In other news
In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.
so you mean that democrats should never be allowed to pass a law that takes weapons away from people even if it was constitutional, because weapon owners vote republican more than the rest of the population? so it's illegitimate to compaigb for something, and then use power if elected to achieve it, that damages republicans more than democrats, as a democrat? are you serious?
the only way to interpret the data is, there were outstanding grants that benefited democrats and not the general populati
Guns is an interesting example because trump is actively more antagonistic to guns than any democrat I am aware of
Its also interesting because we have about 30 school shootings a year and I've been told here that sterilizing one single child is beyond the pale
Even if you concede that every single contract was DEI focused, which would be absurd, its wrong to say those policies only benefit democrats. We know for a fact that they cut research contracts and grants that were focused on cancer in children
The point is that the graphs demonstrably show that in the previous term grants and contracts were divided largely evenly across the country as a whole, regardless of political alignment, whereas what DOGE is reporting to have cut is very heavily skewed towards Dem leaning areas. You can argue that it's an acceptable thing for government to take measures that overwhelmingly punish regions that voted against it but you can't argue that it's just reversing prior biases because the data shows that'
Yeah, and the only real caveat to this data is that its reported, which means there is a small chance that they are only reporting cuts that appear biased and are actually being more balanced across the lines.
That seems relatively unlikely, but certainly not impossible

yes because previously, it was a bipartisan graft. same as USAID money going to some "old school" republican NGOs to a great deal.
and the bipartisan graft saw the republican base utterly raped, RINOs are in bed with democrats and have been since after Bush.
see "Lincoln project" and the like.
I argue that is the enemy and the grifter and the source of a lot of wasteful spending, the "Washington consensus" on how to rape American taxpayers in some sense.
it has been decades the establishment is deeply inimical to actual Americans and spends taxpayer resources to further cement it's power and it's clientelar base.
trump is slowly starting to redress that and ofc that is going to trigger all red flags among the vast multitudes who benefited from the grift

not sure why you find this interesting or comparable . the shooters aren't allowed legally to shoots the sterilizing was legal and paid by taxpayers or other legally insured people (!!!!!!!). And should completly stop, because that's something the state can actually ban entirelt, unlike the shootings.
then ofc a few minors could still get sterilized in illegal clinics or by criminal physicians but at least you did what the state could which is to make it illegal as it should be.
shooting in schools to kill children or teachers is already illegal afaik, so what is the comparison?
I am not saying it was all DEI. I am saying it was almost all leftist graft. there isn't only DEI. there is bullshit climate stuff as well.

That doesn't follow logically though. If it's a bipartisan grift against taxpayers then Dem areas are vastly larger contributers to tax revenue than Rep areas so how was it the Rep base being so disproportionately hurt? That's especially inexplicible when all stats show that the "kickbacks" as you initially deemed them are actually heavily weighted towards targetting Rep leaning areas when compared to the tax revenue collected from these areas.
The general concept that there is a huge amount of grifting going on and money in politics is massively corrupt I can absolutely get behind. What doesn't make logical sense is how this is some justifiable revenge against Dem areas.

Well, guns are an entertainment / luxury item that kill about 45,000 people per year and I've provided you statistics on gender affirming care that show that less than 100 people under the age of 18 are filing insurance claims for gender affirming care per year, but yeah when I look at that you are right its totally incomparable
The algo baiting thumbnails may be off putting but the content is well spoken and well sourced

Guns don't kill people, people do. And that's already an illegal action.
And it is (was?) people sterilizing and mutilating minors legally.
Making illegal something you think should be illegal which is currently legale Is not comparable to having something illegal happening and not being able to reduce that further.
You would be right if using guns to kill other people was currently legal for most of those 45k cases which it isn't.
Btw it wasn't 100 per year I provided stats for much higher amounts.

Not sure why you think bold is true but it isn't.
Some republican areas get more federal money but that's linked to social security/ medicare not on targeted grants which overwhelmingly help democrat areas.

The graph shows what most people would logically think
Republican counties get significantly more amounts of grants (free money)
Democrat counties get significantly more contracts (work)
This is indicated by the skew of the grey to the right of the grants image on the bottom graph and the grey to the left of the contracts image on the bottom graph
The greatest DOGE ad you’ll ever see.
Jon Stewart finding out how the Biden Administration spent $42 Billion to expand broadband to more Americans, and connected ZERO (0) homes in 4 years.
Remind me again where the detailed, documented breakdown of fraud and waste they've found is posted.
I think the idea is that if a doge-equivalent entity had existed at the time, they wouldn't have been able to waste 42 billions without achieving anything at all, they woul dhave been stopped far sooner after the first "few billions" showing no actual results (and presumable a lot of fraud as well).
I don't think this is particularly weird of a claim
So weird going to bat for a 42 billion dollar program with no results.
Partisan brain rot is a serious affiliation.
Wat?
I'm not going to bat for that at all.
Maybe a little whataboutism on my part but my point is that DOGE has done literally nothing but **** on everybody. The broadband stuff is a different issue.
I think pretty much every non-trumper here acknowledges there's a ton of waste in the federal government and should be addressed. But DOGE doesn't do that.

it truly is astounding how not only do they put on the blinders but also attribute having issues with wasting 42 billion on nothing as being stemmed from malice
i am an active here and somewhat active on a fishing forum
on the fishing forum it's the same thing, but unlike this place which is 80% luc's favorite boogeymen, the fishing place is the opposite
i make the same exact statements and arguments on both sites, the fishing people think i'm a biden loving liberal, the poker guys call me a trump supporter - it's truly amazing to behold
Shadow, like watch dog
Like, I'm your boss and I'm going to shadow you because you've proven to lie about the work you are getting done, the time you are spending in the office, you are stealing supplies, and drinking from Barbara's jug off Kombucha and I want recorded reason to fire you

Whats astounding is you guys think that 42 billion just disappeared
It hasn't been spent. Its allocated and the red tape is holding it up.
Its clearly a failure of administration and policy but you morons aren't even spending 5 minutes to read an article before you act like Democrats stole 42 billion dollars
