mark, did you have an avatar bet with anyone this year?

No, I didn't, but this one is gone baby gone as soon as I decide on a semi permanent replacement.

It currently has me delayed in Pittsburgh trying to get home. DIA is reporting snow through 5pm with temps down to -34.

This Colorado storm has the season snowpack chart taking a vertical turn, a few more days of this and we'll be at the median. Relieving.

I'm excited to begin exploring the trees at breck and key. I had my spots at WP and Copper, but I am flying blind this season.

If it helps any, that's probably windchill. Currently -4 in suburbia.

This is day 7 of an extreme cold warning.

We touched -30C (-22F) for about 9 seconds today. Warmest it’s been in a week.

We had our warmest December in a century last month but this month is reversion to the mean in a big way.

Ouch man, my fingers and toes hurt just thinking about that. Are you holed up at home?

Just got back home. Plan was to ride today, but the weather was not cooperative. We would have sent it and struggled for the first hour in the 16” they got overnight, it was the wind that stopped us. -17 wind chill with 50mph gusts. That’s not too fun for a kid. We had an absolutely epic day the day before though so all was good.

Drive home was the worst conditions I have ever driven in. White outs that stopped traffic, jacknifed semi in the two lane road we use to go home, people sliding and hitting each other. Got lucky that the place we stopped was near a mountain, back country neighborhood and the map showed a way around. I was hesitant to go that route at first, but sent it and it paid off. It was pretty gnarly traveling through there. Up and down the pass got a little sketchy, and we stopped to make sure some people who slid off the road were ok (they were). All in all I’m glad I invested in some Blizzaks and an AWD SUV, and that we left early and didn’t try to ride. All the people that went up this morning… may the odds be ever in your favor!

Oh and one thing I always knew, but kind of hit me this weekend… I’m a f’ing hero when the powder is out. Side hits, terrain park jumps, blasting through bumps… but I fold when it’s a normal or icy day. Even my kid was giving me props on my jumps because I didn’t look like a scrub getting air. 😃

Hell no.

Work still to be done, indoors and out.

Site maximums for outdoor exposure is 12 minutes.
We’ve moved all work indoors until Wednesday and we reevaluate then.

So, 42F isn't cold?

What do you do for work?

I'm a construction project manager. Spent 4 hours today offloading tanks and pumps. Good times.

The other 4 hours were spent thawing out.
