My Last Shot at Poker

My Last Shot at Poker

Hi all,

As you can see in the title this will be my last shot at poker. I have been playing poker for the last 8 months (I know I’m relatively new to poker, I started in the beginning of the pandemic) and I’m a winning player. I have never been able to build a big bankroll because I’m starting to panic at the smallest downswing which results in me withdrawing 75% of my bankroll when this occurs.

Recently I started grinding NLH 6-max cashgames and I'm slowly starting in being a decent winning player in this format. One problem, I keep tilting away all my winnings. Also when this happens I experience issues with me thinking I’m just not good enough to make it etc. In the last few weeks I made several small deposits on stars and every time when I had reached the point where I tripled/quadrupled up I tilted away my whole bankroll in one session. I also recently had COVID-19 which resulted in me being extremely tired and not been able to focus, problem is I still decided to play sometimes when actually not able to play.

Again this will be my last shot at poker, this time I will try to be very disciplined and set some goals to make this work and avoid punting my money away, posting this (the pressure of you guys ;P) will hopefully help me in achieving my goals.

Life/poker goals and rules to myself:

- Take a break after playing for 1 hour
- Go running 3 times a week
- Go to the gym 3 times a week (gyms are currently closed in my region due to COVID-19 so I will start off with some pushups etc.)
- Study 30 minutes before playing
- Stop playing for at least 1 hour when losing 3.5 buy-ins or when on tilt
- Strict BR management which I will keep you guys posted on
- Consume alcohol ones a week max (I am not an alcoholic but alcohol really affects my focus and sleep)
- Try to see my friends at least ones a week (I’m dealing with depression for the last 4 years, recently I started to feel very awkward around people which results in me avoiding my friends and not going outside, I’m trying to work on this in general)

Tomorrow I will start the challenge with a deposit of around $20 on stars. I will be playing mainly cashgames but maybe some SNG’s/tourneys in the future as well.

I will be posting graphs and hands daily. Feel free to leave a comment or suggestion!

Also let me know if anyone wants to study with me. Nobody of my real life friends play poker and I have basically no one to discuss hands/strategies with.

giving to someone in the micros will only enable fish behaviour imo

i would hold off the rest until you find a good charity - but honestly, anything called dankjewel sounds like a pretty good one to give the rest to

congrats on the donation, and yeah agree'd, charity is the way to go, donating to a poker player is flushing it down the toilet lol

also is the K9 a bluff? feels insanely thin

Dont give it to charity. That **** is gay af.

haha was a bluff yeah, thought he would never bet trips for value so don't block folding range and also don't beat value with my combo. And having Kd on that board is massive I think because it removes 2 supercombos in his range

----

Two hands from yesterday and this morning. H1 run it twice only the first runouts counts for a (60kish) jackpot - H2 Villain had jackpot trigger hand (sources told me :P) for (120kish) jackpot. The 2nd hand ofcourse I'm ******ed for clicking the ****ing rabbit hunt thing, I should just never click it again. And I still think with the implied jackpot thing it's probably close in terms of call or fold (this is what makes it so painful). But without being dramatic this really ****ing hurts man, honestly I feel very bad about it. This jackpot system is so ****ing brutal. I already paid like 50k rake (probably more but not sure) for it this year and got like 3.5k in return. It's such massive variance for year ev and then these troll spots keep happening.

I'm just gonna assume that rabbit hunt thing (the thing where you can see the cards later streets) is completely random and move on with my day....

edit: sorry for emotionally rambling but it was like being punched in the stomach how overwhelmed with emotions I got when I missed out on 120k jackpot. I genuinely thought it was a good fold on the flop in the moment tho so I should just probably man up and go with that......

H2 is really sick dude.

Nothing to do about it? don let it affect ur game. 😀

It's unbelievable mate you folded that BBJ hand omg but who knew it was coming thats so sad

Good point. Pretty annoying they kept the rake exactly the same as 1k, I was hoping they might pick something inbetween 1k and 5k in terms of rake.... I know some of the high rake is jackpot rake but that's just infinite variance.

