WSOP Trip Report 6/11-6/19
I am getting extremely excited for my upcoming trip! Heading out on Wednesday and I can't wait. I typically make 2-3 V
Since I got shut out of early morning poker I decided to just walk around for a while and get my steps in before heading over to the mgm. Hopefully I'll be sitting grinding this tournament all day and I won't get a chance to do many steps.
On my way over to the MGM I decided to stop for breakfast at the Henry in the cosmopolitan. It's one of my favorite breakfast places. I decided to get the French toast and it was very good. And their French toast has changed a little bit it used to be too comically large slices of bread now it's a more reasonable three normal slices of bread.
I expect this will be the only meal I eat today as I have to get back into my fasting schedule. Just registered for the tournament which starts at 10:00 and I'm really looking forward to getting back into some tournament poker.
First break 22.1k coulnt get much going but i typically start slow. Just gotta focus and do nothing stupid.
I busted out in level 8 500/1000/1000. Never really had much going the entire tournament. In fact I think in the whole thing I only showed down two hands. The first was a pair of tens in level one which won a small pot and the other one was the pair of sixes that I busted with in level 8.
The bust out hand went like this medium stack raises to 2,000 shorter stack on his left goes all in for 13,000. I look down at my 66 and figure 13k guy will shove anything hoping for a steal. I shoved all in hoping to isolate him. That didn't work as the initial raiser called. Turns out he had Ace Ace and 13k guy had Ace Jack. AJ actually won the main part with a straight but the aces obviously beat My Sixes and I was gone.
I did get a chance to say hi to Big Whale. He was at the next table over from me. I'm guessing he busted before I did because when I was gone he was not sitting there anymore
I never really considered firing a second bullet in this tournament. The MGM tournament area is really kind of dark and makes it hard to see the cards. My plan B is to play the 12:05 $400 at Resorts World tomorrow.
Plan to play some cash later tonight but right now I'm just want to chill in the room and catch up on some news. That was a long hot walk of shame from the MGM back to the Venetian.

Took a shower after that long sweaty walk back from the MGM. Also pounded 4 beers 😀 Now im gonna go down and try to get onto a cash game. After 4 beers this goes one of two ways. An exceptional session or i get felted. Either way im good with it 😀

Interesting enough it was neither of those. Actually ended up losing $42 after a couple of hours. Thing is it was an outstanding game. Everybody was drinking and half the table was drunk including me. There were lots of straddles and double straddles but I just couldn't get anything going. When your'e old man prostate (like I am). You need to take a leak every 30 minutes. I think I played well despite more than a few beers. It was frustrating because I felt I was playing well even though I couldn't catch the cards that I needed to win.
Calling it a night. Hopefully I can get another good night's sleep like I had last night and be ready to play a tournament tomorrow. I'll probably go to the pool again tomorrow and relax before I go over to the noon tournament at Resorts World.
My pov…if it’s a raise and a call, it’s a clear shove with 66 because of fold equity.
Raise and a shove makes it less exciting because you’re flipping at best with the 13k stack which makes it higher variance than perhaps you need because at 25bb you still have a ton of play left.
I might be wrong tbh and maybe it’s ok to take a flip for half your stack with a little extra juice?

Its not really 25 bb though? Its 10 rounds! I look at rounds rather than bb. If you have 10 rounds or less you can only shove or fold. I thought (wrongly!) I might be able to isolate a shove with any 2 stack.
Also ( and I could be wrong) I think one of the major mistakes people make in tourneys is waiting too long to desperation shove.
25k at 500/1000 is 25bb. You can define your stack by M or any other way as well but it’s 25bb. And we disagree because I think 25bb has a ton of play - IME in mtts, what separated the best players from the rest is how well they navigate 18-30bb stacks and to that point in most situations, a 3 bet fold is definitely possible with 25bb albeit that isn’t an option in this instance with a shove ahead of you.
So it’s definitely shove or fold for sure in this instance. I’d just always prefer to be shoving than calling with a small to mid pocket pair where possible. As above though, if it is a mistake, I don’t think it’s a big one particularly if blinds are turbo

No tournament expert, but I agree that 66 feels a bit too much 'hope and pray' in that spot. If you had 99 or something it would probably be fine.
I'll agree that the sixes was a questionable hand. But only because of the initial raiser. If it were just the short stack shover I think 66 is easy call/shove.
Slept pretty good last night and after getting cleaned up went out and walked about 5 miles to get some steps in early. Going to head down to the pool when it opens in about 10 minutes and try to stay down there as long as I can stand the heat. Then I'll get cleaned up probably grab some food and head over to Resorts world. I haven't eaten anything since that French toast yesterday so I'm kind of hungry. Trying to decide if I want to have a breakfast or an early lunch.
I spent a nice hour and a half down by the pool really felt good out there today. But I wanted to get cleaned up and grab some food. The new food court on the Venetian Casino floor finally opened and it's about a thousand percent better than it used to be. Lots of great options.
I decided to go with the fried bologna sandwich from the turkey in the wolf and it was outstanding.
It was an extremely tasty sandwich but I want to try out Howling Rays chicken before I leave as well. There's a guy over in the casual dining thread who swears by it.
After eating I hoofed it down to the Resorts World so I can register for the tournament it starts at 12:05. Just waiting for that to happen now I'm going to wander around the casino for a little bit. Also I already scored by using my 25 free dollars on my new players card to win $30 in a slot machine.
Busted out in level 12 in 29th place. The tournament had 95 entries and 12 would be paid. I'm really surprised I made it as far as I did because I was totally card dead the entire tournament. I had JJ twice, AQ once and maybr AJ twice. That was it no real premium hands to speak of no other pairs over 55.
I tried to be as patient and opportunistic as I could be giving the hands I was dealt. When I finally went out we were at 2K 4K 4K and I had about 45k chips left. Everyone else at the table had at least three times my amount of chips. I made my feeble final shove with Ace 9 and got called by Ace Jack and that was that.
I think I played about as well as I could under the circumstances and now I'm just going to chill in the room for a few minutes and probably go downstairs and get something to eat before trying to get into a cash game later tonight. Hopefully I've saved up all my run good for the salute to Warriors tomorrow because these first two tournaments did not give me much to work with.
