OK OOT, it's been a while since we had a devoted fast food thread around here and I think it's time we had a new one.

Agreed. Is steak n shake even a thing anymore? The one in downtown seattle was closed four years ago. I don't recall it being memorable other than the skinny fries and the fact the location was about the worst you could ask for, in terms of needing a security guard due to being next to the cross roads of an infinite amount of bus stops and the attendant homeless/drug traffic that comes with
I stopped at one in Ohio a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Burger was excellent, fries were hot and fresh, though not as good because they're the shoestrings. Shakes are always top shelf. Price was not bad at all, though COVID/inflation did manage to kill the $4 burger/fries deal they used to have.
Seems like they used to be full service, but it was order at the counter and pick up your food when called. Not a big deal and I'm sure it lets them operate with a lot fewer people.

It's really squaresville though, no apologies. Old uncool people go there, like my rural 80-something aunt and uncle who swear by it. The waitress called me "honey" 2 or 3 times. Is that a bad thing? Hard to say.

No idea if this still happens today, but it used to be the go to spot at night when I was in HS.
I was watching season 3 of Jessica Jones and a doctor was discussing dietary restrictions after having your spleen removed... So I had to google it. Damn my diet would be destroyed. DESTROYED.
Foods to limit or eliminate when awaiting spleen removal or recovering from surgery include:
Beverages with high fructose and sugar, including carbonated drinks and sodas, milkshakes, energy drinks, coffee
Processed animal proteins, such as bacon, canned meats, hot dogs, sausages, and those with high nitrate levels
Snacks with high sodium content: pretzels, chips, crackers, and nuts
Sugar-ladened items like ice cream, cakes, cookies, pastries, and candy
Processed and high trans meals, including fried foods, burgers, tacos, and pizza

Regrets
Was in a pinch and swung though BK drive-thru on way home from work. Keep in mind my drive-thru choices after getting off freeway are limited to BK, JITB and Filibertos. I had Mexican for lunch this day and dinner the night prior. JITB is my usual no time to cook or go out choice, so eat there too frequently and went BK. Got the maple bourbon bbq burger combo. Really needed a big deluxe-something burger and didn't care about value atm, and what prodded me is that some of their specialty whoppers have been great (angry whopper). It was terrible. D+. May have been a one off but this was a very good BK on the ****/great establishment spectrum. Was unbelievably dry, like difficult to chew to swallow-able medium with normal saliva production dry. The taste wasn't much better, like a condiment-less whopper with a couple drops of maple syrup. I'm willing to give benefit of doubt that crew just had off night given past quality from this location, but damn, was incredibly disappointing. Same dilemma today, going to go with Filibertos (carne asada fajitas, pro move side of chips to make great nachos also).
We are in late stage fast food bros.

one of the things i've always enjoyed about flying out of PDX is they make any vendor charge the same price as they do at their non-airport locations.

In Texas #1, we eat breakfast, dinner and supper. Lunch/dinner is consumed around noon. So what you had was actually Lupper or Dupper. 😉
I decided I was too tired on Saturday and just went home, forgoing the chain Mexican-aments.
