In other news
In the current news climate we see that some figures and events tend to dominate the front-pages heavily. Still, there are important, interesting or just plain weird things happening out there and a group of people can find these better than one.
I thought I would test with a thread for linking general news articles about "other news" and discussion. Perhaps it goes into the abyss that is page 2 and beyond, but it is worth a try.
Some guidelines:
- Try to find the "clean link", so that links to the news site directly and not a social media site. Avoid "amp-links" (google).
- Write some cliff notes on what it is about, especially if it is a video.
- It's not an excuse to make outlandish claims via proxy or link extremist content.
- If it's an editorial or opinion piece, it is polite to mark it as such.
- Note the language if it is not in English.
- There is no demand that such things be posted here, if you think a piece merits its own thread, then make one.
I was born in 1988 and still have 88 in one of the emails I use. Fortunately I am not a white supremacist so no one has ever called me out on it. Funny how that works.
88 is numerical code for Heil Hitler, H being the eight letter of the alphabet. 88 is a well known neo nazi code, so maybe that's what Jal thought you meant, not without merit, in fairness, due to it being generally well known, even if you didn't personally mean this. I don't know the 112 reference. 12 is used by the Aryan Brotherhood but again I never heard of 112.
112 is irrelevant. It’s the same distance from the nominal IQ mean as 88, that’s all.
You mean 14?
Don't think that they don't know what "88" is in Italy. The Italian Football Federation banned the number because if its association with neo-Nazis.
the double standards will continue
Ironically I completed our yearly CUI refresher last week
On good thing to come from this. I haven't found much to laugh about in this administration. It seems mostly like a bunch of incompetent a******s going out of their way to make things worse.
But the quote from the current United States Secretary of Defense stating "We are currently clean on OPSEC” while texting emojis in an unlawful groupchat on a non-sanctioned messaging app, likely installed on a non-secure phone, while discussing classified military strikes in front of a mistakenly included a reporter is laugh out loud funny.
I mean, it is incompetent to the extreme and raises a lot of important questions which will likely be ignored... but that quote is still hilarious. It is t-shirt material.

But that is how government works . Top Level individuals do not have to observe the rules that the rank and file do. The rank and file and have been told that if you use the Signal app in your daily job your done
Sadly that applies to both administrations
Your naive if you think Pete losses his job over this

No, this isn't an example of government working, it is an example of government not working.
I suggest that you read the posts you reply to.

Agreed and yet both administrations do it and the other one is outraged as well as the media aligned with that party
And yes you did say nothing will happen to Pete or anyone else
Yeah it’s pretty funny and fits into all the stereotypes people have about guys like Vance, Hegseth etc being affirmative action incompetents. We’ve had congressional hearings over far less in terms of data security especially with some in Vance’s spot in there who likely will run for president. Was this a one off or is he often involved with data breeches? Probably won’t find out partly because we all assumed these guys don’t know what they’re doing going in.

Incompetent, obviously. Where are you getting affirmative action?

WASHINGTON − In a 2016 appearance on Fox News, the future defense secretary Pete Hegseth repeatedly criticized presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for using a private server for her work as the Obama administration’s secretary of state.
“If it was anyone other than Hillary Clinton, they would be in jail right now,” Hegseth said.
As a Fox News on-air analyst, Hegseth made a lot of comments that year as Clinton's use of a private server became a Republican campaign issue, stirred up a public controversy and sparked an FBI investigation: “Any security professional, military, government or otherwise, would be fired on the spot for this type of conduct and criminally prosecuted for being so reckless with this kind of information,” Hegseth said.

For him it is .
Binary thinking .
Breaking the law is breaking the law .
He showed it many times in other legal issues previously.
Probably why it’s so easy for him to link “whataboutism” to almost anything.
Its so tiresome
What kind of legal system just lets you say "I don't recall" in a congressional hearing?
Surely the chat transcript is available?
The whole Republican platform is just gaslighting.
