The fact that the Strip technically sits outside Las Vegas city limits in an unincorporated area (mostly Paradise, NV) comes down to a classic story of money, taxes, and clever positioning.
Here is why that layout exists and what the benefits are:
1. Massive Tax Avoidance (The Original Hustle)
Back in the 1940s and 50s, early casino developers wanted to build massive luxury resorts but didn't want to pay Las Vegas city taxes or face strict city regulations. By building just south of the city line, they stayed under county jurisdiction (Clark County).
The Win: They completely avoided the municipal tax codes of the city, saving millions of dollars that could be funneled directly back into expansion and massive entertainment budgets.
2. Total Control Over Local Governance
When the City of Las Vegas tried to annex the area in 1950 to grab a piece of that skyrocketing casino revenue, the resort owners struck first. Led by casino tycoon Gus Greenbaum, they petitioned the county commissioners to form their own unincorporated town, which they named Paradise.
The Win: This gave the casinos immense political leverage. They essentially created a local government wrapper tailored specifically to protect the gaming and tourism industry, with no residential voters to push back against zoning laws, noise levels, or massive structural footprints.
3. Dedicated County Infrastructure
Because the Strip is the economic engine of the entire state, Clark County treats it with absolute priority. Unincorporated Paradise has its own dedicated police bureau (LVMPD's Strip Area Command) and a world-class fire and rescue framework optimized purely for handling massive high-rise resorts and high-density crowds.
The Win: The resorts get elite, hyper-focused public services without having to share or compete for a standard city budget that would otherwise be split across residential parks, schools, and neighborhood roads.

this version sucks

my bad

I was 10 years old
Doin' all that I could
Wasn't easy for me to be a scared white boy in a black neighborhood
Sometimes you would send me a birthday card with a $5 bill
Yeah I never understood you, Dad, and I guess I never will

the song is pretty mid

the band hits but is also pretty mid

the 90s were more mid than people remember

i used to crank out ~35 blog posts per hour

i was a unit. but those days are gone forever, i should just let'em go...

(The Ataris version of Boys of Summer is alright, I dunno the theme of the song makes me cringe as does thinking about the song but I could still stomach listening to it once a year.)

GOB is a sick palate cleanser

I wonder if my neighbors can hear me cranking music at 3am

But apparently not enough lmao.

I'm 3 hours into this game and so far it is the best I've ever played pretty much. I want to walk around the woods to find some animals to kill, maybe smoke a cigar i dunno i have a few on me...but the women are restless so i'm taking a few of them into town on a wagon.

It appears to be a game with a rich story and main plotline, but also a game where you can walk in any direction and experience something fun that feels alive.

What is better and more needed than larping around The Old West anyway?? Especially in this 2026 dystopian nightmare we call the present.

would be nice if i could ban the topic of actors/movies/"entertainment" from my twitter. i could go the rest of my life without watching another movie and not care.

Arthur Morgan is a great character; more fleshed out than many movie protagonists. And he works as a paladin or a psychopath, which is an amazing bit of writing.

I see myself taking both paths, SJ. My nature is very much a nobleman, but my shadow wants to cause as much trouble as possible 😃

I'm buying a Calendar.

Despite my NL game being at its apex, and online poker being very easy, I've only won 340 on BetRivers in the past 6 weeks, playing unusually low volume even for me.

That makes no ****ing sense in the world and I'm going to change course.

One way to change course is to automatically cashout 15% of my online roll on the last day of every month.

I won't be doing that. Tho it's a great way to build.

What I will be doing is nutting up or shutting up.

Act as if you are world class at what you do.

15% every two weeks boss

I'm up about 250 buyins online this year. Much of that was at nl2 tho.

My sleep is now the best it's been all year. It could be a random progression but I doubt it.

I was worried my sleep would screw up my Vegas trip.

Got 8 hours last night. With only 1 hour of wake period in there.

That's about as good as it's gonna get for me.

I feel really put together today.

Gonna go in for my monthly injection in a few minutes from now. The nurse isn't the best at administering them -- a good amount of ouchie is expected -- but bless her heart and I don't complain.

tell me about abilify and gambling disorder. i take the maintena monthly and i want to harness the gambling disease so bad lmao.

Abilify (Aripiprazole) and Gambling Urges
The Connection to Impulse Control
Dopamine Partial Agonism: Abilify works by modulating dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain. Because of its specific dopaminergic properties, it can occasionally disrupt the brain's reward and impulse-control pathways.

Not a "Superpower": While you might feel an intense, overwhelming urge to chase that rush, trying to lean into a medication-induced impulse control disorder usually leads straight to financial destruction rather than a masterclass in beating the house. The FDA and international regulators explicitly warn about aripiprazole inducing compulsive gambling, shopping, and binge eating because these urges are notoriously uncontrollable and destructive, not because they unlock some strategic advantage.
PMC - NIH

The Maintena Factor: Since you're on the monthly maintenance injection (Abilify Maintena), the medication is in your system continuously. If you actually start experiencing a severe spike in compulsive urges, you can't just skip a morning pill to dial it back—you'd need to talk to your prescribing psychiatrist immediately about adjusting your treatment plan.

Note: If you find yourself genuinely unable to control the impulse to gamble, reach out to your mental health provider right away. Letting a pharmaceutical side effect wreck your bankroll isn't harnessing a disease; it's just letting the chemistry win.

"usually leads straight to financial destruction rather than a materclass in beating the house"

based on how that is worded, i still got a shot lets goooooooooo

Man oh man .... If this new sleep arc is real and I'm gonna be effortlessly getting 8+ hours a night going forward ....

It's going to be like having super powers, and I'll have an extra 4-5 hours of time to be alive per day.
