Minneapolis is a nice city. However, winter four months/year.

Maybe consider a dual residency?

As rick points out, everyone has their own ideal climate. I love Colorado's--(generally) warm and sunny. Can be hottish (90s) in summer, but not humid--so, just find some shade and a breeze, and it's o.k. for me.

Very lucky to have found a place that clicks so well with me. Most people don't have (or make) the chance to find their match.

I prefer -40 over 108.

Sounds like "I prefer being eaten by sharks over being trampled by elephants" to me. I'll go with neither, thanks.

Yep, Colorado is pretty perfect for me. I can ski 10 mo of the year if I want, while also being able to golf April - October. There are bike paths everywhere. The low humidity means I actually dry off after a shower. Summers can get hot, but the low humidity means sweat actually does its job.

Granted, it was -15 without windchill when I landed last night. But that is a rarity.

Do you live in CO too, or just enjoy it there?

Da fuq is an elephant for?

we got out today it was +3 F. Which is cold AF for Utah. Busted out the lectric sox, chem hand woarmers, hooded face mask and we were g2g . It blew 100mph over the ridgeline during our 5+day storm and it was crazy scoured in spots. Protected areas were hashtag $

Warmed up 30° from when I started skiing to when I left the slopes. (-15 to 15)

It took until well after 10AM before I had to share a lift ride. 15+MPH wind forecast musta scared all the locals.

Generic suburban Denver. Despite that being the case, I really do like my neighborhood and matro Denver more generally.

I've sometimes thought about getting a small place, like a condo or something, in a warm climate for the colder months. But it seems like a lot of hassle to manage remotely. Will probably just stick with the occasional "warm-up" trip to somewhere a lot of winters.

+1 to colorado having nice mild climate

something severely unmentioned about colorado is the elevation is too high for mosquitos - windows don't even have bug screens on them because they are not needed as there are no mosquitos to fly in

northern california is best imo

almost as good is southern california (but can get a little hot)

garrick, have you considered the snowbird plan, that's what most people in maine do, line in maine from may to october and florida during the winter

We really need to get a Colorado get together at a casino at some point. The new LLSNL Meetup.

Uhhh… we have mosquitos. I’m thinking it’s sarcasm, but I don’t know.

Loved Colorado when we were there, though the arid air was hard on my sinuses. Still, it's on the list. Coastal Northern California climate is the best, imo, but it's really expensive to live in the nice parts, and the not nice parts are way more hick than you would expect.

Most of Southern California is traffic hell (as is the Bay Area of Northern). Oregon is not as rainy as people think, if you aren't right on the coast. The Willamette Valley is nice enough to trek over the Oregon Trail, likely dying of dysentery, to get to.

We've thought about the snowbird plan, but it makes relationships hard to keep up, jobs hard to hold down, and pets who don't like cars hard to handle.

Ive lived in Breck, Boulder, Tahoe City, Park City, and a shitload of meh places. PC is hands down the best 4 me. 6700' MSL. Minimal mosquitoes, never needed a tick or flea collar for any pets ever. I have never seen a summer temp in the 90s. Today was super cold at 3 which is super rare. Generally it doesnt go much below the mid teens. And the seasonal changes are ossum

i think i maybe came across a mosquito a total of 3-4 times in about 5 years of living in colorado springs

just embrace that you'll be inundated with massive boogers every day

no joke, after leaving colorado i would often go to clear them out of habit and then be kind of disappointed to see i was firing blanks

I went to Chulo Taco which I believe is near you, recently opened. It's pretty solid as is the venue for the food hall stand.

At a million bux for a 1/8 share of a house, I'm thinking Park City is prolly not in the budget. Good Grief!

i have no idea what is happening

Hit the internets to check in to skwid's recommendation. Place looks nice, in a ski town sorta way, so I look up what is for sale on zillow. Only listings under $1.5m are for time-shares of a couple of houses. Own 1/8th share of this house for only 1.25 milly!

g-man, you should have been involved in the procurements department not the academia department cause then you could suck on the teat of your former bidders as a "consultant' for a few years once you retired

hey man i live in the ghetto of park city
