The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

I was going to save this for a while after listing 10 or say "conservative" things they did well. But because that whole frasier institute thing was cited again, I gotta give that old spiel on the "liberal" side. In the first trudeau mandate there was a triangle trade. I've done this years ago ITT, but it's good for a refresher: three things happened at once
1) Income tax brackets reduced
2) Exemptions removed, notably some parental friendly ones
3) expansion and simplification of CCB.

So basically, for families, the combination is a net positive. But if you exclude 3 - as the frasier institute, a conservative "think" tank did, and refuse to see it as a trade off of losing some tax exemptions but gaining expanded CCB and income tax, then you can conclude a reduction. However 3 was actually massive, and of all the things the liberals did, this policy lifted a lot of young families out of poverty. There is more on that front like 10 dollar a day daycare etc, but those are "spending" things.

I mean this was all litigated back in 2019 when Canada gave the Liberals their 2nd of 4th consecutive mandates.

ooooh this is a good cross tab. Conservatives like shifty like to pretend the only reason Carney won was trump. Except, you can remove trump and the libs are still super popular majority territory:

How would you vote in a federal election if Donald Trump was no longer US President and a Democrat was President?

LPC 44%
CPC 36%
NDP 8%
BQ 6%
Others 6%

90% of decided Canadians would vote for the same party they told me they would earlier in our core vote question.

90% of LPC voters would stick with the LPC.

boomers with trump derangement syndrome wont admit they have trump derangement syndrome. useless poll

like polls can be pretty accurate in the now. but ive never seen any data suggesting they can predict the future. when you start polling hypotheticals. Sure they may think they would feel that way. but they won't actually feel that way with any certainty. We have actual current polls at the time saying the conservatives were going to win by a landslide untill trump attacked canada. With trump gone theirs no reason to believe it wouldn't return with a mid to bad government cycle as the libs usually pull out. Hopefully it wont become like the regards in ontario who just vote based on whos the prime minister. Also the people who were most easily convinced to go liberal because of trump are the elderly. A lot of them won't even be alive lmao

I'd say "until trump attacked Canada AND Carney was put forward". Certainly this was a top issue among the electorate as per poling at that time and Carney came out about Poilievre in his perception of handling this issue.

You're point about limitations of polls is granted, often people's revealed preferences and their stated preferences are different, but I think conservatives make a mistake when they think Carney's appeal is largely in relation to Trump, and this poll is absolutely evidence that when you directly ask people who they vote for if a democrat was in charge they still say Carney.

Folks were tired of Trudeau's policies and him overall than you add in Trump and I think Pierre was still a top choice as affordability was the question and Pierre was going to axe the tax . Than Carney got smart and adopted Pierre's policies and than many CDN's looked at his experience over Pierre's and said OK lets give him a chance . I had a few friends that considered voting for him but said the Liberals need to be punished.

You are a liberal loyalist and remind me of the California governors race were they had a debate and they asked a question How do you grade Gavin Newsom's handling of the homeless crises and even though he spent 24 billion and homelessness increased the Dem candidates gave him an "A"

So Uke what grade would you give Justin Trudeaus time in office?

Folks were tired of Trudeau's policies

This really isn't true. Most of the big policy changes are well supported by the population. People like CCB, they liked 10 dollar a day daycare, they liked expanding pharamcare, they like dental care, and broadly speaking they liked doing things for the environment. Most liberal policies polled well - it's a bit like how Obamacare polled well even when Trump won. It's true that in the midst of a global inflation crisis largely unrelated to the carbon tax Poilievre did a great job of lying about the carbon tax and on that one policy the public really soured. And it's true that lots of things are challenging in the economy (housing, homelessness, cost of living, etc) and of course when you have a deeply unpopular leader there is a tendency for that to rub off on the policies of that leader in public opinion. But by and large, I think this was MUCH more a rejection of Trudeau personally than a rejection of the Trudeau policy suite.

I think Pierre was still a top choice as affordability

This is such a good example. Pierre had almost nothing in his platform on affordability. He liked to pretend that cancelling the climate rebate checks would put more money in people's pockets, but even in best case scenarios almost nothing he proposed would make any serious dent on affordability.

You've asked me this dozens of times. I keep saying something like a B-. I'm not quite sure why you keep asking it. Like is it that you forget that you've asked it?

And OH LOOK we are relitigate Trudeau once again. My god you people just won't give it at rest. Like you're all so obsessed with pushing this narrative about me and Trudeau, but in truth I'm mostly just responding to your endlessly anti-Trudeau hatred even well over a year after he is gone now.

Its the first time you answered the question and sadly Trudeau's policies and the negative effects will carry on for generations

I think we understand Carney is a new face and in a honeymoon period. but I think he needs to do a lot of work in a small amount of time at some point that will fade and they will associate it more with the liberal party then carny which was polling very poorly

Its the first time you answered the question

Why do you lie like this? Like do you just genuinely not remember your own posting history and what has and has not been talked about? This bizarroworld where you conclude I haven't answered a question we've done multiple rounds of discussion on for like years is just weird.

No you havent answered the question about Trudeau.

Stop lying. You've asked me repeatedly to give a "grade" to Trudeau, your sick obsession. I've done that repeatedly. For multiple years.

Yes, two weeks ago once again you asked me the same question you've asked and I've answered repeatedly. I chose to respond to something else. You then went on a bit that I was intellectually dishonest because I was ignoring your questions and Pablito got all excited joining in. Except, I have answered it. Repeatedly. You're either lying or you can't remember basic **** we've talked about repeatedly.

So Carney is going to borrow 25 billion dollars to start a Wealth Sovereign Fund . Does he not realize countries or states do this when they have a surplus not a massive deficit

Elbows up! I'm sure it's because his world tour went so well and countries/companies are lining up to invest in Canada and not the USA. New world order am I right?

You are.

At some point you're going to have to accept that even Carney can bring forward ideas that could work out and this is one of them. Not all debt is bad debt.

I just don't see why people are upset about a 25b fund that has investments in Canada as its core goal.

I don't think you should continue to boast your support of the USA. It's going about as poorly as was expected by most.

Take a moment to think about Carney's resume, and the strength of his economic knowledge. Do you really believe that the issue is he doesn't "realize" this super simple basic fact you came up with?

I have no idea if this fund is going to be helpful or just be a nothingburger. It's hard to make impacts, even when your Carney, so if it's a nothingburger so be it. But this conservative take of like guffaw lolololol he's so stupid he doesn't realize canada has a deficit lololol line is just pathetic.

Were did I call him Stupid ? I question the decision as a CDN. Its like setting up a margin account to trade stocks yet your credit cards are maxed out .
The details are slim so will see what it turns into.

God forbid I question liberal spending

Exactly, why speculate now?

by Pablito

Exactly, why speculate now?

Because its politics? All people do is speculate.

It's does sum up Canada though, back room deals to get floor crossings to form a majority government then announce a 25 Billion $ fund that nobody should question or talk about because we just don't know the details yet.

Loved Carneys announcement on trades
We need more skilled trades

by lozen

Were did I call him Stupid ?

Here:

Does he not realize countries or states do this when they have a surplus not a massive deficit

When you say "does he not realize" followed by just a really super low level basic economic point that OF COURSE Carney is 100% aware of, this is just you stupidly trying to call him stupid.

so how did he fund this fund? take out more debt?

by MoViN.tArGeT

so how did he fund this fund? take out more debt?

The government will be putting it on their Capital One Card . (financing it )
