1/3 Grinding and Bankroll
Hi all,
First post in this specific forum. Normally post in NL Strategy. Hoping for some feedback about bankroll manageme
Got through 25+ client interviews yesterday with all levels of psychiatric decompensation. Suicidal, psychotic, manic you name it. One guy just couldnÂ’t make up his mind. By the end I needed a long walk in the sun, a massage, and a hot shower to relax. Today is court for them but somehow I convinced everyone to postpone their hearings, what a blessing.
Made $1,000 or so in the mix running pretty well overall for a change. Nice fun time as well, we all had a laugh about the guy who kicked me who apparently isnÂ’t a very nice fellow for unrelated reasons too.
After a long few days I am taking it easy today to recover, might even just take the day off, we’ll see. I feel very accomplished to say the least to have completed this challenge successfully. My training attorney who I covered for said if I could handle her docket I could do anything. I had a client violently slap her own face in the middle of our interview. I’ve had fact patterns out of horror movies. I had a wife testify that her manic husband started singing over and over again “one two three hanging from a tree,” with her and their two children in the house.
Sometimes I think about these things before I fall asleep and I feel like I am on the verge of decompensation myself. So yeah I’m gonna take it easy today. I think I earned it.
Good idea!
Day off was good just not for poker results. Had a nice steakhouse dinner where I split a loaded baked potato and shrimp cocktail and had a cauliflower steak which was very well seasoned (and just $20). Had dinner with my friend who I’ve bonded with because we have a lot in common. Ran KQ into KK on Q flop at 5/T in a 3! pot sb v co but ran better at 2/5, did not do well at plo either for a decent loss on the day of around $1,700.
Did ok yesterday, electricity was out in the office so I worked from home and caught up on some research. Poker went fine, lost some flips at plo during the dealer changes but ran well in the actual game. AAA77ds won me around $2,000 in a 4! pot.
Went to bed early to be well rested for work and my organized game later in the day. I hope everyone who locked up a seat shows up!
A couple people no-showed to my organized 10/10 game at md live but we still got the game running six handed most of the night. I enjoyed myself and had a drink of wine, was a good host. Told the story of me and my friends at the gas station in Florida. I was stuck a lot in the beginning but came back by the end. Played a little longer after the game broke and ran well at big o but not at 2/2 plo as I gambled a little much with the action player who 5! QJT62 for $900 pre and was ahead of my rundown and got some sleep.

