Quitting Alcohol
My name is LFS, and I may or may not be an alcoholic.
After a lifetime of drinking I quit on September 15, 2009. I'm star
Never knew this thread existed.
Congrats to all my fellow sober people; I'm coming up on 16 years this summer. Life is so much better without alcohol.
For anyone thinking they want / need to get sober, I did it using the book Rational Recovery: The New Cure For Substance Addiction by Jack Trimpey.
It taught me to retrain my brain to not drink for good. And without all of the negatives surrounding AA. (If AA works for you, more power to ya, but it doesn't have a great track record).

The most important factor in sobriety imo is realizing you are powerless over alcoholβyou literally can not have just one. Took me over 40 years to accept that.
Iβm not an AA guy for many reasons but I have pretty much done all the steps on my own, in my own way. There is a casual meeting, in the park, daily meeting a 20-30 minute walk from my place that I like to (probably need to) drop in on occasionally. Havenβt been in awhile. Iβll take this as a sign to go today.
I have three old HS friendsβall severe alcoholicsβwho have had decades long success with AA. Public schools donβt have a great track record either.
I will officially be a "sober adult" in 2 weeks. 4/30 will be 21 years.

11 years 5 months sober for me.
I'm also not a fan of AA, but that's about me, not anybody else. Whatever works , works. People are different.
Re; the bolded: We all have one power over alcohol; the power to NOT take the first drink. Slip and you lose your power.
Great stuff Mark
fantastic Mark. π
Congrats guys! I celebrated 30 years last month and have been going to daily meetings since I retired a few months ago. Amazing what a difference it makes in how i feel. For me AA is the easier, softer way.
Hit 6 years sober earlier in June. I was just coming off a week long stay in hospital with very severe symptoms and blood tests showing cirrhosis 6 years ago. ER doctor told me I was months away from death if I kept drinking.
For someone reading this in that position STOP drinking.
I have had no symptoms in about 4.5 years now. It is not too late to stop!
Nice one! Congrats
That's great news joey. Very happy for you.
Congrats joey!
