The "LOLCANADA" thread...again
So what's new?
I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet...i'd be shocked if they lost the election now.
Just shows just how incompetent Conservatives are.
I am quite disappointed with the conservatives housing plan. but I don't think any of the party's are doing enough. Let the boomers bleed who cares
I actually find Pierre's newest platform to finally be a platform (and not a bad one!). Just so late in the game.
The great irony to me is that if he had run on this and a more positive campaign from the start, he'd be the next PM. This will be their own miss.
Wow Carney sticking with a candidate that encouraged people to turn over the conservative candidate to the Chinese government to collect a bounty
Pretty sad

lol lozen cares about off-colour jokes all of a sudden? Sorry boy called wolf a few too many times on this one to take your faux-outrage seriously
Mark Carney promises to build 500,000 new affordable homes . How ? No Plan
What's next 2 family doctors for everyone
Its like planting a billion trees promise
Uh, he released a bunch of details. Did you just miss them?
But yes thank you for your new found skepticism that seems to only apply on one side and maximum credit and belief and trust on the other. Weird dynamic.
and the less environment friendly part is a must right now even tho that will make you sad. we are in a trade war with a country that does not care about it at all. So we can't be all high and mighty about saving the planet when we have to first save ourselves. pipelines must be built regulations must not increase
This is very badly framed .
I know you know but the planet isn’t in need of saving .
It will still be here even if we would drop hundred of nuclear bomb on it.
We actually trying to save ourself already , as in food chain, Place to live where it inst 45degrees , less climate disaster occurring, etc.
I think these kind of posts over-state what exactly the driving issues are. It’s easy to pick a measure that is bad (ignoring those that are good) and say well so-and-so was in power then so it’s “insane” to support them again. But government has less influence over major macroeconomic trends than one would think. Like covid dominates most graphs, for instance. Even setting covid aside, things like the housing crisis are big, multi-factor issues experienced in many first
I’m curious how many countries are in better shape and how many countries did actually fair well in the last 5 years …. Beside the US ?
There must a ton of them if Canada did so bad .
Ps: I sincerely didn’t check and I’m not really Interested too because I would be extremely surprise there is many beside the U.S. .
I might be wrong so I’m curious what’s makes you think so .

And Pierre promise lowering tax even more then carney while saying nothing how to pay for it …
Ah yes , probably going to hire musk afterwards for it .
Same strategy of trump ….
What I was outlining in my first post on this. That much of rest of Canada thinks Quebec has more leverage than they should, and from the outside looking in Quebec seems to want many things both ways. See my first post on this.
If you feel some of the perceptions are unwarranted I respect that.
I am an Albertan and understand that many other provinces think that we are too demanding. That we should always want what is only good for us because we have lots of oil and natural gas and that Liberals
Fair enough .
I’m just saying factually fiscally , saying Alberta paying through its natural resources for Quebec welfare is wrong and there many provinces that receive far more then Quebec per capita .
Yes the perception is extremely false but that is the motto of our era .
At least it is not as bad as our “friendly” neighbor yet .
Quebec being badly perceived by the west since the west been created .
So no surprise there .

Yeah Canada is going to become a developer and build homes. Im so confident that the government will magically find all these contractors and be more efficient than the private sector
Carney's housing plan is basically exactly what I wanted re: housing.
I probably would have kicked Chiang out though tbh, that seems like a weird decision.

Sounds like you didn't read that details. The supply side was not keeping up and the federal government only has so many options in the housing space. Basically every country in the world has had a time where the government has had to do a massive injection into supply side like this.

What are they going to supply ? Free land ?
mostly money into manufacturing and capital to home builders as well as forcing a regulatory streamline with pressure on the lower forms of government.
I'm sure some land will be in the mix but the main thing is to inject capital on to the supply side and to even out the demand curve by being a large, predictable customer themselves.
i for one had no idea the conservative were SO into cancel culture
Poor PC and pierre .
Paul Chiang Just decide to retire .
Guess they will lose another week to find a new target to hate upon.

You think this was his decision? The left wing media in Canada was making this a story as well . I guarantee you he was told retire or your gone Sorry you really shouldn’t call for your supporters to kidnap the opposition candidate and turn him over to the Chinese embassy were he will be tortured and killed
Personally I thought his apology was sincere and we should move on but this is politics and if the reverse happened the liberals would be crying as well
Another candidate bites the dust:
A CTV report this week unearthed a 2022 podcast during which McKenzie expressed support for public hangings and jokingly suggested then-prime minister Justin Trudeau should receive the death penalty.
A Conservative party spokesperson said the comments were “clearly unacceptable.”
McKenzie, a local city councillor and former radio personality, was no longer listed as a candidate on the Conservative’s campaign website as of this morning.
So here's my take on housing. We've seen basically 3 decades of market failure here. It's grown more acute in the last decade, but the federal government has been fairly hands off housing and we just don't have nearly enough housing based on demand. And then more recently the federal government is basically offering carrots or sticks to try and get things like municipal laws changed...but starts are down the worse things have gotten. Poilievre's plan is to basically minor tweaks to tax structure and sticks to municipalities. So Carney's plan is actually extremely ambitious. It's for the government to actually take a significantly more direct role in public-private partnerships to build houses. So instead of a "remove gst on new homes and let the market figure out whatever it does", it's more like "we are going to help build these homes here". This seems....directionally correct. Of course execution is hard and will be the ultimate measure of this. But that we should be directly building more houses in partnership with the private sector seems like it might be what is needed. Or maybe I'll put it this way, I think Poilievbre's plan doesn't do much just tweaks the margin and the problems largely remain as they are now. I don't know if Carney's plan works, but it has the higher upside I think (and I think higher downside in costing a lot of money for not much gain).
Lol at poilievre still trying to beat the dead horse pretending that Carney is going to bring back the consumer carbon tax after he is elected. Dude, move on already! The conspiracy theories aren't helping you!

Yeah I agree he probably was , they permitted him to save face , so what ?
My point still stand .
PC lost a target , poor them .

He can’t , what else would he talk about ?
Concrete Policies ?
Economic vs carney ?
lol …
I know there is lots of frustration going on now with Trump, but the issue that tilts me the most is that he keeps whining about a trade deficit with Canada.
On every damn level you can think of it has to be the stupidest argument.
Instead, The US should be happy that they have a trading partner that is (1) geographically close, (2) has the resources they need, and (3) sells you stuff cheaper than you can get it elsewhere (because if you can get it cheaper elsewhere and are not buying it elsewhere, you are dumber than a 7 year-old with a fist-full of candy money).
Even after considering the above, if the trade deficit with Canada bugs Trump so much, then the US should stop buying stuff from Canada until it has a trade surplus with Canada. Then the US will have won. Yippee.
Then let the markets and your voters tell you what they think of your victory?
Anyway, Trump launches the wrecking ball tomorrow, and probably still has not figured out that no matter which direction he swings that ball, it comes swinging back.
It's also
a) way smaller than trump quotes
b) way way smaller than trump quotes if you ignore oil
c) ignores services where US has the surplus