About average reg being better, you are right. I just wish I had a better understanding of how edges go reg vs reg in a 6handed game (and also in a 3 or 4handed game). This would give a more realistic approach I think. And also in lower stakes give me more confidence an

I think 6handed reg vs reg very hard to generate almost any w/r.

Also fair confident you really can't fold TT with jackpot EV, sorry to rub it in :d

Even the guys I know with relatively huge w/rs in reg only line ups, decreased towards 0 when you filter for 6handed. Most big w/r differentials come from playing vs the fish, and the weak bumhunters that come with the fish in 6h games.

Of course - when you play GG impossible to win pre rb in any battles really, at least from the data I've seen.

You play way less hands in 6h so the winrate will def. be lower, but you'd think that BTN vs BB spot will be same wr 3h or 6h.

ty for the support guys, but yeah in hindsight I think I overreacted with that post. And if it was legit my moment, nothing to be done about it anyway. I'm not gonna bother stressing about it, just nice motivation to keep working hard so things will eventually fall my way anyway and I don't need to worry about that **** jackpot

Also fair confident you really can't fold TT with jackpot EV, sorry to rub it in :d

Next time will make the right decision!

Swingy sess yesterday, played really well all day but also made some mistakes that I thought I kinda stopped making lately.....

Ended up 1 tabling this table at night for like 5 hours or so. Was stuck a bunch but at some point I had some insane rungood (set over set twice in like 5 minutes time, both 300bb+ pot) which turned it around:

(from the legend forhaley) "only death from dehihydration can make me leave it" or in my case get confronted with the clock telling me it's 7am and as a result drown in an ocean of guilt and self-doubt as I realize once again I messed up my sleep schedule (and that there was no more beer left in the fridge) 😃

The session had it all,

blood

Sweat (like 9% equity for 135k jackpot)

And tears

Didn't really know how to respond to this stuff in the chat (this went on for a while and got more hostile, villain is a reg), I know the feeling of pain this game can give you so I understand that everyone deals with it differently. But at the same time, beginning of this year I was once again in a **** situation with only around 10k roll left looking for jobs in my area feeling like a failure after so much disappointment and self-sabotage trying to pursue this poker thing; now while I'm here LET ME ENJOY MY ****ING MOMENT when I'm running good

**** ALL REGS, rub it in their face, I don't give a ****. I stacked a reg KKvQQ at 500 [my shot take stake] while I had sit out next BB on, quickly flicked it off cuz I didn't wanna seem like I was hit and running. Pick up KK two hands later, triple off vs cooler same reg, hits me with the "Thank You" Emote. Literally **** em all, take that money and drink their tears.

(like 9% equity for 135k jackpot)

woops forgot there was only 1 ace left in the deck so a little less equity 😃

Good to see you’re still going, gl and just know people are reading and rooting you on on here.

Btw you can still see the regs name in the second hh bro

Ggz, +54k for the month which is more than double as much as my previous best month so far. I ended it in classic fashion with an absolute superpunt on 2k :/// But overall I ran and played well this month and made great progress 😀 I'm now gonna take a break and will probably start grinding again next weekend. Hopefully by that time the vip games are back so I can lose 75% of my roll playing Linus heads up at nl100k so my mind is at comfort again.... But untill that time I will try to improve a bit and fight the uncomfortable feelings of my mind not allowing success and hapiness

Thanks mate!

I've only played like 7k hands on 2k so it's hard for me to say, I've played in line ups where my expectation was pretty good and I didn't feel like a big underdog or anything like that. But I've also played in line ups where I had no business playing in and probably losing x amount + 7bb rake. I will just keep playing it when I'm feeling sharp and I'm down for some variance but I doubt it's sustainable for me, we'll see!

it's wild that they just take 10 grand from a mf for 7k hands

Someone commented on the screenshot this could have been a table at the nosebleed minus 1 donkreg but I thought that was a bit harsh towards Manuel :P :P
