Is CA the first state looking to ban sweeps sites that doesn't already have Stars/WSOP/etc.? Seems strange for a liberal state to lean conservative on gambling otherwise

It’s the Indian tribes that have a stranglehold on California gaming that’s leading the lobbying.

CT has a ban on sweeps sites that goes into effect 10/1. Online casino games are legal here (including poker) but we don’t have any licensed poker operators so it doesn’t do us any good.

I believe Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods (which are partnered with FanDuel and DraftKings respectively) are pushing for the sweepstakes casino bans, so it’s a similar situation to in CA.

Are you sure you didn't get paid? They don't notify you it just randomly shows up 1-3 days later. I didn't notice the first one and emailed and asked but have noticed the rest going in. I cash it often. I just got paid from Wednesday's like 3 hours ago.

The tribes are extremely powerful in a bipartisan way. There were attempts to get online poker a decade+ ago in the state, and there were different factions of tribes aligned with certain operators, so they're not 100% against online poker. However, it never ended up happening because they make so much money at their B&M locations, that it is not worth them all getting together and comprising, they'd just rather not have online gaming and require everyone to drive an hour into the boonies to the nearest casino.

insane to live in a world where we can't just have a global player pool of people doing with their own fucking money what they god damn well please. shit is beyond irritating when there's so much actual crime and illegal money laundering going on. i just wanna play a fucking game with a world player pool, as the internet intended.

These bills don't even go into affect until 2026. Clubwptgold won't pull out until the end of the year if it passes. They've done nothing but the bare minimum to get all the rake they possibly can, you really think they would just snap fold Sept 12? No chance.

Yes - not only cause the governor can expedite like in NJ but the main part is they are banning the payment processors from participating in businesses like this also. The payment processor will shut down clubwptgold's on and off ramps within 12 hours of the ink drying on the bill, and clubwptgold will have to send an email to everyone in Cali to cashout in 12 hours or youre ****ed.

There is no way I can go back to Bovada after this knowing this site is out here. Really sucks I am going to be forced off this site soon. This was the best thing to happen to online poker in the US since black friday. And its all because the special interests aren't getting a piece of it that they are going state by state to end it.

IMO They are scamming sweepstakes players who were entering through the Alternative Method of Entry aka envelopes. They lowered the AMOE option from 5 to 2 and now its unduly burdensom to play unless you pay them thus making them gambling not a sweepstakes. Its no longer providing "equal dignity" to both sets of players, paying and AMOE entrants. No one in their right mind would spend a whole day writting, wait a month, pay $50 in postage get 100 credits to play.

Why sweepstakes are being banned is a long story that started with VGW aka Chumba/Global/Lucky land and they also had a sports betting site back in the day that they closed. When they first started 10 years ago it was also a bullshit $1 AMOE credit but as they grew they knew they would get in legal trouble so im sure some lawyer told them to bump it up to $5 a letter. No note card insert or stupid code and they would credit quickly like 9 days. I was making $2500 a day just addressing letters, minus postage. It was a gold rush. VGW endured this to a certain extent but they started banning people on Global because they were losing too much money. Including me. Eventually completely ******ed people started to spread this money hack to people on FB groups, some having 10k members. Chumba added note cards, and dragged out crediting people credits to 12 weeks to slow down the writters. That worked for a couple years until multi level marketing came in and started selling courses to people. No longer was it just degenerate gamblers writting cards and then donating it all back, it was motivated people in it to cash in once they learned the secret and since they paid $400 for it they went hard. At this point VGW started banning thousands of people using random reasons and claims of them breaking the terms but not specifying how. At this point I started telling everyone on FB groups to opt out of the arbitration clauses in the terms and conditions. VGW changed the terms to say if you hadn't opted out prior to the new terms your still bound by the old arbitration agreements. At that point no lawyers would take cases for free and people started calling their congress people and state attorney generals complaining about how they wrote 10,000 envelopes worth $50k and they weren't getting their money and they lost out on postage. Enter ClubWPT Gold to cash in on this new sweepstakes model but they were late to the game and had no idea how many encelopes they would be getting once the word got out how fast they credited. Anyway that's why all these states are banning them one by one. Casinos probably play a part on some of these states but Washington Idaho Michigan Montana arent exactly states controlled by gambling lobbyists.

I looked this up and you are incorrect about New Jersey. They passed their bill on June 30 in Senate and it wasn't signed by their Governor until August 15 and the sites phased out on August 26. Nearly 2 full months. This was an expedited process.

There is very little chance it passes before sept 12. Senate isn’t even planned to formally meet until October. This passed just to get the momentum for 2026 imo. It would be a miracle if this gets to a senate vote before two weeks.

No way to track it, randomly just goes into your balance. After the 1st I intentionally tried to pay attention to my balance as I go so I'd notice it. Normally I don't even look at my balance lol
