ZOOOOOM v3

ZOOOOOM v3

... Here we go again 😀

Hi 2p2,

I guess I just cannot keep away from this blogging stuff; I recently closed my last PG&C with no plans to re-open it, or make a new one, and it's taken just shy of a month to make a new one. 😆

Brief synopsis of V1 & V2:
(links to both: V1 & V2)

- grinded from 25z-200z (including some (failed) shots at 500z) on Pokerstars
- went pro (using the term somewhat loosely!)
- learned that Poker is actually really ****ing hard
- lost social life in every sense of the term (lol)
- made a best new buddy, Mirage01

Goals for 2018:
- 600k hands
- 5kNL
- to live a healthy life (I have no balance in mine atm)

I will aim to update weekly-fortnightly with a few HH's and how things are going. Expect complete transparency.

I hope this will inspire at least someone out there to go get it!

Lastly, my 2017 and 2018 results. Feel free to ask questions, I will get back to any with my updates.

2017:

2018:

Cheers & goooooood luck!!! 😀

hey bud good to see you back! congrats on the son and wife and losing so much weight. IDk whats harder, kids or losing weight haha

Thank you

Haha, I've now done this 40kg weight loss twice, in fact first time round it may have been even more as I didn't know my starting weight.

Main things that helped me were:
• allowing cheat days. On Sunday's I eat as much as I want, with the caveat that it's still mostly clean
• lots of exercise. This isn't a hard requirement, however omitting lots of exercise means you'll need to be eating like a rabbit in order to lose weight, which for me has proven more difficult. So I ramp up the exercise, burning around 4100/day on avg., with Sunday's at rest. This way my diet is still a decent volume of food at 2700 cals
• meal prep. Simply, if you've got the meal ready, you'll typically just have it instead of preparing/ordering something unhealthy
• standing desk & treadmill. Latest additions and perhaps the most beneficial. Would highly recommend.

First, welcome back and thanks for the update. Congratulations on having a son, getting married, and losing weight. You've done a lot!

Secondly, a question for you--have you found it difficult to keep up with poker while having a kid? Is your wife or family watching your son when you play during the mornings or how do you coordinate getting volume and other work done?

My wife takes care of AM shift and we also have a Nanny who comes 3 hours a day from Monday-Saturday, alternating between AM and PM.

My pokering happens when everyone is asleep. I start work at 4am and finish 9am for the club. Then have another 45min+1hr later in the day. A student of mine, who has 4 kids, told me about this life hack, "to wake up before the wife & kids". It's great.

fkn clean update! not sure what's more impressive; wife, kid or you actually sitting down and playing poker 😃 <3

Latter obv, lol 😊

When are you going to sleep and when is your kid going to sleep (and are they sleeping through the night)? Waking up at 4am seems like an impossibility to me unless I was only getting 6 hours of sleep or less/night.

Hi Clanty. Is it mainly because everyone is asleep that you grind at 4am or also because of your timezone (to catch eu night time?)?

And do you start to play right after waking up? or do you have some pre-session routine?

Delightful to see life and poker working out for someone who really deserved it.

That bit about your tough upbringing and the contrast with the Indian family vibe has really touched me. Happy for you, man.

Hey Clanty, what combo treadmill/standing desk do you use?

I'm usually in bed for 8:45pm and sleep for ~6 1/2 hours. I nap for 75 mins in the day, too.

It's mainly because I want to be able work whilst everyone is sleeping, the games being good then is an added bonus

Not immediately, no. I usually do a little bit of work before sitting down at the tables.

I haven't much of a pre-session routine tbh, other than setting up softwares, writing my goals for the session and a short 1-min meditation.

Thank you so much, man. It's been a pleasure playing w/ you recently. Thrilled to see you also doing well

Hey Clanty, what combo treadmill/standing desk do you use?

I haven't got the below treadmill frame installed. Desk is a custom L+I combo, effectively making one big U.

Week 2: 8th-14th July 2024

Goals:
• [❌] Flowstate during sessions
• [✅] 18 hours

I struggled this week to get into a consistent flow during sessions. I'm not sure why. Instead of racking my brains on it until I'm exhausted, I'll try to take my mind away until my session with my mental performance coach. Hopefully better next week.

My quality of play this week was just about OK, about a 7/10. Naturally, if I am struggling with focus and getting into a flowstate during sessions, my play will not excel. I did, however, show up every day and do my hours -- even a little more -- despite consistent struggles. Learning to be comfortably uncomfortable has never been a strong suit of mine, but I am surely working on it.

Closing the week I had a 'death' session, losing 6bi's in the first 200 hands (to be precise, -6.4bi's in 188 hands 😃). A harsh reality when sitting down to begin your day. Ended up -10bi's in 1k hands. Despite this, I played well and wouldn't change too much. Progress!

A little frustrated with the games running lately. I am trying to get in as much 2k/3k as possible, but often that results in me just holding lobbies and playing lower. Nothing much I can do. I don't want to meddle with 5k atm.

Also had a nice date day with wifey & Reyaan in the week

Week 3: 15th-21st July 2024

Goals:

• [✅→❌] Flowstate during sessions
• [✅] 15 hours

An interesting week. I managed to get back into my groove re. flowstate. However, after some good, winning b2b sessions and profiting decently in evBB and $, I found myself not focused and experiencing some anxiety. "Why?". Things were going were going great; I was focused, playing well, and winning! "... so why now am I struggling?", I pondered. Eventually it clicked. Without realising, I had inadvertently set myself the goal to make $ at the tables. Being a husband and a father, saving up and trying to provide my family, can do tricks on the mind. After sussing this out I set myself a more objective goal, one that I've been working on for a while now, to "become top 10". Like magic, the anxiety dissipated and I was again able to focus in without distraction.
... dear reader, have you ever felt lack of motivation creep its way in, perhaps during an upswing(?)? Perhaps something similar happened to you; that you already met your goals, and now require new ones. A mental 'update', per se.

I will keep an eye on this for the upcoming week, mainly aiming for it to be a more consistent one.

Outside of Poker, we had a party for my mother in law's b-day which was lovely. And again we took Reyaan out swimming on the weekend.

I'm currently at ~190lb/86kg and aim to get to 178lb/80.7kg. No time schedule in place, -1lb/week would be ideal. Things are a little up in the air as I'm not tracking calories in/out like I used to. I've lost ~10lb in past couple months, but have hit a plateau. Will aim to up exercise.

How do you approach ante games differently than regular tables? What are some of the biggest differences in preflop/postflop play? (Obviously you don't need to give your full thoughts but I'm interested in what you think)

How do you approach ante games differently than regular tables? What are some of the biggest differences in preflop/postflop play? (Obviously you don't need to give your full thoughts but I'm interested in what you think)

Mainly, to react according to how villain interprets strategy shifts. E.g. some RFI much larger, others for the same(ish) size, presumably wider.

Also, in my exp. people generally don't change their f3b by too, too much, esp. regarding 4betting, so I tend to skew aggressive with most of my 3b mixes
