888poker confiscated 19k from me, without explanation

I have been playing high stakes poker on 888poker for over ten years.

About two months ago, I found a spam email from 888poker.
They requested some documentation, including my credit card information, front and back.
I assumed it was a phishing email, but found that my account had been locked.

I told them I would comply and send documentation, but that I would not be sending my credit card information, since I never used a credit card to deposit with.
This would also pose a security problem.
Years ago, Microgaming asked me for my credit card information through their client, and one of their employees used it to purchase almost 3.000 USD worth of Amazon gift cards. Of course, nothing was done about it.

I sent them my information, but they kept asking about my credit card information. I refused, and eventually they said I should just send the other documentation.

I sent them everything they asked for, and waited.
They replied that my account has been banned, and I would not be receiving any funds.
Their decision was final, according to their email.

So, I reached out to support and they told me to try again.
I received the exact same email from another 888 email account.
They also asked my for credit card information, which I refused to provide.
I once again sent them the other documents they had requested.

A day later, I received exactly the same email.
My account had been banned, and I would not be receiving any funds.
They linked me their terms of service, and that was it.

I still have no idea why my account has been banned.
In the last few months, I have played basically no volume, and I was trying to withdraw my funds.]

I suggested that they can ban me, as long as they would allow me to withdraw.
They kept the money.

TLDR 888poker tried to get my credit card info, I refused, but sent them the documents they requested. They banned me and took my money, without explanation.

Terrible. Tbh I would have just bended and sent the card info...

When I played there between 2010-18 they always required these details. I provided my debit card front and back with middle 8 digits covered on both sides and cv covered. They need the card to verify it is the one used on the site normally to deposit but OP didn't use a card so I don't know how it works from there.

I agree with you OP should send the pic of the card but block out middle 8 digits on both sides and the CV no. This should be good enough and in fact it was 888 themselves asked for those digits to be blocked off. I have done the same in the past on Stars, Bet365 and currently on Party and never had issues.

I appreciate OP had a bad experience in the past but if you get mugged at one train station it doesn't mean you should avoid every other station.

Anyway OP hope you get it resolved.

Upon reading OP again I ask does anyone read the basic Ts and Cs before depositing on a poker site or bother to verify upon registration. These things are simple and won't prevent every problem but will help make things easier.

Lol. Imagine being that stupid to refuse sending a copy of your cards and cancelling that after you get your money. Well it seems being stupid costs you 19k

They did not ban me because I did not provide credit card details. I never used a credit card to deposit with, so there is no information to send. I always deposited directly with Skrill/Neteller.

When I said I would not provide this information due to security concerns, they agreed and said I should send my passport, driver's license and a utility bill, which I did.
I provided all the information they requested, they reviewed it and then decided to ban me and confiscate my funds anyway.

You should be able to get the money back you just need to go through the annoyingly frustrating and long journey of being extremely persistent and ensuring you ultimately get through to the correct person who can properly assist.

Good luck.

edit - you need to also post your message in the 888 poker thread in the Online Poker Sites section of this forum so the rep sees it.

This is unacceptable, anyone who is playing on here should consider other options. If this is what they are willing to do to one of the most known hs pros for the last 10 years you can be sure they will care even less about you.

Ok fair enough, ignore the card discussion and follow the advice that GGBruce offered. PM the Rep the details of your issue and ensure to include your screenname on 888.

State of online poker in 2025: beat the rake, beat the regs, beat the bots, and pray you get to cash out your winnings.

thief give the man his money

I've spoken to five friends in the last 24 hours, whose accounts have been banned on 888 and they were not given any reason.
Three of them have had their funds confiscated.

Be super careful about playing on 888poker. I never considered it a shady site, but if they can ban you and confiscate your funds, they clearly cannot be trusted.

The documentation has nothing to do with the reviewing. Most likely it's just record keeping, for themselves and the regulator. But yeah, another shady move being made by a shady poker site.

you should get your money back i believe.

are they asking for a proof of funds check, they got fined millions for not doing their due diligence in the past so they are trying to catch up now. i got the same. wont give them it so my accounts in limbo / froze.

Anyways you should email back asking for your funds to be released, if this doesnt happen then take it up with an authority. think your based somewhere i know, we in the uk have a gambling commsion, email them and say you will make sure you will take it up with the uk gambling commision or the like and you want your money back, they probably trying to cover their own backs.

They have been working in a grey area for years, allowing p2p transfers ect (basically money laundering) and now they got fined for it so they have to cover their own backs as they dont want another 20mil fine

Have you contacted the 888 Rep in 888s thread as MrBeach2025 suggested? Don't just wave the white flag if you done nothing wrong, PM the Rep your story and include your screen name. At worst your in the same hole your in now.
