my first sub-100 round vividly (it was 99), on a buds trip 15 years ago.

walking back yesterday's fun when i shot the temperature
70.5/135 6,244 par 72

+1 +2 +2 +3 +3 +4 +6 +8 +10
+11 +12 +13 +13 +15 +16 +18 +18 +20
92
4 FIR, 1 GIR, 25 putts, no three putts
3 penalties, including with driver on 16 and 18
four amazing short sided trap saves
but overall ball striking is better so i'm staying positive.

46-41-87. 1 birdie, 3 double bogeys. 67.4/120/5729

Yuck. Didn't play horribly, but could not score. Birdie was a chip in, I had about 4 birdie putts inside 6 feet and didn't make any of them. A couple pop up drives early on the back but I was able to apply a band aid and the last two drivers were solid.

91, 70.9/136 from 6500 yards

No triples no birdies 4 GIR 38 putts. Only one penalty stroke on hole 2 but didn’t make that swing again all day.

Face angle was very under control through the bag. Low point was a little looser especially with the wedges but not terrible.

16.7 diff moves GHIN from 19 to 18.4

50, one par, three bogeys. Just as other aspects of the game are coming together, my putting turns to ****.

Last 4 rounds have been +23, +18, +23, +22. Haven't made a birdie in my last 10 rounds. Handicap still 10.0.

Playing the home course tomorrow. We'll see what's left in the tank.

45-47-92. 1 birdie, 1 double bogey, 3 triple bogeys. 70.8/134/6328

Rough day. Left knee is messed up, which meant consistent ball striking was completely out of the question. Short game mediocre, putter was fine, I just didn''t make many putts - but I did birdie #2 after making a miserable one putt triple on #1.

46 (par 35). No birdies, 2 double bogeys, 1 triple bogey.

Mostly short game issues, but two balls in the water didn't help.

58/57.

Although the score is really bad, I feel like I'm definitely improving. 6 lost balls killed me but otherwise I hit pretty decently. That probably doesn't make sense. My good shots are getting better and more consistent and my short game is improving. I'm just losing drives and second shot 3 woods. If I can clean that nonsense up.......

Not sure if this is the place to ask this, but anyone hear of sciatica caused by golf? I've developed some sort of nerve pain on my right leg (I'm right handed) near the groin, inner thigh. I can't really find any other reason for this other than I'm hitting or playing almost every day now and I'm an old guy so I wonder if this might be the cause.

What kind of yardage/tees are you playing? I'm just curious.

Eliminating the penalties is definitely a good way to improve your score.

Glad to have you posting here bb.

League night. 53. Three bogeys. One after sinking a 40-ft putt.

Shot 93 at this 35/36 69.1/130 6,075 yard Par 71 3 days ago.

1 birdie, 8 pars, 7 bogeys, 1 double and whatever the **** a +9 is. Somehow used the same ball the entire round.
-1, +8, +8, +8, +8, +9, +9, +9, +9, (44) +11, +12, +13, +14, +15, +15, +16, +16, +17 (44) 88
6/14 fairways, 6/18 greens.
9 1-putts, 1 3-putt. 28 putts.

Started with 2 great shots that left me 17 feet for eagle. Missed it, but made birdie. Then made a 13.

Not that I want you to have to relive that nightmare, but how in the world did you get a 13 without losing a ball? I know I know - "I missed the putt for 12"

I hit from the white tees. I just looked it up and it says the total course length from the whites is 6028 yards. A couple par 5s are over 500 yds.

1 - Drive clips a tree and gets knocked down at the base of a tree. No shot.

2 - Use my dad’s patented left-handed-back-of-the-putter swing to punch it out from the tree.

3 - 225 out in right rough, 3h pops up and lands in the fairway bunker 140 yards out.

4-140 out. 9-iron finds the right green side bunker.

5 - Hit ball too cleanly (no sand) out of the bunker over the green, down the hill into many trees.

6 - hit tree

7 - hit tree

8 - didn’t hit tree but didn’t get to green

9 - same as 8

10 - chip over green into rough

11 - chip back over green into rough

12 - chip to within 2 feet

13 - down.

Played the other 8 on the front even par.

TBE - i’m crying here

partly from the humor of it all, but most is from reliving past trauma
congrats to you for finishing the hole after your second knock in the forest, and again after repeated over and backs

commendable, even more so after you erased it from your brain and finished out the nine in style

I played limit hold’em for a living for years; one must develop a short memory to do that.

and yes i saw those putting stats

117 (57/60) Ugh.

I'm super happy with my irons right now. My chipping and pitching has improved considerably due to a ton of practice. Putting - eh, but not horrible. But my long clubs are horrendous. I'm pushing my drives right. Not a slice or anything, just a push. The problem on this course is there are dense woods and/or water to the right of most holes and even a gentle push to the right is a lost ball. I'm off just enough to lose it. Lost 5 today.

Also, I have absolutely no confidence in my 3 wood so my second shots on long holes are hurting me a lot.

I have no doubt in my mind I would be scoring quite a bit better if I just played irons but not gonna do that.

I have another lesson soon so hopefully I can get this corrected.

When I played in high school (back in the days of persimmon) our coach would have us play practice rounds with irons only. It was a heavily forested course, so I think he was trying to get it through our heads that we'd lose fewer shots keeping it in play. I'm not sure it sunk in.

Quick update...

Friday night roll up which I ran came to a end yesterday. Overall was a big success. I came 5th overall which was pretty decent overall quite hard to compete with the higher handicaps in this.

Not one for speaking in front of everyone but found it a breeze overall doing the presentation and all that.

Club Champs today....

1st round shocker. +10 couldn't do anything right. 7 Behind the leader and in like 5th overall I think.

2nd round. Crazy round. +2, 71 which was the lowest round of the day. It could of been a lot worse and a lot better at the same time. I had 6 birdies. Countered by 3 doubles. Double on the 8th which was just crap. Double of the 12th which at max should of been a bogey just 3 putt by missing a short putt. 17th was a double this was a tough hole into the wind today. I had a nightmare on the tee, Hit my 1st one thought it went OB. Played a provisional that went straight OB. Then 3rd went down the middle. Thankfully I was on the OB line and just had to chip out. Then lastly on 18 I missed a 1 foot putt.

I come 2nd overall so from 5th to 2nd is pretty good result. None of us were going to beat the guy in 1st. He went 72/72 and that's probably the worst he is going to do on his bad day. He is just that much better than us. I'm happy I grabbed 2nd basically it's a unsaid competition between all of the others.

My score in the red box. Will give a shout out to the guy in the blue box. He's a 16 handicap and I played with him the 1st round and he played out of his shoes to be +4. He was so disappointed with his 2nd round but he really shouldn't be.

40-39-79. No birdies, 1 double bogey. 68.1/116/5917

You sure see some crazy deep divots when you play courses out in the country.

Below average ball striking. Popped up two drivers and a 3 wood (!) off the tee. Made two pars and a bogey. Chipping mostly good, putting way above average. Had a lot of tap ins for par.
