In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.
The president can’t make appropriations to hire more agents and asylum judges without the consent of congress. Also you are completely full of crap about the Ukraine spending, that was split into a different bills and still passed. Can you at least make an effort to live in reality?
The president (through the DHS) can stop giving TPS to anyone.
The president could have kept the "remain in Mexico" policy.
The president could have denied the right to ask for asylum to the totality of people who enter illegally. He chose to do so only for a small portion of them only in june 2024. It could have been all of them all the time.
All the above not only don't require appropriations, and it doesn't require congress, but it saves money.

The $118bn bipartisan bill would have granted the president a new power to shut down the border when daily crossings pass a certain limit while also expediting the asylum review process, which could have led to quicker deportation for many migrants. The bill would have provided $60bn in military assistance for Ukraine, $14bn in security assistance for Israel and $10bn in humanitarian assistance for civilians affected by wars in Ukraine, and Gaza and the West Bank.

Maybe one day you'll realize this administration doesn't care about you. For example, a TFR was sent up at the destruction zone and a civilian helicopter pilot was just threatened to be arrested. He was searching for and rescuing flood victims (not the one in the link below, another one). What's the purpose of the TFR? They were flying drones over the area to locate flood victims but Pete Buttigieg announced restrictions of private drones. The problem is, however, there aren't any gov't drones or helicopters involved in rescue missions so why close the airspace? What's currently taking place there is a travesty to our country and is much bigger than the fake news media is portraying.

I mentioned the hurricane because there's no more money left in FEMA to help the victims (not that FEMA is our friend or anything) because they spent their money helping all the immigrants all across the country.

Over 150 billioin dollars was sent out to Ukraine but FEMA's yearly budget is only about a billion, and now there's nothing left for us. That's our tax money, it's not Ukraine's money. I can't understand how some people are ok with this just because they hate the man who's been fighting against this global entity (literally with his life) to free us from them. Most of us can see this (which is why the Republican party is the party of common sense).
