The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.

Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.

I’m excited to see the owner lower rents when rates drop!

This decision is quite bizarre.

Totally !

Totally !

I thought about this more and I agree with you the tenant should not be punished for the landlord speculating on mortgage rates . Though I find the BC maximum of 3.5% a year a joke as well .

I assume every landlord just automatically raises his rates 3.5% every year

I don't know enough about the details of this particular decision to say whether it makes sense or not, but I am glad to hear there is some allowance for increases beyond a government cap.

We are in a unique situation WRT to housing costs where I can see governments wanting to put measures in place to protect renters. But there are also landlords who treat tenants well that could easily get caught in a bad situation with a cap that low in times of inflation and increasing taxes and interest rates.

We have a condo we bought a few years ago because our daughter was going to school in Victoria and it made more sense than her renting. Since then, we've rented to a couple other people we knew, but now that our current tenant (friend's daughter) is moving home, we're going to sell rather than try to rent in a climate that is quite skewed to tenants' rights. I know of people who have been in terrible situations trying to evict nightmare tenants. There are numerous reasons that we think selling is best for us, but the current regulations are certainly a factor.

That's not to say there shouldn't be any regulation, but there needs to be a balance. Legislating to the extreme cases, or legislating in response to a particular event, often makes for bad laws, and I think some of that is at play here.

We tend to rent out at a little less than market value; substantially less in the case of our last tenant. It's the same way my father always did with his commercial buildings. Rent a little cheaper, and you get a better selection of prospective tenants to choose from, and happier tenants. But that might also mean you tend to be a little slower to jump on increases when the market changes, and it's easy to find yourself getting behind with no way to catch up when there's a cap at or near (or even below) inflation.

LOL Canada!!!

Zonnic pouches are terrible compared to what the states. Pretty sad it's easier to buy alcohol and weed than nicotine pouches in Canada.

Sorry, why is this sad? I'm not quite sure why you think having convenient youth-targeted nicotine access via a legal loophole is a good thing. If you are tragically addicted to nicotine and this product is going to help you quit well great, go to your local pharmacy and get that support, but why do we need berry frost available in the gas station one older-brother-purchasing-it-for-youth away?

One small flavoured pouch — which the user places between their gum and cheek — releases nicotine equivalent to smoking three to four cigarettes. Health Canada says the pouches are intended for someone who smokes more than 25 cigarettes a day and is trying to quit.

Four cigarettes at once level? Ya sorry I'm not sure why it is remotely sad that this isn't maximally accessible.

Kudos to the Libs on handling the rail strike. I applaud the message were not getting involved the two sides need a deal but once labor action was taken they had no choice

Sad that Canada does not allow it when majority of other free countries do. That fact that it had to be done "via a legal loophole" is the problem especially when you can just drive to a reserve and buy ones that aren't legal in Canada. Also sad that you can buy youth-targeted berry flavored vodka drinks but not nicotine pouches.

I enjoy a nice cigar on occasion, chewed tabbacco (old hockey habit) for about 10 years then quit 11 years ago. Last year started enjoying nicotine pouches to relax while golfing or working. I buy mine from an online native website though

Of course you equate nicotine to cigarettes, probably believe a cigar is just a big cigarette too. I wonder how many cigarettes I smoke when I have a 20mg pouch.

Is against having nicotine pouches but chop the breasts off a healthy woman? You got Uke's full support.

I agree with Uke on this one and the commie regime of Justin Trudeau 😀

They didn't disallow it. They restricted the places it could be sold so it isn't quite so effortlessly easy to get at gas stations etc that are relatively easy for youth to abuse. You also can't buy flavoured vapes at gas stations, again very reasonable restriction.

I'm sorry to hear about your life long addiction challenges. Hopefully the youth don't become similarly addicted!

But didn't restrict the sale of flavored alcohol and you can still buy tobacco products, maybe they should also be sold on pharmacies.

No addictions, just things I enjoy. I don't drink alcohol or do drugs, run 25-30 miles a week and have a RHR in the low 40's. How's your health?

Just calling you out on your hypocrisy. You endorse government restrictions claiming "just think of the children!!" but are perfectly fine butchering children without scientific consensus.

Kind of got a valid point

Great opinion piece how Canada needs a Pelosi to get rid of a Trudeau. Luckily the Dems knew how bad it would be with Joe yet the Liberals are in a worse position with Justin

You regularly consume nicotine over decades and don't think you have an addiction?

Nicotine is a drug, buddy. If you want to brag, I actually don't drink or do drugs, play squash or cross train 6 days a week, and other than the whole had cancer bit am in pretty excellent health. But why - exactly - does that matter?

Remember when Harper's poll numbers were in the gutter and it was obvious he was going to lose to Trudeau? Did you call on him to step aside then? What about in the UK when it was obvious the tories were going to lose to labour?

I don't think some last ditch leadership swap-up changes more than about 3% of the voting intentions of people in this country. Trudeau should go down with his ship imo.

Doesn’t mean Trudeau should make the same mistake .
Actually he should learn from it ….

Fwiw I believe your 3% is incredibly low .

I never voted for Harper than and yeah I did want him to step down. I didn't vote for him the election before that and you forget I voted for Trudeau that time as I thought he was going to be different

That is what the article states as well that parties are more loyal here unlike in the USA as soon as it was given Joe was going to lose the knives came out

I have an open mind and always open to reconsider my position unlike many here .

I find much of the trans issues as total garbage that takes away from the rare individual that struggles with their gender .

As well any doctor that performs gender affair surgery on a minor should lose their license and be jailed