Last night could have been a big winning night but I lost the biggest pot I played, AAQT4dd A78dd versus the action's wrap, the binked it on the turn when the rest went in. I had 77% on the flop and 44% on the turn still oh well. Was a $10,000 pot. Made a come back and kept my composure with AKK98ds getting it in three ways for $1,000 and holding and winning some waterfalls at the dealer changes to pay the time rake. Very reluctantly I left the game to get some sleep for the work week ahead up just $1,300. At this table easily could have made $5k or more if things had gone differently and had more time, the money was flying with multiple players stuck and getting it in very light pre. contributing to society takes sacrifices!
Happy Mother's Day! Thanks to all the loving moms.
Mother's Day brunch was nice, wrote mom some nice words on her card. It did set my schedule behind a little meaning I played later than normally do on a work night. I finally got a seat in the 10/10, a very juicy lineup, and I did not pass on the opportunity this time even though it was getting late. Unfortunately it did not pay off as I lost most pots I played whether ahead or slightly behind and had a bruising session. In the beginning a wider opener iso'd and I had AKQ66ds A- and K-high suits and went with it, with the $100 double straddle on it was only 28bb eff. but I ran into top of range. Got AKK53 in pre and lost that too, not the best kings but it was a pretty loose table. Later squeezed QJJT8ds versus two loose players and had the best of it against two mediocre A-high hands and flopped well with my fd, they had no pair but I lost anyway on an A river. Opened a little too wide UTG but I was $875 eff. with AJ765ss and lost that one too. Also got bluffed once but I had terrible blockers to call, unblocking value and blocking main draws.
On the bright side the market did very well today and even though I slept in I don't have a lot on my plate in the beginning of this week so I can afford it and will probably just take the day off and reset my schedule.
DidnÂ’t really run well except at 5/T, at least I sorta reset my schedule. Missed my draws in the mix for the most part and lost with a beautiful AKQTTds in a 4! pot at plo5, flopping the nut flush draw against AA and losing.
In the mix did win against a really premium AA in big o with my AQJ62ds though, prompting the loser to get sorta upset and pretend to rage quit in an attempt to imitate me. (I do have a tendency to quit if I start out losing a session at the mix.)
At 5/T 3! ATo short-handed against someone who was a little wider and steaming, got the full double up on a T-high flop against JT.
Went to bed at a relatively normal time and will watch a couple hearings this morning as part of my training.
Was reading about retirement and what people do when they retire. I would probably volunteer doing legal stuff related to mental health law. I think I could retire now as long as I lived frugally and played poker at some frequency. Not that I would want to play much less poker in retirement. Working this intense of a job really is a lot and tough to balance with even part time poker.
Ran good last night after adjusting my schedule again, was at an action table and quickly ran it up flopping lots of top sets or draws and holding with my dsKK. I have a lot of action because the money was very much in play, getting it in with 98655ds once for example. Game died down and I left for 5/T where I did well also.
Thankfully I have rebounded and then some from the market crash so at least that’s not a distraction for now. Back in the office the rest of the week and covering for an attorney on leave again. Going to be busier the next few days.
Played a little at live after work and ran decently then left once traffic subsided. Big mix was running and an above average lineup so I jumped in for a little and held my own all night, won a nice one with a 9 low in single draw but had a brain fart and blurted out before the draws “can anyone beat a nine?” which may have screwed me over because everyone else who was pat now drew. I blame working all day. Lost with AQT92dd in big o capped pot to two low hands where I was a sizeable favorite which sucked but won 85432ds in big o multi-way capped pot making a wheel 6 for 3/4. Later started with a 234Qdugi in badugi three ways breaking and making a 6 on the first draw, ended the night with a 7/7 in Badacey starting with a 7 dugi no low and chopping against a 2-card draw. I ran ok this time and broke even which I am happy about given my track record in the big mix.
Hey what’s your new hourly rate for coaching? Any recent graphs on 1-2-5 5c or overall? Also links to previous graphs would be much appreciated!!
Last night played really well, was super sharp at 5/T/25, made around $3,000 overall on the day. Won at plo too flopping quads against top boat and top set fd holding / getting there against a draw turned straight, but lost with trips versus trips towards the end. My ultra aggressive style got one of the bankroll-poor players upset and as he left the table having folded his dead money to my squeeze he muttered faggt under his breath so I said “is his $15 in the pot? Good. See ya!”
Wrapping up another week, have client interviews in the afternoon and potential hearings on Monday. It’s not a crazy busy docket compared to last time so I can handle it.
Here’s a plo graph from a year and a half ago when I started coaching:

232 and 176 hours in a month? Dang that is some decent volume.
I'm sure I could find this in the thread but on weekdays how long do you play until and then have to get up?
Congrats on your success and management of a full time career and part time one as well

I don’t put in that kind of volume anymore. I’m usually in bed before midnight during the week.
Sessions*
Ran well at plo, QQJJ won multi-way all in, entered $600 tournment on a whim and remembered why I don’t like tournaments. Client interviews were uneventful, I have a very good way of speaking with them that comes from my relatability.

You’re saying you’ve logged 600 sessions at 5/5 plo and higher? When did you start playing 5/5 and higher?
Ran really well yesterday and played well overall. I made around $6,000 on the day. Not bad for midstakes! Doubled AA v. QQ at 5/T/25, doubled JJ v. KQ on KJ4Q (just guessing he had KQ from action). Suggested we put on the $50 straddle and 3! 99 sb v. btn but got jammed on, 3! QQ v. same opener and held v. AJo.
At plo, dsAA held three ways and I can’t really remember the other hands - it’s just a blur of running well. Making around $190 an hour this month which is really good for the stakes I regularly play these days. Buying in deeper at 5/T/25 has helped.
Woke up relatively early for a Sunday just to reset my schedule for the work week as I may have a hearing on Monday morning I need to be well-rested for.
