New fast food discussion/review thread
OK OOT, it's been a while since we had a devoted fast food thread around here and I think it's time we had a new one.

Could'nt have done it without your encouragement!
FLASH: JITB is running a free shake with purchase deal. Went with the classic 2/1 tacos, because the combo prices at my JITB are lol worthy:
$16 combos yet their stock (JACK) is down 50% for the year. I mean I guess it's my fault, I member when yumbo yacks were .99 cents, covid killed JITB for me as they stopped being 24hr, also the food sucking didn't help
The Bonus Jack was my poison. Every time they brought it back, it was like the same old one and they kept it going for over a month. This last time they smashed it, which I hate, and it only hung around for a couple weeks. What's wrong with them?
I long for the old days, when they put secret sauce on the plain old cheeburgers. They were king of cheap burgers.
Free 6pc nugs in my Wendy's app. Don't know why. Just thanked the FF God (Mark_K?). JBC meal and that's a good time for $5+tax

/sigh-of-longing
Oh man, the old JITB 99c (later $1.39, and could not be more worth it) Big Cheeseburger. Had to be twice the beef or more than a McDs cheeseburger; it certainly wasn't going to stuff you for a meal, but it was a damn fine snack. And that sauce - onion mayo, and it was a straight up delight. King of cheap burgers indeed.
Around '10 I lived in North Nevada and had a JITB directly in route to and from work, that Big Cheeseburger was the absolute perfect after-work or late-night snack. At the same time, JITB also had a GOAT-level steak breakfast burrito. Truly a halcyon year of fast food for me.
prime jack was in the late 80s, rare if a drunken weekend didn't wind up at least once
27o,
I thought of GCDS when I saw this YT vid:
A grilled cheese cheeseburger!!!!
Who's going to pony up $27.xx for it + fries + a drink at 5Guys to try it out!?
For Science, obv.
Prime jack was whatever year munchie meals came out. Great value and hangover protection after a night out when they were first released. Also sone really innovative menu items.
Prime taco bell was the late 90s.
Mexican pizza still had green onion.
Fajitas burritos
Mexi nuggets still existed.
Enchirito, chili cheese burrito, star wars tshirts.
/sigh-of-longing

I had forgotten the Big Cheeburger. It was QPC-sized for sure, at 1/4 of the price.

Peak TB for me was the smothered burrito.
mucho nacho grande was the worlds greatest gift
I would have liked to have had access to Taco Bell WAY back in the day when they fried in coconut oil.
exact timelines don't mean anything
clearly the early 90s taco bell menus
bean everything else into submission
Anyone remember Popeye's chicken sandwich?
I do! I remember the hype, and the copycats; member the BK version? Man that thing was nasty.
I haven't been to Popeyes for a looong time due to their LOLWUT sides pricing model. Their cajun fries are no better than the curlies I can get on sale for $2 a bag, done in my air fryer. I can get a like pound of evan williams mashed potatoes for 3 bucks, on sale, generic taters $3. They solved mashed potatoes IMO.
SO my point today is I think that the ff supplier corps have figured out Popeye's secret, as shown by this chicken burger I got at the angel of the winds casino up here in WA State,
$9 with tax, includes fries and free soda:

I'll be got-danged if this wasn't a 99% clone of the Pop chicken sando. Moist meat, great crunch, hot, came out relatively fast. Standard seasoned fries. Also free fountain soda, very few casinos in the area offer that.
More of their menu:

about 7 minutes off I-5
LOL I just noticed this in the JITB menu pic:

$13.79 for a salad combo? So you get a salad and... french fries? Doesn't that entirely negate the point of eating a salad? Plus, why not a diet coke, none of that water nonsense! Diet coke
+ Garden salad *chef's kiss*
$9 JITB garden salad. I think it may have chicken. It looks like one of those 3/4" deep plastic trays.
NOTE: This JITB is the only FF option in the immediate area. It'd not like the 'burbs where you have 7 ff places next to each other; Within a 15-20 minute drive, there's one JITB, two MCDs, habit burger, and taco time. So the JITB prices may be an aberration due to the unusual market conditions, or, even more likely, drunk/high patrons who wisely choose to pay more to risk less by driving to the other options. Thought he fact they aren't 24hrs anymore likely cuts down on that revenue stream
I'm all over that chicken sandwich! Yum!
BTW, another good chicken sandwich option is the Chili's version. $11 gets you the sandwich, fries, drink, appetizer/salad
Popeye's sides are lol overpriced, but you can always order "chicken only," even though it isn't always listed on the menu display. My go-to order is a 2-piece chicken "snack" (chicken and biscuit only). It stayed at $5 for a loooong time, but finally went up to $7.50 this fall. Great deal compared to the combo, and since you can order it with two breasts, plenty of food. I usually go one breast, one wing, as I don't want to overdo it, and that's plenty for lunch for me.
just felt a chill. i think it was that of the possibility of mcribs disappearing soon. I've run the BOGO game (TY MARK) 2-3x, must do again.
Note that the mcreeeyub reheats decently in the air fryer. I wrapped mine in foil. Its like its living its 2nd life as a darkmatch AMPM style highly processed pork concoction sandwich.

Sit-down casual restaurants are about the only food bargains these days. I just about never get away from Mickey's for under 11 bucks and I don't even order a drink. I gotta have a drive-thru though.

Hmm, a Popeyes just opened here a few weeks ago. Even at 7.50 that's a screamin deal if you can get 2 breasts.
